Almost every James Bond movie has an Aston Martin in it, it seems that the Aston Martin is the perfect Spy Car for her majesty’s secret service. To me, I had the car and the attitude what was missing is the accent and the girl, well it doesn’t really matter when you are driving the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 V8.
Sitting on the plane heading to Dubai for the Aston Martin Test Drive was simply exhilarating, the flight was an overnight trip so I was trying to catch an eye shut every now and then. The best part was that every time I closed my eyes, I slip into one of those James Bond car chase scenes onboard of one of those Aston Martins that shaped that movie saga.
Landed it Dubai on that day early in the morning, I headed straight to the Aston Martin Showroom to pick up my car. All I can think of is “Q” heading down towards me to hand me my Aston Martin loaded with Special Weapons that I will use to conquer my enemies. Onsite, Miss Moneypenny, in our case the PR lady that handed me the car, delivered my mission that is to drive the Aston Martin and save the world. Not to get carried away with our imagination, saving the world to me was about conquering the asphalt on the streets of Dubai.
The Aston Martin DB 11 had a gorgeous white exterior color selected carefully from the contemporary AML paint palette, it felt like those white horses from the ancient ages and I felt like the knight in his shining armor riding that wild white horse or should I say those 503 horsepower as I roam the streets of Dubai.
The Aston Martin DB 11 had an exterior design that screams: “I’m a Jet Plane move over”, yet still maintained the British elegance with the sporty design of an Aston Martin. The glossy Black splitter, diffuser, and sills along with the painted gloss black roof panel embedded within the silky white paint color gave the DB 11 one heck of a look from all corners. The front LED headlights coped with the swept to the side LED light blade tail-lamps and combined with the front lip and rear diffuser with twin tailpipes provided that extra sportiness design suitable for the arched front and rear fenders all sculpturing the athletic body of the Aston Martin DB 11.
Now it was time to get a hold of my Aston Martin keys and hits the roads, all I can hear in my head was “Q” saying: “Mr. Bond, your DB11 is ready” as he explained the loaded weapon car. The Aston Martin Db 11 came fully equipped with anything you can think of except the Hood Machine Gun and the Seat Eject from the Deployable spoiler to improve downforce, 1 piece clamshell with syncing latches, Curlicue aero feature in fender, Laminated glass all-round for improved NVH, Electric Power Assisted Steering rack, Electric Column tilt and reach adjustment, Front Independent double wishbone and Rear Multi-Link suspension with coil springs, anti-roll bar and adaptive dampers, Adaptive Damping System (ADS) with Skyhook technology modes GT, Sport & Sport +, Front and Rear Ventilated steel brake discs, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Traction Control (TC), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Positive Torque Control (PTC), Dynamic Torque Vectoring (DTV), Launch Control, 360° surround view parking cameras, Trip computer, Electronic Instrument Cluster with mode specific displays, Laminated windscreen with clear noise-insulation layer, 8.0” LCD Screen, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound Audio System and Safety features beyond compare with Airbags deployed all over the place with locations I don’t want to even mention.
But what is a car spy if it doesn’t have connectivity and gadgets to blow your mind, the Aston Martin DB 11 came with Integrated satellite navigation system2, Infotainment system with capacitive switching, Wi-Fi Hub5 and check this out First aid kit, Umbrella and holder and so much more.
Once inside the cockpit, I was transported to a world of elegance, sportiness and Aston Martin universe. The super comfortable Full-grain Leather seats and interior was astonishing with its duotone Deep Purple leather and orange hand stitched design. Just don’t look up as the roof is a sight to see. To cope with the elegance and sportiness, the interior of the Aston Martin DB 11 comes with Alcantara Headlining, Embroidered or Embossed DB11 headrest, oh and yes the Aston Martin has a different leather from all manufacturer for that extra smoothness and luxury: the Caithness leather or Balmoral leather with Celestial perforation is just perfect. And don’t get me started on the Piano Black and the Carbon Fibre, in my opinion, the materials used on this DB11 are among the highest in quality and do reflect the luxury and athletic feel of a British Super Sports car.
Now it was time to fire up the engine and save the world “James Bond-style”. As soon as you press the ignition button, the symphony on that exhaust firing up the V8 is a pure adrenaline rush. Yes, you’ve read it right a V8, most of you will now say I prefer the V12, this is where I disagree. The V12 might sound faster as it is equipped with 4-cylinder more, however, the V8 is actually lighter and in drivability, you barely notice the difference of 0.1 seconds when pushing it from 0-100 km/h. The Aston Martin DB 11 V8 engine is a 4.0L twin-turbocharged engine producing 503 HP with 675 Nm of torque capable of reaching a top speed of 300 km/h and acceleration of 4.0 seconds from 0-100 Km/h all coped with an Eight-Speed automatic gearbox with electronic shift-by-wire control system the same as the V12.
Driving this beast on the empty desert streets of the United Arab Emirates was adrenaline-charged and mouth drying. Still, in my James Bond character, I parked over the nearby Gas Station and asked the cashier for a bottle of Water Shaken Not Stirred. This is the Aston Martin for the next James Bond movie.
