NEW TAG HEUER CARRERA CALIBRE 16 SPEEDS ONTO THE SCENE WITH AN UPDATED DESIGN

The TAG Heuer Carrera has always been a timepiece for racing drivers as much as for watch aficionados who treasure timepieces with heritage and innovative design. The new stylistic enhancements to the legendary TAG Heuer Carrera give it a more modern edge that not only improves the legibility of the dial, but also makes it ideal for everyday style – from the office to a casual weekend on the go. The revamped 41 mm TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 combines performance with a sporty, distinguished appearance for a timepiece that is as functional and comfortable as it is fashionable.

Driving first-class design

Several newly designed features make this refreshed timepiece stand out from its stylish predecessors. The dial – in sunray black or sunray blue – has evolved to become even more legible, ideal for drivers as they speed towards the finish line or cruise down the open road. The counters on the chronograph’s three subdials are larger and more pronounced. Instead of a dot of SuperLuminova® at each index, the index markers are now subtly filled with the luminescent material for optimal visibility in any condition. A dash of colour enhances the overall appearance of the timepiece – on the black dial, a red accent graces the tips of the central seconds hand and subdial hands, the start/stop pusher and the flange from 12 to 3 o’clock. On the models with a blue dial, the accent is orange.

Further distinguishing the new models is the stainless-steel case, which appears thinner and sleeker due to the shorter lugs and a balance of brushed and polished finishes that give the watch a more dynamic character. The new length and style of the lugs make the watch more comfortable to wear – day after day, race after race.

The black or blue ceramic bezel also appears larger since it no longer has a metal ring along the outer edge. This change underscores the sporty look of this elegant timepiece.

A dynamic combination

The most eye-catching of the four new models is the piece in blue with a light brown leather strap. Reintroducing this colour in a TAG Heuer Carrera watch of this size, this modern timepiece is presented on a perforated calfskin strap with stitching and lining in the same orange colour as the accents on the dial. Its counterpart also features the dial in sunray blue but has a stainless-steel bracelet. The models with a sunray black dial come with a stainless-steel bracelet or a perforated black leather strap with red stitching.

Under the bonnet

Powering each of the new models is the automatic Calibre 16, protected by a stamped caseback with the collection name and a tyre-track pattern that serves as a nod to the collection’s heritage of high speed and adventure. The crown has also been given a slight upgrade with black lacquer around the centre and the TAG Heuer shield.

The TAG Heuer Carrera collection was originally introduced in 1963. Its ties with the world of motor racing continue to drive the line, which has become one of the brand’s most popular and well known. Designed for professional racers, the collection was named after the famous and dangerous Carrera Panamericana race, which saw only the most daring drivers take part. The word Carrera means “race” or “career”, and the bold, innovative and tough watches bearing this name are made for those who do things their way – whether out on the racetrack or following their own path.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Huracàn Performante

Excalibur Huracàn Performante

Every day is a competition day for Roger Dubuis, filled with challenges to be taken on and ambitious goals to be reached. Like Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the Maison is firmly committed to cutting-edge performance, ferocious groundbreaking technology and super-sleek aesthetics, all fuelled by a high-impact R&D vision and focused on delivering bold customer experiences. This set of common denominators put them on a fast track to a roaring encounter where sparks were bound to fly.

Feeling the thrill

For individuals committed to pushing their own limits and defying all known rules, Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsport department and Manufacture Roger Dubuis have opted to pool their knowledge and expertise. When visionary engineers meet with incredible watchmakers, the inevitable surge of adrenaline results in models “Powered by raging mechanics”, of which the first was unleashed on September 20th 2017. One year into these high-octane joint endeavours, the Italian aesthetic flair continues to merge with Swiss precision and mechanical instruments.

In it to win it

In 2018, inspired by Lamborghini Squadra Corse and its unique automobile aesthetic showcased in the Huracán Performante, the watchmakers of the Manufacture have developed a timepiece brimming with racing design codes. One of the most striking features of the aggressive Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece is its brand-new ‘engine’: the RD630 movement with its 12° inclined balance wheel representing the calibre signature associated with Lamborghini. Taking strong visual cues from the shapes on which the supercar is based, this timepiece notably gives pride of place to the hexagon. A versatile geometrical figure used to construct the volume of the supercar, it appears throughout the timepiece in various guises and is notably reproduced to symbolize strut bars. The stand-out half hexagon appearing on the louvered air intakes of the Lamborghini Huracán Performante are repeated as miniature versions visible through the openwork dial of the Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece.

