AMR Performance Centre opens at the Nürburgring

A decade on from the opening of the Aston Martin Nürburgring Test Centre, the newly-updated ‘AMR Performance Centre’ is now open for business.

Opened by Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Andy Palmer at an exclusive media and VIP guest reception on the eve of the 2018 ADAC Zurich 24-Hour race at the Nürburgring, the AMR Performance Centre represents a further step in the company’s plans to develop its AMR performance brand.

Situated alongside the 12.9-mile Nordschleife, the AMR Performance Centre becomes a ‘one-stop-shop’ for Aston Martin customers looking to develop their abilities on track.

From progressing individuals to their very first race licence through the centre’s Driving Academy, to providing a rigorous car preparation service, the AMR Performance Centre can cover all bases. For those also looking to compete, the facility can provide the opportunity to rent fully-supported race cars, deliver casual track day experiences or offer the ultimate Nordschleife ‘taxi-ride’.

For Aston Martin Racing – the British marque’s official motorsport outfit – the AMR Performance Centre will become a support hub for its European customers and race teams, who will be able to visit for advice and an enhanced parts service. With the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and GT4 race cars available later this year for the 2019 season, it is expected that the brand’s presence in all local racing championships will grow as a result of this new service. The AMR Performance Centre is also proud to offer specialist service and repair for the company’s most extreme super-cars – the One-77, the Vulcan track car, and the forthcoming Valkyrie.

Special guests at the opening party included all six Aston Martin Racing ‘works’ drivers – Darren Turner, Jonny Adam, Alex Lynne, Marco Sorensen, Nicki Thiim and Maxime Martin – who are all in action in the 24-Hour race which starts at 15:30 CET on Saturday 12th May

David King, Aston Martin Vice President and Chief Special Operations Officer commented: “The Aston Martin Nürburgring Test Centre has served us well for the last decade but now we have stepped up a gear, with a re-branded, full-service Performance Centre. This will allow us to enhance our customer service, extend our road car testing and provide a higher level of support to our racing customers.”

RACING LEGENDS RATE PROJECT 8: JAGUAR’S NEWEST STAR OF ROAD AND TRACK

Legendary Jaguar sports car racers Andy Wallace and Davy Jones joined the Special Vehicle Operations development team at Goodwood Motor Circuit last month, declaring the new Jaguar XE SV Project 8 “absolutely staggering” and “a winner” after testing it on the fast and demanding UK track.

British driver Andy Wallace won the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race in 1988 driving the Jaguar XJR-9 and was part of Jaguar’s victorious 1988 and 1991 World Sports Car Championship teams. The Goodwood test was the first time he’d driven the all-wheel-drive track-focused Project 8, which features a 600PS supercharged 5.0-litre V8 powertrain.

Andy Wallace said: “Most road-legal cars on track are a massive disappointment, but Project 8 is really something. It’s absolutely staggering how it has been made to feel like a proper racing car. It keeps wanting you to push harder. It’s not bothered by Goodwood’s undulations, it just hunkers down and feels totally at ease, so you’re happy to get on the throttle earlier. It inspires confidence straight away.”

Project 8 features an all-new Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB) system, incorporating the latest technology to deliver consistent pedal feel, fade resistance and longevity under the most demanding conditions. It also uses motorsport-grade Synthetic Racing Fluid (SRF).

Wallace said: “The brake pedal feel is fantastic. It is absolutely linear and you can feel what it’s doing. The steering too is brilliant. It feels like a car that’s developed after days and days, and hours and hours, of testing. You don’t just ‘luck’ something as good as this. Anybody can build a fast car. But to build a fast car that feels this good – that’s quite an achievement.”

American Davy Jones was also a member of both the 1988 and 1991 championship winning Jaguar teams. He won the Daytona 24 Hours in 1990 in an XJR-12 (with Andy Wallace), and finished second at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1991. He later went on to win Le Mans in 1996.

Davy Jones said: “I’m used to powerful racing cars. But this feels really fast. The sheer acceleration didn’t feel all that different from a 700bhp racing prototype – and that really surprised me. It’s certainly Jaguar’s best track car I’ve driven since the sports prototype Jaguars of the 1980s and 1990s.”

With world-class motorsport technology throughout, Project 8 has carbon fibre panels, adjustable aerodynamics, a unique suspension setup with adjustable ride height and camber, and is the first road car with F1-style ceramic wheel bearings. It’s also the first Jaguar with a dedicated Track Mode, which activates electronic calibration settings tailored to circuit use.

