Unprecedented luxury onboard the Rolls Royce Phantom 2018

On every occasion and at every new release by the British Manufacturer Rolls-Royce, the same eternal question pops up: Do you think that Rolls-Royce Luxury vehicles are made to be self-driven or Chauffeur Driven?

So we took advantage of our presence in the United Arab Emirates, specifically in Dubai, to answer once and for all this eternal question.

Rolls Royce Phantom Luxury Cars Test Drive Arab Motor World (1)

Landing in Dubai for a short 8-hour trip and as a first timer in the city of dreams, I wanted to indulge myself in luxury and elegance but I didn’t know where to start. I initiated a call to my colleague Nabil and asked him to prepare a fast tour around the main landmarks of Dubai.

Stepping out of the hotel, I was immediately stunned with Super Cars and Luxury Cars gathered at the Hotel entrance, however, only one magnificent palatial mansion gleaming in front of my eyes in English white and elegant Tuscan Sun colors captured my attention. It was the 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom the icon of pure elegance and luxury.

Admiring this British Masterpiece moving slowly towards my direction, time froze for a moment as the handsome driver stepped out of the vehicle and gently with a hand gesture invited me in as he opens the doors with a poise. I was transported immediately to the Cinderella Fairytale waiting to step into her carriage for that unforgettable experience.

As the magical moment slips out, I just realized that the Rolls Royce Driver was none other than my colleague Nabil fulfilling his pledge to take me for an unforgettable drive around Dubai filled with Elegance and Luxury. Let the Journey begins.

The rear seat view in the Rolls Royce Phantom was beyond imagination, a fantastic experience that stimulates senses in every aspect. The comfort of the seats along with the luxury materials used from leather with tan and arctic white colors, Paldao veneer and other refined tissues simulate and even exceed any First-Class services. The 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom is luxury at its best.

Having said that, the Rolls Royce Phantom is designed to be the perfect luxury station for any businessmen or women as it comes heavily loaded with connectivity and controls guaranteed to save time and provide the perfect setup to conduct business efficiently.

For successful people, Business and leisure are a must to maintain creativity and excellence in life, the Rolls Royce Phantom is no stranger to that concept as the same connectivity and controls used for business can be implemented in leisure for an extraordinary entertaining experience. The Veneered Picnic Tables along with the folding screens and the astonishing controls of the full vehicle including the entertainment system provide you with a chance to unwind and relax in the rear seats in elegance and style. Taking it a step further, massage seats and reclining seating configuration as you admire the starlight headliner and rest your head on those RR Monogram hand-stitched on all Headrests after that long working day surely exceeds any 5-Star SPA experience.

Pampered in luxury onboard the Rolls Royce Phantom moving from one landmark to another around the busy streets of Dubai, I was intrigued to learn more about the other side of this luxurious mansion “The Driving Experience”. I turned to my colleague Nabil for that different point of view since he took the role of chauffeuring me for these few hours (in my opinion he didn’t seem to mind doing so, I mean he was driving a Rolls Royce Phantom).

The feedback from the cockpit was instant, the smile on his face says it all. The same look and feel of the rear seats are clearly reflected on the front seats as well. The luxury and elegance is laid out in every single detail of the Rolls Royce Phantom 2018 from Art Gallery to the famous Rolls Royce bespoke Watch…, I mean you can literally place your favorite painting or even diamond or Swarovski on the dashboard, our Phantom came with the Regatta Sails in Arctic White Gallery.

As for the driving sensation, the British chef d’oeuvre floats on the roads even on bumpy ones providing ultimate comfort for the driver as well as the passengers. the Rolls Royce comes fully loaded with countless driving assistance, safety and control systems guaranteeing a stress feel and enjoyable drive even on long trips. What captured Nabil’s attention was the newly developed suspension system for that extra comfort and the eight-speed ZF satellite connected gearbox. And Yes he affirmed: “Satellite connected gearbox” that actually receives information via satellite connectivity about the various types and elevation of terrains and automatically adjusts the torque and acceleration to eliminate any chance of discomfort during the journey.