Other special decoration includes a new crown inspired by racing nuts on supercar wheels, a twin-barrel ‘energy tank’ and a multi-material ‘spoiler’, used for the decorative openworked bridges. Viewed from the back, even the complete circular weight of the automatic movement emulates the design of the wheel rims of Lamborghini’s Huracán family. Offering the same blend of performance, lightness and security as its namesake supercar, the Excalibur Huracán Performante timepiece sports distinctive “Technical Titan Grey” livery complete with signature bright yellow accents. The lining of the genuine Alcantara strap of the Excalibur Huracán Performante watch crosses the finish line with a rubber inlay featuring the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyre pattern design.

Life in the fast lane

Because there is nothing as powerful as real-life experiences, the 88 privileged owners of this stunning timepiece can also look forward to life in the fast lane with a ride as privileged spectators from the inside of the Super Trofeo. Sit tight for December 1 and all that comes thereafter!

Ayrton Senna unequalled talent and panache ensured he left a lasting mark on Formula 1, more than any driver before or since. “Magic Senna” is considered by his peers to be one of the greatest drivers the world has ever seen: three world championship titles (1988, 1990 and 1991), 65 pole positions, and 41 Grand Prix victories.

Throughout his career, Senna reinvented a whole new vocabulary of superlatives. Fastest, most agile, smartest… and records that he broke each time. His motivation to win, to push himself and his car to the limits, and his exceptional powers of concentration in the face of intense pressure have shaped his legend, and led TAG Heuer to ask him to be the face of the first #DontCrackUnderPressure campaign in 1991.

This fall, TAG Heuer is proud to present two new models paying tribute to his Ambassador, this time reinterpreting the iconic TAG Heuer Carrea Chronograph, and proudly displaying the famous Senna symbol and name on the dial, bezel and caseback:

  • TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre HEUER02 Chronograph Automatic, is available with the iconic bracelet with S-shaped links, as adopted by Ayrton at the height of his achievements. • TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Tourbillon Chronograph Chronometer, is available with a bi-material rubber / calfskin leather strap, and including a black matte tachymeter with SENNA inscription. The Heuer 02 Tourbillon movement was designed and developed entirely at TAG Heuer. Special limited Edition of 175 pcs, every watch will be individually numbered.

In keeping Ayrton Senna sporty and classy spirit, the two new watches perfectly reflect the spirit of the man who still reflect, today more than ever, the state of mind behind TAG Heuer #dontcrackunderpressure.

Montblanc – Official Timing Partner of the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood, one of the grandest motor racing occasions

From July 12th to 15th, the impressive sporting estate of Goodwood will be transformed into the Festival of Speed, one of the greatest festivals of car culture in the world today and an important fixture on the British social calendar. Motor racing enthusiasts will be entertained by some of the world’s most accomplished racing drivers behind the wheels of some of today’s rarest and most spectacular machinery.

Founded 25 years ago in June 1993, The Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates its Silver Jubilee this year with a presentation of its founder’s — the Duke of Richmond (formerly Lord March) — 25 most memorable moments through an exhibition of cars and the drivers who created them.

As Official Timing Partner for the second year running, Montblanc will lend its timekeeping expertise to the numerous races that take place over the four-day event. As is customary each year, the festival will culminate in a spectacular 1.16-mile timed Hillclimb Shootout, which will determine the champion of the 2018 Festival of Speed and the winner of a Montblanc timepiece — The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph “Cappuccino” edition.

During the event, Montblanc will host a special Pavilion where guests can come and relax and discover the Montblanc collections. The Duke of Richmond will also be joining Montblanc and its guests for a special preview of the collection and a sneak peek at the winner’s timepiece.