Jones said: “There is no body roll, loads of grip, the braking is incredible. When you turn into a corner, it points in, when you step on the accelerator it wants to launch out of the corner. It doesn’t do anything to spook you. It’s such an accessible car to drive. The [8-speed automatic] gear shifts are so precise and so quick too.”

The 200mph* road-legal Project 8 is the world’s fastest four-door sedan, having lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a record 7min 21.23sec. Final tests are planned for Portimão in Portugal, Motorland Aragón in Spain and Laguna Seca in California, USA. Hand-assembly of no more than 300 cars will begin at Special Vehicle Operations’ Technical Centre in June.

Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is available either as a four-seater or in lightweight two-seat Track Pack configuration (Track Pack is a market-dependent option at extra cost).

Project Neptune: Aston Martin and Triton

Aston Martin and Triton Submarines are pleased to announce the successful completion of the design phase for Project Neptune, and the commencement of the first production model ahead of its public unveiling later this year.

Since the announcement of the creative collaboration in September 2017, Aston Martin and Triton have worked meticulously to refine the detailed design of the submersible’s hydrodynamics, body styling and luxurious interior packaging. For a vehicle to wear the iconic Aston Martin wings, it must be equipped with all the performance, beauty and elegance one has come to expect from the British marque. To earn a signature trident, the submersible must be safe, reliable and offer its passengers near 360º visibility. The final design of the submersible is testament to the extraordinary attention to detail of both design teams and reflects the complimentary values of each company.

To mark this key milestone, Project Neptune’s final technical specification was announced today, confirming that the submersible will be able to dive to depths of 500 metres and carry two passengers and a pilot. By improving the hydrodynamic efficiency, reducing frontal area, and increasing the power; the submersible will have an anticipated sprint speed in excess of 5 knots and approximately four times the acceleration of Triton’s flagship 3300/3 model.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer commented: “The exterior design of Project Neptune owes a lot to the pursuit of performance. As with the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the hyper-car we are developing with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, we have afforded as much attention to the hydrodynamics of the underside as we have the visible surfaces. Some of that detail may never be seen, but its effect will certainly be felt.

“Project Neptune’s interior was a great challenge. Unlike a sports car where the interiors are installed into an open-sided cabin before the doors are fitted, everything you see inside will be lowered through the upper-hatch and assembled within the completed sphere of the pressure hull. We have been able to present a congruous aesthetic that defies its multi-part complex installation.”

John Ramsay, Chief Technical Officer at Triton Submarines, commented: “The work we have done together on the exterior of the submersible pleases me most. I’m particularly proud of our joint development of the acrylic canopy and iridium coating. The prototypes look incredible, being simultaneously functional and beautiful.

John added: “The interior is quintessentially Aston Martin – a luxurious mix of hand-stitched leather and high-performance carbon fibre, assembled without obstructing the panoramic sight-lines that Triton submersibles are famous for.”

A range of three Designer Specifications created by Aston Martin’s in-house design team demonstrate the breadth of expression available through considered combinations of colour and trim, each accentuating Project Neptune’s sporting, luxury and maritime characteristics. Customisation and personalisation options will be available courtesy of Aston Martin’s bespoke service, Q by Aston Martin.

Aston Martin and Triton Submarines will be welcoming prospective buyers to explore such possibilities at this week’s LYBRA Superyacht Show in Barcelona, Spain. Those wishing to secure one of the remaining build-slots for Project Neptune should contact either their preferred Aston Martin dealer or their nominated Triton Submarine’s representative.

An iconic name for the ultimate flagship – DBS is back

Aston Martin has today announced the re-birth of an iconic name. A distinctive moniker, set to be proudly worn once again by the British marque’s flagship Super GT.

DBS Superleggera

First coined for the iconic 1967 William Towns’ designed-model, the DBS nameplate has been a key part of the brand’s heritage for over 50 years. Resurrected in 2007 for Aston Martin’s then range-topping model, designed by current Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman.

The DBS Superleggera completes the brand’s ambitions to replace each of its existing two-door sportscar models as part of its Second Century Plan. Sitting at the pinnacle of the sportscar line-up, DBS Superleggera will feature the highest levels of performance, craftmanship and design.