“Now imagine the engine on the Rolls-Royce Phantom”, he added: “We are talking about a V 12-cylinder engine with a capacity of 6.75 liters Twin-Turbo Charged capable of generating 563 horsepower and a torque of 900 N/m @1700 RPM, the sound of that engine must be extremely loud”. In reality, I personally couldn’t hear the engine sound not even any road noise despite that the streets were busy and traffic surrounded us from every angle. Once more Nabil’s input cleared out the picture, the 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom has the best in class road noise reduction with improved glass isolation, 9 layers of paint and even specially designed tires filled with foam eliminating any chance of undesired noise trying to squeeze into the Phantom and disturbing your unwinding.

Lots of attention to details and features are built into this elegant palace, makes it really hard to answer that eternal question posed since the first Phantom was created in 1925.

So will you drive your Rolls Royce Phantom or have it chauffeur driven?

Driving the most beautiful car in the world “Velar”

VELAR

Back in November 2017, and while cruising the Dubai Motor Show my eyes fell on the most beautiful creation ever made, it was love at first sight.

Her body is sculptured with perfection, smoothness and exactly how you imagine it will be. If I wanted to create the perfect creature this is how I would have done it. A charismatic appearance, athletic silhouette, just enough rounded curves to make it attractive without overdoing it, the perfect shape with a magnetic rear that you literally cannot take your eyes off it.

So I came closer to her and ask about her name as she stood gracefully like a princess waiting for her prince charming for that first dance. The name by itself is glamorous and attractive it made me want to know her more. Let me stop here before my wife thinks I’m wooing one of the hostesses at the show. I was truly in love with the “Velar”.

Backing things up a bit, the Velar has one of the best designs in the world and has won several awards in that direction. Our Velar was coloured in one the most elegant colours a Flux Grey with Black Contrast roof and came with a burnished Copper Bumper accents, Range Roger badge on bonnets Vents with side vents, tailgate script for that extra sportiness. On top of that, it was equipped with a Matrix Laser LED headlights with Signature Daytime Running lights and coped with a 22” 9 Split-Spoke Style 9007 Diamond Turned finished. The Velar looks was out of this world.

Fast forward to our test drive, I took hold of the Velar keys and I was ready to drive this astonishing machine. The best part is when you click on the keys to open the door, the shaved handles pop out of the doors, I mean I did that phenomenon several times just to see how it opens and closes. The question is would you buy a car just for its handles? Well, I will.

Inside the cabin, it was a whole different story. Luxury, comfort and technology are what defines the interior of the Velar. The combination of colours of Nimbus/Ebony with Windsor leather and piano black with satin chrome defines the elegance within the Velar. The steering wheel by itself is a design prodigy with Satin Chrome gear shift pedals to enhance the sportier feel. Technology is purely defined by a 12.3” Interactive Driver Display and the Pro Duo touchscreen 10” high definition is the language of the future.

The Velar R-Dynamic came loaded with features that will make your life easier in every way such as enhanced navigation, infotainment and connectivity capabilities, Acoustic Laminated Windscreen, Solar Attenuating Glass, Infrared Absorbing Windscreen, 20-way heated and cooled memory, massage front seats with heated rear seats, Power Recline Rear seat, Split Armrest, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, illuminated metal front tread plates with R-Dynamic branding, Foot Pedal-metal Finish, Tailgate/boot lid-powered with Hands Free and most importantly for the best entertaining journey ever the Meridian Signature Sound System with 23 speakers including Subwoofer 1500 w output.

This SUV is not just a beautiful vehicle. It has comfort, future capabilities and most importantly driving capabilities that will surely surprise any car connoisseur. To prove its Off-roading and driving capabilities, we have decided to take the Velar on a desert Off-roading trip but with an aching heart, I mean why would you take such a beautiful sporty machine made to impress on tarmac roads out in the desert. So why we did it because we can and it can.

On sandy roads, the Velar performed incredibly. The 3.0-Liter V6 Supercharged engine coped with an 8-speed Automatic Transmission generating 357 HP was more than we needed to get through the sandy dunes of Dubai’s desert. Armed with the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) – Terrain Response 2-, Twin-Speed Transfer Box (High/Low Range) and Active Rear Locking Differential nothing was capable of stopping us. Sand was flying from all sides and the Velar was moving sideways as we turned off the Electronic Traction Control (ETC). it was drifting and dune bashing with elegance.