Montblanc & Goodwood

“There are only a  few motor racing celebrations as thrilling and exciting as Goodwood Festival of Speed. With the participation of magnificent cars that range from the vintage to the most avant-garde, this event is the perfect partnership for Montblanc, a Maison that celebrates its spirit of innovation and its long watchmaking heritage,” shares Montblanc CEO Nicolas Baretzki.

Davide Cerrato, Montblanc’s Managing Director Watch Division adds: “Montblanc timepieces celebrate the unrelenting passion for speed that has been at the heart of motor racing for the past century. For the past 25 years, the spirit of racing has found its home at Goodwood, an event that brings together those who share this passion for speed from all corners of the world. I can’t think of a better venue.”

Paying tribute to the Minerva legacy, Montblanc continues 160 years of fine watchmaking heritage with its collections.  The Minerva Manufacture was known as an exclusive workshop producing high-quality instruments for measuring brief intervals of time with remarkable precision — for example, the 1/100th of second counter that was presented in 1916. A perfect example of this heritage is the “Rally Timer”, a stopwatch that was created to time motor racing with utmost precision and which has been the source of inspiration for the TimeWalker collection.

During the Goodwood event, and in a few selected boutiques, Montblanc will present two new limited edition models that have been inspired by the colour of the tropical dial effect – a Manufacture Chronograph and an Automatic Date. The dials are beige with brown counters and brown flanges and have been fondly nicknamed the “Cappuccinos” thanks to their warm and harmonious colour scheme.

BEAUTIFUL FREAKS INTRODUCING THE ULYSSE NARDIN EXECUTIVE SKELETON TOURBILLON “STARS & STRIPES”

stars and stripes

“Honor, courage, commitment”, as they say in the US Navy. Ulysse Nardin is celebrating over a century of dedication to nautical precision and values shared with the United States Navy by launching a special edition of its Executive Tourbillon:  the Stars and Stripes. Created in homage to the American flag with its 13 white and red stripes and 50 white stars on a deep blue background, each piece in this limited line of 50 pieces, – one for each state in the Union – is as unique as its wearer. The Ulysse Nardin Executive Tourbillon Stars and Stripes will be launched on the 4th of July in celebration of America’s Independence Day.

The US Navy, known for mottos such as “We shall not perish” equips its sailors with the most precise instruments known to man. In choosing its nautical supplier in 1902, it looked no further than Ulysse Nardin for its superb accuracy and traditional craftsmanship. Winner several times over of the Washington Naval Observatory’s competition to equip its torpedo boats, Ulysse Nardin’s instruments have been an essential part of US naval ships for more than a hundred years.

With an ironclad reputation for excellence, Ulysse Nardin has allowed itself to take disruption to a new level with the Stars and Stripes. The arachnid-like skeleton movement reveals the delicate ballet of perfectly-meshed parts, each working in symbiosis with the others.  Open-worked movements, the apex of high watchmaking, are attempted only by expert horologers.  A movement of this caliber has been stripped of all unnecessary elements, each piece angled and polished to perfection. Roman numerals add a touch of elegance and the titanium case ensures durability. The UN-171 manufactured model, with a tremendous and unequalled 170-hour power reserve (nearly seven days), is also an object of beauty topped with a blue ceramic bezel, blue crown and blue carbon effect leather strap. Painted using a micro-painting technique that at requires a paintbrush the width of a single eyelash, stars adorn the top and stripes decorate the cover of the cylinder. At its center is the distinguishing executive rectangle and each oeuvre is one of a kind.

As they say in the US Navy, peace through strength, freedom through strength and “vis per mare”: strength from the sea. With the Ulysse Nardin Executive Tourbillon Stars and Stripes, the journey begins!

Ulysse Nardin Classic Tourbillon Falcon

Classic Tourbillon Falcon

To celebrate the adventurous spirit of the people of the UAE, the unique desert lifestyle of the ancient tribes and its grand tradition of falconry, Ulysse Nardin has crafted the exceptionally unique Classic Tourbillon Falcon in a limited edition of eight timepieces, which will be available over Eid.

Ulysse Nardin’s master watchmakers have created this exquisite timepiece drawing deeply on the inspiration of the desert heritage of the region as well as the much-loved tradition of falconry that has been held dear by the people. The stoop and swoop of the peregrine falcon and it’s exhilarating speed and agility are much loved qualities that resonated through the ages and are intertwined as an integral aspect of the desert dweller’s lifestyle.