Along with the resurrection of the DBS nameplate, Touring’s famous mark – Superleggera – will once again adorn the bonnet of an Aston Martin. A collaboration that helped pave the way to the DB4, 5 and 6 Mark 1, DBS will once again pay homage to the historic super lightweight construction technology of Touring. The name also provides a hint as to what can be expected of this upcoming model.

Marek Reichman said, “When you hear the name DBS Superleggera, you know what it is. It’s the definitive Aston Martin Super GT. It’s an icon, a statement and this one will be no different. We’ve pushed the boundaries of performance and design to give this car a distinct character and ensure it’s worthy of the heritage and weight that this name carries”.

Further details on Aston Martin’s highly-anticipated super GT will be revealed in the second quarter of 2018.

ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS ANNOUNCES THE “SILVER GHOST COLLECTION”

Rolls-Royce-Silver-Arab-Motor-World-01

One motor car changed the course of automotive history. Today, the legend is re-told as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly announces the creation of a collection of 35 model year 2018 Rolls-Royce Ghosts, created in homage to the original Silver Ghost’s achievement.

In 1904, a pioneering motorist, a brilliant entrepreneur and an intrepid engineer were united by a desire to succeed. Three years later, this success was recognised by the world’s media. An unfathomable challenge unprecedented of its time and legendary to this day, was completed by The Hon. Charles Rolls and Claude Johnson in Sir Henry Royce’s ‘Silver Ghost’. The car achieved a non-stop long distance endurance record of 14,371 miles. This challenge was to shape automotive and luxury history, creating a world-renowned benchmark for excellence in the process.

It was the twelfth 40/50hp chassis, completed with a Barker & Co 4/5 seater touring body, commissioned by Claude Johnson, then Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Limited that was quickly recognised for its ability to demonstrate the marque’s prowess. The ethereally quiet running of this extraordinary automobile and the silver paint with silver fittings, led Johnson to select this very car for high-profile competitive trials, bestowing the name, ‘Silver Ghost upon it.

In celebration of this extraordinary feat of engineering excellence, a special collection of model year 2018 Bespoke Ghosts will be created at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex. Thirty-five patrons of the marque will delight in a contemporary masterpiece of automotive history, as the Bespoke Collective of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars envisions the ‘Silver Ghost Collection’.

Speaking from the Home of Rolls-Royce, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “The extraordinary accomplishments of our marque’s founding fathers are honoured by the creation of this elegant ‘Silver Ghost Collection’. The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective masterfully weave the rich narrative of the original ‘Silver Ghost’ into just 35 motor cars, creating a contemporary homage to the original motor car. Today, our craftspeople and master artisans continue this legacy of excellence, creating unique motor cars that define luxury.”

The Rolls-Royce ‘Silver Ghost Collection’

Today, a Rolls-Royce motor car is the ultimate luxury, steeped in narrative, veiled in rarity. A Rolls-Royce Collection Car showcases the extraordinary talents of the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Design team; they are born collectables. These are future classics, destined for the lawns of the great international Concours d’Élégance.

Careful consideration has been paid to the defining features of this collection. References extoling the past are skilfully hand-crafted into Ghost’s interior and exterior, creating a contemporary homage which speaks as much of today’s great brand as the ‘Silver Ghost’ does of its day.

A solid sterling-silver Spirit of Ecstasy, the muse that has guided motor cars created by the marque since 1911, will hint at the pioneering heritage of this motor car’s forebear. A specially created Hallmark of AX201, the registration plate of the original ‘Silver Ghost’, will be marked on the base of each muse by the British Assay office, an honour reserved for few. Alongside the AX201 Hallmark, the Metal Fineness marks and the Assay Office town mark, a second unique ‘RR’ Hallmark, the eponymous badge of the marque, will act as the Sponsor’s Mark and authenticate its heritage.

A black-gold-plated collar enshrouds the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy, itself bearing the unique identity of this collection. An insert is crafted from hammered copper, in tribute to the copper extensively used in the engine bay of the original ‘Silver Ghost’. The copper, shaped, beaten and textured is engraved with the newly designed AX201 Hallmark.

Cassiopeia Silver, a complex Bespoke silver paint that incorporates both warm and cool tones, bathes the exterior of Ghost in a hue that echoes the silver paint of the original motor car. A Bespoke hand-painted coachline, applied by Rolls-Royce’s master coachline painter and taking eight hours to apply, is imbued with fine particles of 100% pure silver, adding to the provenance of this collection.