Our trip on the sand was over and it was time to hit the tarmac again. Adrenaline pumping and closed roads are a superb combination, so we floored down the pedal and we were in for a surprise. I mean the Velar can do 0-100 Km/h in just 5.7 seconds very impressive for an SUV in its class. After the rush, we reached the highway heading towards the hotel and we were exhausted. Throughout the journey, the Velar basically drove itself and even facilitated the parking process since it comes loaded with driving assistance and safety systems exceeding any expectations set out for this SUV. The Velar comes equipped with Torque Vectoring by Braking, Dynamic Response, Adaptive Dynamic Low traction launch Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), Anti-Locking Braking System (ABS), ESP, Roll Stability Control, Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electric Parking Brake, Electronic Air Suspension, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep assist, Driver Drowsiness Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control and queue assistant, Front and Rear Park Distance Sensor with visual display, rear parking aid Surround Camera System, Wade Sensing, Perpendicular Park Assist, Reverse Traffic Detection, Blind Sport monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing and so much more.

Our verdict on this SUV will be biased as we were truly madly deeply in love, we leave it up to you to decide if this the SUV of your dreams or not?

The Cadillac XT5 is more affordable than you think

For this weekend drive, we took on a mid-size luxury crossover SUV made by Cadillac: the Cadillac XT5 (short for Crossover Touring 5).

The XT5 was introduced back in 2015 at the LA Auto Show and Dubai International Motor show and made a huge impact on their audience. General Motors the American Car manufacturer replaced one of his best-selling vehicles the SRX crossover with a totally new vehicle the Cadillac XT5, so was it worth it?

Our journey initiated from IMPEX, Cadillac’s dealership in Lebanon, showroom to pick up this crossover SUV and witness its impact on the streets of Lebanon.

Our first stop was the busy streets of Beirut on a Saturday morning, the XT5 cuts a dashing silhouette wherever it goes. The exterior of this crossover SUV was a true magnet. The bystanders were admiring the ravishing beauty of this XT5. The front was at the same time aggressive and elegant, the large chrome grille centered by Cadillac’s emblem and sieged from both sides by the swept to the sides headlights with LED dripping downwards to form a continuity in design with the vertical fog lights were more than the eye can handle. From the back, the XT5 reminded us that this a true Cadillac as it resembles a lot the magnificent ATS and CTS and the all-mighty Escalade with its Cadillac’s signature vertical taillights and a slight hug to the rear fenders coupled with the twin exhausts tips to give the XT5 a family yet sporty design.

From the inside, the XT5 screams Cadillac all over. The design is simple yet elegant and has Cadillac written all over it, the synthetic leather upholstery used on the seats and dashboard adding to it the brushed aluminum trims and the layout of the screen and dashboard are made to perfectly fit the drivers’ needs. I personally liked one of the coolest phone slots in the business, tucked under the console-compartment lid. Your phone is kept largely out of sight with just the top edge sticking out and yet is still handy. That not only makes it less obvious to thieves should you leave your phone behind, it may help keep weak-willed phone junkies from playing Words with Friends on the road. Plus, the compartment doubles as a wireless charging station for those with compatible phones. For everybody else, dual USB ports keep devices charged without cords draped everywhere, while standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay add to the convenience.

What is also noticeable about the XT5, is the layout of the rear seats. Those riding in the rear will enjoy seats that slide and recline, as well as two back-seat USB ports. And what makes it more of a family luxury SUV is the fact that you can fold the back seats creating a flat floor needed when there’s a large amount of huge cargo to fit in the back for that long trip you are planning with the wife.

Seated comfortably in our leather seats, we enjoyed the 14 speakers surround-sound system for that acoustic refined experience (the XT5 comes standard with eight-speaker Bose stereo system) as we cruise to our weekend getaway countryside house. The XT5’s CUE infotainment system uses a vibrant 8.0-inch high-resolution touchscreen which made our ride a lot easier and accessible to be connected at all times.

Cruising down the countryside roads heading to our destination, the 3.6L V6 engine coped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox shooting a 310 horsepower was exactly what we need to push this crossover SUV now 126 Kg lighter than the previous SRX. On top of that, Cadillac featured on the XT5 the first application of GM’s Electronic Precision shift which replaces the standard hydraulic shifter with the electronic controller. The driving sensation on straight lines as well as curvy turns was exhilarating and provided a super comfortable driving experience.