While the sport has drawn in both rulers and commoners, it was His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding Father and first President of the UAE, whose love for the Tourbillon Falcon saw him pioneer initiatives to preserve the bird and the sport for posterity, by putting in place far-sighted initiatives to conserve and protect the unique bird, which has seen the sport continue to this day.

Equipped with the UN-178 Manufacture movement, the new Classic Tourbillon Falcon is adorned with a dial displaying a faithful reproduction of a falconry scene in the desert at sunrise. One can admire the quality of the details, produced by the dexterous hand of the master enameler. The miniature scale and the repeated firing necessary to create the vitreous enamel highlights the superior talent of the masters, who spend more than 50 hours making the gold “cloisons” or compartments that comprise the dial’s design. The CLASSIC Tourbillon Falcon provides a three-dimensional effect thanks to the thickness of the enamel layer.

On the right, a man can be seen in a white kandoura, the traditional Emirati clothing for men. On the left is a peregrine falcon, the national emblem of the United Arab Emirates. With wings spread in a strong, majestic pose, it is about to land on the welcoming arm of its master, who is looking in its direction.

The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal in the world; thanks to its keen eyes, it can dive on other birds with astounding speed and then seize them in the steel grip of its claws. An agile predator, the falcon quickly became a symbol of strength and courage, and in time even the national emblem of the UAE. Like the camel or Arabian horse, the falcon is fixed in the memories and hearts of the Arab people like never before.

All the expertise of traditional watchmaking is incorporated into this exceptional 44 mm timepiece, featuring cloisonné enamel, flying tourbillon, silicon escapement and a power reserve of over 7 days. Each watch of this 8-piece collection in white gold is unique and enameled by hand. Ulysse Nardin remains one of the few manufacturers to master the enameling technique in-house and one of the first to have contributed to the revival of the striking mechanism.

MINI LIVING: A MICRO-APARTMENT CONCEPT

At the LA Design Festival from 7 – 10 June 2018, MINI presents the MINI LIVING Urban Cabin in Los Angeles. The micro-apartment concept was developed in an unused attic space in downtown LA in collaboration with local architect duo FreelandBuck.

The Urban Cabin in LA is now the third interpretation of a concept developed by MINI LIVING last year; there are to be five in all. The Urban Cabin provides temporary living space with a high degree of flexibility and lots of possibilities – on a surface area of just 15 m2. One particular design focus is the local identity and culture of the specific location in each case. After London, New York City and now Los Angeles, there are plans to implement the project in Beijing and Tokyo during the second half of the year.

In pursuing this concept, MINI is taking the first step towards a global network of creative apartment solutions in which the idea is to make residents feel at home, regardless of the city they live in. “We’re working on our own very distinct interpretation of co-living. Our aim is to enable a genuine sense of community, opening doors and creating public space,” explains Esther Bahne, Head of Strategy and Innovation MINI. “Our installations and visionary formats seek to explore a whole new range of possibilities in the creative use of space, and we’re now putting what we’ve learned into practice in the form of real-life construction projects. In Shanghai we’re currently working on our first hub with more than 50 apartments complete with shared and public space: this is due to open in April next year.” The Urban Cabins anticipate the real-life MINI LIVING buildings in terms of their concept and design.

Big life. Small footprint.
The MINI LIVING Urban Cabins offer as much living quality as possible within a small space. They are made up of three formal elements. The two outer modules are the living and sleeping area on one side and the bathroom and kitchen on the other; these two elements are designed by the MINI LIVING team. The third part – an experiential space with the character of an installation – is defined by MINI as an empty space, and for each cabin, a local architects’ bureau is invited to fill it out. The theme selected always has to be relevant to the specific location. The two living areas have a perforated metal facade on the outside. The transparency, lighting, spatial impression and character change during the course of the day. On the inside, the look is created by combining wood with surprising, modern materials. “Creative use of space” – the core MINI principle – is reflected down to the last detail in smart, space-saving solutions: push, fold, rotate and fold mechanisms enable various use scenarios for day and night. Portholes, windows and fold-out shelves also allow residents to make flexible use of private and shared space: the Urban Cabins open outwards – one of the fundamental principles of MINI LIVING.