The face of the Model Year 2018 motor car is instantly recognisable as one of 35 in this collection. Black painted grille veins mimic the distinctive black grille of the ‘Silver Ghost’, while the fully-polished wheel centres encircled with ‘SILVER GHOST – SINCE 1907’ engraved on a Cassiopeia Silver backing, echo the fine details of the original car.

Rolls-Royce-Silver-Arab-Motor-World-03

On opening the coach doors, accents of a specially created ‘Forest Green’ leather provide a nod to the original interior colour scheme. A newly designed silver tipped leather makes its Rolls-Royce debut, being incorporated onto the front and rear door panniers. Additionally, a silver onlay has been set into the open pore wood of the fascia and door cappings, flanking a solid silver ingot, hallmarked to allow reflection of this motor car’s great lineage.

Further reference to the ‘Silver Ghost’ is made via the collection’s clock, styled as an ingot of silver, engraved with ‘Silver Ghost Since 1907’ and once again marked with the distinguishing hallmarks of this collection. A peened solid silver encasement provides a decorative surface, reminiscent of the original dials of the ‘Silver Ghost’.

The tread plates proudly authenticate each motor car, engraved with the words ‘Silver Ghost Collection – One of Thirty-Five’, while the Rolls-Royce umbrellas, stowed in the doors of each motor car, are edged in a silver-coloured binding and have an open-pore Tudor Oak handle, with the end of the handle engraved to demonstrate its unique origins.

A Bespoke central console allows the patron to convey personal accoutrements, accommodating contemporary touring. A time-piece, sunglasses and accessories case is presented alongside a ‘Silver Ghost’ pen, shaped as the speedform of the car; clean, modern and streamlined.

As a finishing touch and to complete the collection, a rare and collectable Silver Ghost Hamper will continue Rolls-Royce’s romantic notion of the pinnacle in al fresco dining, proudly displaying a fusion of Bespoke Design with the finest craftsmanship.

Rolls-Royce-Silver-Arab-Motor-World-04

2018 a new vintage year for Ghost

In addition to the beautiful Bespoke features enumerated above, the ‘Silver Ghost Collection’ also benefits from the several enhancements of the 2018 Rolls-Royce Ghost.

The most immediate of these is the bolder and more sculptured face of Ghost, reinforcing the decisive and dynamic character of Ghost. The grille frame is pushed further forward, producing a stronger sweep back into the front wings, to give the front of the car a more decisive character. More deeply set grille vanes underline the perception of power and dynamism, while the redesigned front bumper now features strongly horizontal lines. The perceived dynamism of the 2018 Ghost’s exterior is also enhanced by two completely new 21” wheel designs.

The owner’s enjoyment of Ghost’s cabin has also been enhanced through a suite of technological upgrades and acoustic advancements. Inspired by the acoustic engineering undertaken to make New Phantom ‘the most silent motor-car in the world’, the 2018 Ghost benefits from Rolls-Royce’s mantra to “take the best and make it better”, as it constantly strives for even the smallest improvements.

Rolls-Royce-Silver-Arab-Motor-World-05

Additional sound dampening materials have been added to the doors, rear wings and luggage compartment. Working in combination with a new acoustic film fitted between the glass layers in the side and rear windows to further reduce noise entering the cabin, the results are most impressive.

A quieter cabin sets the stage for the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce multimedia entertainment system. A totally new multimedia interface and larger screens for the rear passengers are only the start of the entertainment upgrades offered by Ghost this year. To add to the effortless experience, the new system now responds to natural speech rather than predetermined commands, whilst navigation is improved by the Real Time Traffic Information for 32 countries.

Entertainment and communication is also enhanced by Blue Ray; Digital Radio capability in more countries, including Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service for the United States market; a new ATM module linked to a 4G LTE standard antenna which will support significantly increased data transfer; enhanced USB and HDMI connections with the motor-car’s systems which also supports Miracast®, whilst three sets of Kleer headphones are supported over WiFi.

Bentley Veneer Hunters: Sustainable, Unique, Exquisite

Bentley-Bentayga-with-Liquid-Amber-Veneer-1--Arab-Motor-World

Bentley recently added its first new veneer in five years – Liquid Amber – to its collection. This is the luxury British brand’s seventh exclusive veneer, encapsulating its quest for the finest materials and catering to discerning customers in the Middle East and worldwide.