Driving through the beautiful scenery of the Lebanese countryside roads and just before reaching our destination, I noticed the perfect shooting spot with amazing nature-made rock statues and had to stop for a memory photo that will last engraved in our minds. The road to that spot was a combination of gravel and dirt, despite the fact that if you own an XT5 off-roading is not on your mind, however, we had to try since the XT5 driven was an All-Wheel drive (front-wheel drive is the standard option). With enough ground clearance and the AWD system in action, we crossed the narrow out of tarmac pathway and pulled over for that perfect shot.

With no room to make a U-turn, the reverse was our only option. Set the gear in reverse and the video rear-view mirror with a 360° view backup camera made the backward experience as easy as it could be. Afterwards, we were on our way to finish our journey, and we actually kept the streaming video rear-view mirror on for a safer driving experience and a better view of what’s behind us.

Moreover, The XT5 comes loaded with safety and technology features to name a few: A rearview camera and rear parking sensors, front parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, a safety alert seat, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, forward and reverse automatic braking, front pedestrian braking, Intellibeam (Cadillac’s name for automatic high beams), a rear-camera mirror, a surround-vision camera, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, active park assist and so much more.

In order to compete with the growing segment of mid-size luxury crossover SUV, Cadillac has put an affordable price tag on its standard XT5. Those Cadillac lovers can now own their XT5 without thinking twice about the price. And for those seeking to take it up a notch with a more luxurious vehicle, General Motors has released the XT5 in four trims standard, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum.

Thus, if you’re searching for a luxury SUV that’s affordable, elegant, and comfortable, the Cadillac XT5 could be a good fit.

Join the quest for the best Dynamic Businessmen’s Vehicle onboard the Infiniti Q50 2018

Our Journey begins today with our quest to find the best Small Luxury Sedan suitable for the dynamic businessman. We wanted a unique vehicle, out of the ordinary selection of American and European cars, capable of fulfilling the active life’s needs, stylish and suitable for everyday drives and the energetic lifestyle of the on the rise executives.

Usually, businessmen and executives take bold and quick decisions every day that affects the lives and the progress of their corporation. These decisions tend to lay the pressure of daily work on their shoulders.

Thus, their selection of cars has to be reflective of their lifestyle and everyday routine. The chosen vehicle has to reveal their dynamic personality and be at the same time elegant, distinctive, connected, comfortable and more. For this occasion, we chose the 2018 Infiniti Q50 from the Japanese manufacturer to join us on our quest for the best Dynamic Businessmen’s Vehicle.

At first glance, you will notice that the Japanese manufacturer didn’t perform any overhauling on the exterior design of the 2018 Q50. However, a quick face to face comparison with the previous generation will reveal a different opinion.  The front of the facelifted 2018 Infiniti Q50 is characterized by a larger, three dimensional design grille centered by the Infiniti logo, the Infiniti Signature headlights resembling the human eye are now slimmer and more swept to the sides, the fog lights are now standards and perfectly positioned under the headlights coping with the new front bumper small modifications for that aggressive, sporty yet elegant front design. On the side, Infiniti has maintained the lateral lines that connect the front of the car to its rear, paving the way to a more athletic rear end with twin exhaust tips, rear diffuser, and slimmer taillights.

On another note and because entrepreneurs have different visions and requirements, the Japanese manufacturer has released the 2018 Q50 in four trims, each with different features: Luxe, Sport, Blue Sport, Red Sport 400 that can reach 400 Horsepower. The distinguished engine used is the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo from the “VR” family of engines. This engine was chosen among the top 10 engines for 2017.

After this quick round-up of the Infiniti Q50 exterior design and various lineup, I think it is time to put the Q50 to the road test and start touring the Lebanese roads and enjoy the various features on this car, and eventually get the answer for the most important question: does the 2018 Infiniti Q50 have all the requirements of the dynamic businessman?

As soon as we entered the inside cabin of the 2018 Infiniti Q50, we were captivated by the stylishness and modernity that the Japanese engineers adopted when designing the interior of the Q50. They integrated enhanced technology and upgraded quality materials all over the cabin, whether in the improved Infotainment technology or the leather-like materials with dual-stitching providing elegancy, comfort and connectivity.

