In March-April 1984 the next 911 Carrera was internally designated as project 964, the 964 project didn’t look so different from the previous G-model 911 however it was literally a new car. Visually the redesigned new items were the bumpers, side sills, rear lamp panel and rear spoiler –the design work of Benjamin Dimson. He was the lead exterior designer of the 944 Turbo, 928 S4, 959, 911 Speedster and 911 964. Porsche unveiled the 964 photos in July 1988, presented the car in autumn in Paris Mondial de l’Automobile Paris Motor Show, September 28, 1988. The Porsche 911 Carrera 964 series were produced from 1989 to 1993 model years.
The first 964 was released in 1989 and was equipped with an all-wheel drive the “Carrera 4” “C4”, later on in 1990 Porsche added the rear wheel drive Carrera 2 “C2” variant.
Both variants were available as a coupe, Targa or Cabriolet. The 964 Carrera was the last generation sold with the traditional removable Targa roof until the 2011 991.
The C2 was almost identical in specification to the C4. However the lack of the 4-wheel drive system meant the C2 was 100 kg lighter than the C4 and handled differently.
C2 was intended for those Porsche fanatics seeking loose control and the C4 was more of a precision driving machine at that time. Ultimately it was different horses for different courses.
The 964 was the first generation 911 to be offered with Porsche’s optional Tiptronic automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as options.
Our 964 is a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 equipped with a 3.6L engine with a modified exhaust producing 300 horsepower.
This car is special to me it took me 5 years to fully restore it and all parts are Porsche genuine items