The fact that new veneers are an extremely rare occurrence in Bentley interiors is due to the extraordinary lengths that the brand’s team of expert veneer hunters go to in order to source the finest materials in the world.

Watch the new film documenting the journey the veneer hunters take to bring sustainable, unique and exquisite veneers to Bentley customers below

Bentley-adds-Liquid-Amber-Veneer-to-its-collection-2-Arab-Motor-World

Liquid Amber: A Stunning Contemporary Veneer

Liquid Amber is sourced from the American Red Gum – or American Sweet Gum tree – which grows along the rich, moist soils of the Mississippi wetlands in the south-eastern states of America.

The tree’s resin is called Liquid Amber – a reference to its perfumed scent. Bentley sources only the highest quality trees, and harvests the veneer just twice a year due to restricted access across the wetlands on which it grows.

The wood undergoes a natural smoking process, which takes several weeks, to give it a deep, rich brown lustre while maintaining the warm, red hue. The Liquid Amber veneer is then transported 4,500 miles back to the team of experts in the Bentley woodshop in Crewe, where it is examined alongside the six other carefully chosen veneers available exclusively to Bentley customers.

In Pursuit of Perfection – Sourcing the Finest Materials

The seven veneers Bentley offers, including eucalyptus and olive ash, are sourced by Bentley’s own veneer hunters, from countries as far apart as Canada and China.

Bentley only ever uses the finest materials, sourced from the very best species, for its cars. For example, it can take a full week to review 20,000 square metres of walnut material for the burr walnut veneer.

Bentley typically rejects between 30 and 70 percent of veneers offered and all materials must have a high-burr density, minimal sapwood and feature no bark growth or structural defects.

Each raw veneer is cut to a precise 0.6 mm layer, and each bundle of raw veneers must pass rigorous Bentley tests for stability in UV light and consistency from tree to tree. This process takes at least 18 months before the veneer is placed into a car.

Bentley-Liquid-Amber-Veneer--Arab-Motor-World

Beyond Veneer

Another new material that provides an individual statement of luxury is Bentley’s stone veneer. This innovative interior finish makes a luxurious, contemporary feature of a natural product formed over 200 million years.

The slate and quartzite stone is sustainably sourced from hand-selected quarries in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, India – a nation with an ancient and rich culture of stone masonry.

The sections of stone are split from larger pieces and cured using glass fibre and a bespoke resin. Finally, they are shaped and finished by hand by Bentley’s world-renowned Mulliner coachbuilding team at the company’s headquarters in Crewe, England.

Image-1-MG-RX5-Arab-Motor-World

The new MG RX5 compact SUV is now officially on sale across the Middle East, heralding the latest exciting chapter in the rejuvenation of the famous British brand. Customers can choose MG Motor’s new ‘hero SUV’ from a collection of four well-equipped models, and two available powertrains, with prices starting at around US$14,200 (depending on market).

The new MG RX5 will appeal to a range of customers across the region, especially younger buyers looking for value for money in a stylish, technologically-advanced package that allows them to stand out from the crowd. Equipped with a 1.5T petrol engine and 7-speed automatic gearbox the MG RX5 is available as entry level STD or mid-range COM models. The more powerful 2.0T powerplant is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and is offered for either COM or top-of-the-range LUX trim levels, with the latter featuring All-Wheel Drive.

Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Middle East, the parent company of MG Motor, said: “Embodying the positive, new direction that MG is taking, the new MG RX5 is the latest model to join our exciting range of stylish, hi-tech vehicles. As MG builds momentum across the Middle East, boosted by the appointment of new dealers in markets such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, we are confident that this new compact SUV will prove extremely popular among the region’s car buyers.”

The MG RX5 showcases an attractive, futuristic design that is instantly recognisable, notably at the front where the stylish square LED headlamps, imposing wing-shaped grille and innovative foglamps endow it with real on-the-road presence. Sporty five-spoke, two-tone 18” rims on COM and LUX models combine with a sharp waistline that rises from front to rear to enhance the dynamic look. At the rear, a chrome plate stretches out to the dual tail lights, visually extending the vehicle width – reminiscent of the style of certain premium German models.