The chosen vehicle for our journey today is the Infiniti Q50 Luxe, the first thing you notice while driving the Luxe is that it turns heads wherever we went. The passbyers of the vibrant city of Beirut couldn’t help but noticing the striking exterior of the 2018 Infiniti Q50, however we wanted more out of this vehicle thus we took it for a ride away from the noisy streets of Beirut and the pressure of our daily life. We skipped the highway and reached the Lebanese mountainous roads. The drive was super comfortable and the car was more than capable of overcoming the fast corners, we even pushed the engine to its limits and got the chance to enjoy the 208 horsepower juiced out of the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coped with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Q50 was floating on the curves and straight lines.

The most important feature that I enjoyed personally and in my opinion the main factor behind the comfort driving of the Q50 is the “spinal support” seats – which was designed to support the driver in his seat and also reduce the amount of pressure on the upper and lower back muscles.

From a connectivity perspective, and despite the fact that our journey onboard the Q50 was during the weekend, the decisions and continuous work joined us for the trip. Like any business decision maker, tough calls do not end with the weekdays, we wanted to stay connected at all times. The Infiniti Q50 technologies came to complement the constant communication through their (InTouch) systems, which kept me in touch with the world and able to take the needed decisions in a timely and easy manner, while maintaining luxury, comfort and safety during the driving process.

Moreover, and in contrast to the traditional interfaces, the Japanese manufacturer has built-in two touch screens (LCD / VGA 8-inch and 7-inch) that resembles one large control panel. The system is designed to match the car’s functionalities with the driver’s needs, directing contents and functions to the top screen, while maintaining the control buttons at the lower screen for easier access.

Just like the Infiniti Q50 comes with different trims catering for the different requirements of each businessman, the Japanese manufacturer has adopted the “InTuition” technology to allow owners of the Q50 customize the interior, driving settings and much more according to their needs. The seating setup can be customized and stored for multiple drivers detectable from the smart key. The driving modes can as well be customized according to the driving style of each individual from Personal, Standard, Snow and Sport driving modes.

In addition, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 comes equipped with several safety and comfort features: Start/stop system, active stability control system, ABS, EBD, TSC, VDC, Active LED Headlights – with automatic light level adjustment, front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, active noise control system and so much more…

In conclusion, and despite the fact that there aren’t any major changes on the 2018 Infiniti Q50, this car remains one of the best sellers at Infiniti and the most desirable among business people who want to distinguish themselves from the traditional Small Luxury Sedans options yet remain stylish, elegant, dynamic and unique.

Discovering the city of Tripoli in Lebanon on board the Mazda CX-5

As the weekdays come to an end, we have decided to go on an out of ordinary trip for our weekend getaway.

We have decided to adventure in discovering a Lebanese ancient city, one of the oldest in the world and the 2nd in the world to contain the largest quantity of historical monuments in one city; we have decided to tour the city of Tripoli in Lebanon.

Moreover, and as we were planning our discovery journey, our eyes were set on one extraordinary location to be our first stop in Tripoli. We’ve heard about “The Rashid Karameh International Exhibition Center”, the fifth among the largest exhibition centers in the world in terms of dimensions and variety of construction. An exhibition center that was built in the late 60s’ and early 70s’ of the 20th century with a futuristic vision and a forward-looking outlook.

To match the concept of this chosen location, we needed a car that influenced the automotive manufacturing industry and set the future trend for its manufacturer. We chose Mazda’s compact crossover The “CX-5” 2018 model. This car has revolutionized the Japanese automotive trends and set the path for future designs specifically with the Japanese manufacturer Mazda. In 2011 and during the Tokyo International Motor Show, Mazda introduced for the first time the concept of the Kodo Design or the “Soul of Motion” through the CX-5 first generation. Afterwards the Kodo design became an integral part of the Japanese manufacturer’s identity in all its modern designs.

On D-day and as the sun began to rise, our journey on board the all-new Mazda CX-5 2018 initiated as we hit the Beirut-Tripoli highway. The roads were almost empty, so we took benefit of the occasion and juiced the CX-5 engine in different conditions. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coped with a six-speed automatic transmission producing 188 horsepower was exactly what we expected it to be. The CX-5 is also equipped with SkyActiv Technology which helps significantly in providing the right amount of power when needed and also helps in reducing fuel consumption and fuel emissions.

Mazda-CX-5-Test-Drive-Arab-Motor-World-03

Reaching our first destination in Tripoli, “The Rachid Karameh International Exhibition Center”, we were stunned with the amazing scenery and the variety of sights from concrete to greenery. We took advantage of the superb weather and nature’s mix of lights and colors to take some astonishing photos for the Mazda CX-5.