The approach of the cabins not only seeks to address the decrease in available living space as well as the rise in prices and the drop in living quality that this involves but also provide a corrective for the global spread of more homogeneous architecture and the resulting loss of cultural identity and variation.

Next stop: Los Angeles
Los Angeles residents attach great importance to being connected to the natural environment.
The MINI LIVING Urban Cabin in LA addresses this in a downtown setting by providing an urban oasis. In the cabin’s experiential space, architect duo FreelandBuck from Los Angeles created a hanging garden along with perforated areas to let in plenty of air and light. The duo also designed two nested cubes that produce a kaleidoscopic visual effect. The result is an atmospheric interplay of light refractions and visual illusions – a kind of trompe l’oeil. The outwardly protruding hanging garden combined with this suggestive play of light conveys to visitors the sense of being in the countryside – even though it is in the middle of the city.

Looking ahead: the global village
After the MINI LIVING Urban Cabins in London, New York and now LA, further stops are planned for the concept this year. The next ones will be at House Vision in Beijing and Design Art in Tokyo. In both cases, local architects will be contributing their individual perspective. The five Urban Cabins provide a foretaste of the various functions and spaces in the MINI LIVING building, the first co-living project in China which is due to open in Shanghai in 2019. Together these form a global village of MINI LIVING initiatives that map out a potential pathway to the future of urban living.

The Exquisite Bond of Diamonds and Carbon Fiber : Audi Sport by C6

Audi Sport

A collection of luxury jewellery and accessories handmade and designed in Denmark, composed of carbon fiber and diamonds is the result of a brand cooperation between Audi and C6. To celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan, the exclusive Audi Sport collection is now available to purchase in the Middle East at a special price with 5% VAT included.

Audi Sport

C6 is an awarded Danish luxury jewelry concept developed by designer Anne Cohen. It builds on the idea of combining different forms of the carbon element – C6 – by bonding carbon fiber and diamonds. No other materials are added in this process – the stones are instead placed directly into the carbon fiber using advanced craftsmanship techniques.

Audi Sport and the red rhombus stand for ultimate performance, progressiveness and passion in motorsports. Carbon fiber is one of the most effective materials employed in the production of high-performance cars due to its lightweight and tensile strength properties. C6 by Anne Cohen was selected by the brand with the Four Rings to design a collection that innovatively combines carbon fiber and diamonds in uniquely captivating pieces for Audi Sport. The design lines of the jewelry are inspired by the interior of the new Audi R8.

Audi Sport by C6 contains six different items including rings, bracelets, pendants, cufflinks and key chains. The collection can be seen and purchased at The Audi Boutique in the Al Nabooda Service Centre in Al Quoz.

In a conversation with Anne Cohen the founder and designer of C6 about her exclusive jewelry line, she described what makes this range so innovative and relevant to Audi Sport.

Audi Sport

What makes the design of C6 unique?

It’s an original concept that is handmade using advanced craftsmanship. There is no additional material that holds the diamond in the carbon fiber. The result is a pure carbon ring. No one has been able to combine the two opposite forms together in that way before.

What inspired you to create C6?

It all started with a passion for the ocean. I went on a journey across the Atlantic on a 60-feet Vende Globe racing boat. The actual construction of the boat is where I became familiar with carbon fiber. Holding a piece of black carbon fiber in one hand and a bright diamond in the other, knowing that they originate from the same basic element sparked a deep sense of wonder within me. It is simple yet complex. I wanted to create a design that reflects the philosophy of life. I wanted a design that is timeless, a piece that is an evolution from carbon in supernova explosions to carbon in our modern day technologies.

The C6 pieces are quite light, is it durable?

Carbon fiber is 5 times lighter than steel but twice as strong. As a material, to be that light yet that strong is fascinating. Carbon fiber has high stiffness and tensile strength yet it is low in weight. It has high resistance to chemicals, pressure and heat. The fascinating properties of carbon fiber made it very popular in aerospace and motorsports, in addition to other competitive sports. This is what also makes it very unique and stylish.