Inside the cabin careful attention has been paid to delivering an extremely high quality finish, with the use of high grade material, chrome edging and soft-touch material covering 80% of the surfaces. A supersize, opening panoramic sunroof floods the interior with light, accentuating the best-in-class space that it offers. Helped by the 2700mm wheelbase, and total length of 4545mm, rear leg space (982mm) and head space (987mm) are significantly better than in rival cars.

MG’s new compact SUV delivers practicality and convenience. The flexible rear space incorporates adjustable, fold-flat seats with split/fold function, while there are multiple storage spaces throughout the cabin for bottles, mobiles and cups in addition to a large boot area. Useful technology offered as standard on most models includes remote, one-touch opening of the rear hatch, keyless entry, a start button and an AutoHold function.

Image-2-MG-RX5-Arab-Motor-World
Image-4-MG-RX5-Arab-Motor-World

A clever remote smart application will allow the driver to operate vehicle functions such as remote start and stop air conditioning, vehicle tracking and aftersales appointments. It even reminds owners of the services needed for the car. And for a hi-tech generation, there is a 10.4” high-definition infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Navigation on the COM and LUX versions and an 8” colour navigation system for STD models.

Power is derived from a choice of two turbocharged engines. Both 2.0T and 1.5T units, which are mated to six and seven-speed transmissions respectively, provide impressive performance and efficiency. Delivering maximum power of 221 hp and torque of 350 Nm, the 2.0T engine can accelerate the MG RX5 from 0-100kmh in 8.2 seconds, while the efficient 1.5T powerplant returns top figures of 169 hp and 250 Nm.  A smart All-Wheel Drive system with new generation electromagnetic torque management guarantees impressive off-road performance for LUX models.

Great performance isn’t compromised when it comes to safety, with the MG RX5 offering a wide range of passive and active safety measures. The efficient braking system reduces stopping distances by two metres in comparison to key rivals, while standard ESP with traction control, a curving braking control system and MSR (Motor control Slide Retainer) all contribute to a safer journey. Passive safety features include a strengthened body structure that uses thermal formed steel, multiple airbags, automatic unlocking in the event of a collision and a collapsible steering column. All of which has helped the MG RX5 earn a 5-star rating in the C-NCAP crash tests.

The entry level 1.5T STD exemplifies the comprehensive equipment levels of the MG line-up. Owners benefit from Automatic Air Conditioning, front and rear electric windows, cruise control, multi-adjustable front seats, and a remote trunk opening function as standard. When it comes to safety, ABS, EBD, Auto Hold, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Hill Descent Control are just some of the standard features to equip the high value 1.5T STD model.

The MG RX5 COM specification comes with either a 1.5T or 2.0T engine. All COM models add front foglamps, a rear parking camera and audible warning system, leather steering wheel and luggage curtain, to the list of features offered on the STD model. In addition, an 8” colour touch screen and Apple CarPlay are also standard.

Drivers of the top-of-the-range 2.0T LUX model are positively spoilt, with electric folding wing mirrors, LED headlamps, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, additional airbags, an auto-dimming rear view mirror and a huge panoramic sunroof with anti-trap mechanism all standard. As is MG’s smart All-Wheel Drive system.

The NOVITEC front spoiler lends the 570S Spider an even more distinctive and athletic front: The refined looks are accompanied by maximum aerodynamic efficiency: The shape of the carbon component was optimized in the wind tunnel to reduce front-axle lift at high speeds. The NOVITEC rear spoiler was designed to elevate the handling stability even further. Its contours were adapted precisely to the sweeping rear end of the vehicle.

NOVITEC carbon rocker panels, which lend the British sports car a longer and lower visual stance, upgrade the sides of the 570S Spider. In addition, the transition between the front and rear wheel arches now looks even more homogeneous. The aerodynamic finishing touches à la NOVITEC also include carbon covers that were tailored-made for the air intakes on both sides of the vehicle. They route the air even more precisely into the air intakes behind the two doors, which supply the engine with combustion and cooling air.

The sporty NOVITEC appearance package is rounded out by carbon covers for the sides of the rear bumper.

The hi-tech forged wheels specifically developed for the 570 models are just as elementary for the thrilling NOVITEC looks of the open-top McLaren. They are mounted in a staggered combination featuring 20-inch wheels on the front axle and 21-inch wheels at the rear. Thanks to their different diameters, they emphasize the wedge shape of the mid-engine sports car visually.