Mazda’s black colored compact crossover has a captivating exterior. The front of the CX-5 is stylish yet aggressive with a large new design grille centered by Mazda’s enlarged emblem with a 3D effect, a bold statement by the Japanese manufacturer conveying its message of Mazda’ evolution over the past few years and providing a sense of pride when owning any new vehicle from the Mazda’s lineup. The front is also characterized by a chrome strip underneath the grille connecting the two headlights and swept inside the headlights’ design for that “Continuity in Design” feature that symbolizes Mazda’s new identity. The “Continuity in Design” is clearly shown with the similarity in shape between the headlights and taillights of the CX-5 and noticeable with the side lines connecting those lights from front to back for that extra aerodynamics. These lines combined with the muscular shaped fenders provides a more athletic looks on the All-New CX-5.

The photoshoot session is done and now it was time to meet our guide for that promised tour of Tripoli’s historical monuments.

As soon as we entered the inside cabin of the CX-5, a puzzled smile appeared on the face of our guide. He was intrigued with the modern and elegant design of the CX-5 interior. Mazda has adopted a modern and future interior design with a clear change from the previous generation. The materials used from leather and elegant plastic reflected the stylish scheme required in this type of cars. Our guide had a specific question about that peculiar looking wood element carefully laid on the console and door panels. And the answer was simple, Mazda used the “Wood-Metal” material to reveal its intention of combining the elegant feel of classic wood and the modern and futuristic touch of the inside cabin elements. On top of that and for that extra spice of elegance, Mazda also relied on handcrafted stiches for its super comfortable leather seats and steering wheel. The distance between the stiches is exactly the same proving once more that the CX-5 is inspired by classic, handcrafted elegancy with a futuristic approach and design.

Mazda also gave the rear area a “noteworthy” attention in terms of design, comfort and space. The rear seats are as elegant as the front zone and are supported with a hand rest containing a USB charging port and cup holders dedicated for the rear cabin passengers. For storage space, the CX-5 is equipped for both family and adventure seekers, we therefore find a relatively large trunk storage space. The space can be extended considerably for those extra shopping bags or adventure cargo by lowering the rear seats using the designated handles in the trunk of the CX-5.

After that careful dissertation of the interior and exterior designs, we were ready to move and have set course for our 2nd destination: The Crusader Fortress of Tripoli built in the early 12th century. We took some narrow roads and were faced with traffic jams. The Mazda CX-5 is well equipped for that extra comfort in daily drives, the “Auto Hold” option made our life easier in traffic jams. it holds the car standing still on full stop even when the feet are lifted of the brake pedal and moves forward when needed with a single touch on the gas pedal.

After the fortress, we cruised to visit another two archaeological sites located in one destination; the 13th century ” Barsbay Tower ” and the “Ottoman railway station” in the harbor. Although access to them is not that easy, the All-Wheel Drive system with the Active Torque Split functions came in-handy to overcome some mud and rough terrain surrounding the two sites. This have proved that despite the fact that the CX-5 is not built initially for rough off-roading however it does the job when needed for those adventure seekers.

As the day come to an end, our journey in Tripoli came to its last moments with a promise to return soon and continue our visit to the remaining archaeological sites. The trip onboard the Mazda CX-5 was far from being over. As the night laid its wings on the highway, we took benefit from our return trip to Beirut and got the chance to experience the “G Vectoring Control” on those curvy turns and also experience the vast variety of the CX-5’s safety and technological options such as: Adaptive LED Headlights, 7″ screen infotainment, TCS, ABS and so much more.

At the end, it must be said that Mazda has evolved significantly over the generations of the CX-5, and has given Mazda lovers a new car entirely worthy of carrying the Badge of the Japanese distinguished manufacturer “Mazda”.

Mazda MX-5 “Miata” Super Fun Geisha

Image Credit by K8 Car Photography

Here’s how it all started: We were having a fun day at the Mazda Fun2Drive event at PitStop Karting arena, trying out Mazda’s new line up. Suddenly, as I turned my head towards the track, I saw the most beautiful creature I had ever laid eyes on. Dressed in red and ready to impress, the body was to die for, all curvy on the sides as it should be, the lips and eyes were a perfect match, it had that wild beauty and aggressive stare with a Japanese flair: “the Mazda MX-5 Miata” was simply gorgeous.