As a result of their design featuring five delicate double spokes and being produced using state-of-the-art forging technology, these wheels are extremely light for their king-sized format. The 9Jx20 front wheels with size 235/30 ZR 20 high-performance tires make full use of the available space under the wheel arches, as do the 11Jx21 rims on the rear axle, which are fitted with size 305/30 ZR 21 tires.

In addition to further enhancing the looks of the Spider thanks to the ride-height lowering by about 30 millimeters, the NOVITEC sport springs also make the handling more direct.

Upgraded in this way, the open-top McLaren is also perfectly prepared for more power. The NOVITEC engine specialists therefore developed three different performance kits for the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that powers all versions of the 570 model series. The special feature of this engine tuning is that the driver is able to activate or deactivate it at any time on the ‘Active Dynamic Panel.’ When needed, the two plug-and-play NOVITEC N-TRONIC modules adapted to the electronic engine control unit of the vehicle provide injection, ignition and boost pressure control with new mapping in a matter of seconds.

The maximum performance level, which is installed in combination with a NOVITEC RACE high-performance exhaust system, produces an additional 56 kW / 76 hp of peak power. At the same time, the engine develops 92 Nm more torque. With an output of 475 kW / 646 hp at 7,450 rpm and a peak torque of 692 Nm at 6,250 rpm, the open-top two-seater delivers further improved driving dynamics: From rest, the tuned 570S Spider storms to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds. The top speed increases to 335 km/h. However, the NOVITEC performance upgrade offers more than just improved road performance: It also makes the throttle response even more instantaneous. In addition, the power and torque curve is even more potent across the entire rev range.

With or without engine tuning: A NOVITEC high-performance exhaust system always delivers better sound and performance. In addition, these exhaust systems feature full thermal insulation, which significantly improves the heat transfer in the engine bay. Precision-tailored NOVITEC exhaust systems in different variants made from stainless steel or the even lighter INCONEL material used in Formula One racing are available for all McLaren 570 models. The looks of the two slanted tailpipes on the left and right were adapted perfectly to the contours of the rear end. In addition, the NOVITEC product range comprises lighter and more efficient sports catalysts.

NOVITEC also offers refinement at the highest levels of customization and quality for the interior of all McLaren automobiles. The company transforms the finest leathers and Alcantara in a virtually endless range of colors into the sports car owner’s personal dream cockpit.

Double clutch transmission in the MINI: faster gearshifts for increased driving fun

Mini-7-speed-steptro-Arab-Motor-World-00

The British premium automobile manufacturer MINI highlights the sporty character of its current models in the small segment with a new type of transmission. Extremely fast gear changes, a high degree of shift comfort and optimized efficiency – these are the benefits of the 7-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with double clutch, available for the MINI 3 door, the MINI 5 door and the MINI Convertible. It is offered in conjunction with selected engine types and as an alternative to the standard 6-speed manual transmission. The new double clutch transmission provides impressive shift dynamics for enhanced driving fun while at the same including all the comfort features of an automatic transmission.

The double clutch transmission is operated by means of a newly designed electronic selector lever which always returns to its original position after changing between driving mode D, neutral position N and reverse mode. The parking lock is activated by pressing the P button. S mode can be activated from position D by shifting the selector lever to the left: this supports a particularly sporty driving style as well as allowing manual intervention in the choice of position.

The increase in drive positions as compared to the 6-speed manual transmission benefits both sporty flair and ride comfort. The seven gears of the double clutch transmission enable a broader spread of gears, thereby reducing the differences in engine speed between the various drive positions. This applies to automated shifts in D and S modes as well as to manual interventions in the selection of drive positions in M mode. In S mode the gearshifts occur at increased engine speeds and with further increased shift dynamics. In S mode, the driver can also spontaneously switch to manual shifting.

In automated mode, driving fun can also be enhanced by linking the transmission control to the optional MINI navigation system. The double clutch transmission control unit is then able to draw on navigation data to adapt its shift strategy to the given situation on the road. When approaching a sharp bend or junction, for example, a downshift is made early on so as to be able to make use of the engine braking effect for deceleration purposes. When passing through two bends in quick succession, the drive position engaged after downshifting is maintained so as to avoid any unnecessary shifting and ensure the ideal gear is available for powerful acceleration on exiting the bend.

Like a conventional converter system, the double clutch transmission also offers a crawl function that enables smooth set-off without activating the accelerator, thereby increasing comfort when manoeuvring or in stop-and-go traffic.