On that day, I couldn’t resist taking it for a spin on the tracks and seeing if it is was exciting to drive as it was to look at. Two laps on the track were super electrifying with the Mazda fun driving sensation; however, we couldn’t get enough, so we decided to drive it for a weekend and see if the new Miata is a true Geisha. Being fun to drive is not always about speed, adrenaline, and super cars. Being fun to drive is all about enjoying the driving experience while having the perfect balance between power, drivability, looks, and driving sensation. Well, it was time to put the new Miata to the test.

First, let me start by saying that Mazda did an awesome job in keeping the true original spirit of the Miata it its fourth generation. The Mazda roadster still has its own character and personality as it did from day one, rolling out of the Japanese factory. If we want to address the looks, in my personal opinion, it has a very distinguished design. It combines toughness with magical curviness.

The Mazda MX-5 is truly charming from the outside; the perfect lines on the hood, diving their way down to the front façade, creates a perfect match with the new front bumper design attached to the lower, sporty-looking lips and perfectly sorted with the all-new Mazda headlights coming all the way from a sexy, curvy, and a little bit muscly formed fenders. Moving to the sides, you can clearly see that this baby has the perfect lines all the way to the rear. The taillights are extremely well defined and swept into the sides, just before reaching the wide rear fenders, which are slightly wider than the front, giving the MX-5 the aerodynamics it needs for perfect air sliding on drive mode. Oh, and yes, it is a convertible that looks absolutely stunning with the top down, or up. So the MX-5 has the perfect fit body for a dancer, but can it dance?

Dancing requires gracefulness, power, emotion, and joy. The all-new Mazda MX-5 surely has the body for it, but we wanted to see if it had it all. We took the Miata for a weekend drive, and we were truly astonished by its drivability.

A 2.0 L SKYACTIV Drive 4-cylinder Mazda engine generating 155 HP and coped with a six-speed Tiptronic Transmission is what powers the MX-5. When needed, this engine has the perfect balance between economical and powerful drive. During our journey, we took the Miata uphill for a cruise around the Lebanese mountains. The power performed when needed, and the fuel economy was impressive. On those mountainous curves, the Miata was truly sliding from side to the other; the accuracy of the steering system is not to be compared. Assisted by the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), ABS (Anti-lock Braking system), and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), for that extra Mazda road safety touch, added to the Rear-Wheel Drive system, I was having a hassle-free and fun driving experience resembling that special dance you always pledged for with your high school queen on prom night.

The sun was shining, Miata’s top was down, and the light mountainous breeze was playing with our hair while we sat comfortably in those heated, black leather seats with red stiches. That it is what comfort and fun is all about. Being well positioned in an amiable, reliable, and perfectly designed cabinet can truly reflect the feeling you get inside the all-new Miata. Mazda have used almost the same interior layout in all its new vehicles, but the Miata is still the most unique. The inside cabinet was perfectly laid, and the use of black leather and red stitching all over gave it a sporty look. My personal favorite touch was the door panels with black leather and red stitching, black plastic with a sporty pattern trim, and most attractive, the combination of the body color with the coded upper door panel and chrome brushed handles. What a combination!

The MX-5 comes equipped with tons of features to keep you entertained, safe, and connected, such as Blind Sport Monitoring, Daytime Running Lamps (LED), Advanced Keyless Entry with Push-Button Engine Start, Ambient Temperature Display, Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Control, Paddle Shifts Gear Control, Rear-View Mirror with Auto Dimming Function, 7-inch Full Color Touch Screen Display, Parking Sensors (Rear & Corner), Internet Radio Integration via Aha Application, Auxiliary Audio Input Jack, Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone and Audio Capability, USB-audio Input Port (IPod Compatible), Multi-function Commander Control, 9 Speakers Bose with 2-in Speakers in the Driver and Passenger-seat Headrests, Front and Side Airbags (Passenger and Driver) Screw Driver Tool Kit, and Burglar Alarm.

No wonder this car swept all auto journalist and experts off their feet and collected so many awards such as the 2016 World Car of the Year Award and the 2016 World Car Design of the Year Award.

Finally, the definition of Geisha as per Wikipedia is the following: “Geisha (芸者 ?), Geiko/Geigi (芸妓) are traditional Japanese female entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various arts such as classical music, dance, games and conversation, mainly to entertain customers”.
