Six meticulous features that distinguish the all-new, three-row Cadillac XT6

Attention to detail is the mark of a luxury experience, so the 2020 Cadillac XT6 has been carefully curated to offer a refined ride and comfortable interior that elevate every drive.

“The interior environment is about simplicity, with an execution of premium materials,” said Andrew Smith, executive director, Cadillac Design. “We want the customer to focus on the experience —making each journey extraordinary.”

Some of design details in the XT6 are front and center, such as the exotic wood decor on the Premium Luxury model and the precision weave in the carbon fiber trim on the XT6 Sport model. Premium French seaming appears throughout the cabin, and perforations in the available ventilated front seats echo the shape of the Cadillac crest.

Finer details are woven into the fabric of the XT6’s functionality. They blend thoughtful design and clever engineering solutions to amplify the vehicle’s refinement, flexibility and comfort.

“The Cadillac XT6’s thoughtful details reveal themselves the longer you live with the car,” said John Plonka, XT6 chief engineer. “Our goal is to anticipate our customer’s needs for a refined, engaging ride, matched with an interior experience that provides a place of rejuvenation, connectivity and adaptability in all three rows.”

  1. A Dimensional Design That Foils Wear

A vehicle’s grille is literally and figuratively on the front line when it comes to appearance and wear. The XT6 Premium Luxury model stands up to tough road conditions with a bright grille finish created with a premium hot foil stamping process. The dimensional, foil-based finish is treated with a protective coating to make it more durable and easier to clean

Cadillac XT4 Delivers Dynamic Driving Experience

Cadillac XT4 Dynamic Driving - Arab-Motor-World

First-ever Cadillac XT4 leverages the brand’s legacy of technology leadership to reward drivers and passengers with a responsive and refined driving experience.

“The new Cadillac XT4 brings a new vitality to Cadillac, in one of the industry’s fastest-growing segments,” said Steve Carlisle, Cadillac president. “It pairs the agility of our award-winning sports sedans with a youthful SUV character.”

A new turbocharged propulsion system and an available Active Sport Suspension with Continuous Damping Control and precise, electronically calibrated steering, plus an available twin-clutch AWD system coalesce in the Cadillac XT4 to offer a dynamic blend of performance and comfort.

“The propulsion elements, chassis system and extensive tuning work in harmony to make the Cadillac XT4 a joy to drive,” said Todd Pawlik, chief engineer. “It offers all the versatility you want in an SUV, while answering the driver’s inputs with both immediacy and comfort.”

All Cadillac XT4 models are driven by an all-new 2.0L Turbo engine that’s engineered with industry-leading valvetrain technology to deliver efficient performance, with strong power on demand at all speeds.

The engine is rated at an SAE-certified 237 horsepower (177 kW) and 258 lb-ft of torque (350 Nm) and an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway (FWD models) for a balance of performance and efficiency that ranks among the top of the compact luxury SUV segment.

“The advantage of turbocharging is power when you need it and efficiency when you don’t,” said Kris Keary, 2.0L turbo assistant chief engineer. “In the Cadillac XT4, it translates as confident performance in all scenarios.”

An innovative double-overhead-cam tripower valvetrain complements the turbocharging system and is at the heart of the engine’s balanced performance, enabling different valve lift heights and Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) across the rpm band.

The valvetrain system provides three operating modes depending on driving conditions:

  1. High valve lift for maximum power.
  2. Low valve lift for a greater balance of power and efficiency.
  3. Active Fuel Management that disables two of the cylinders in light load conditions to further conserve fuel.

A unique camshaft design works with electromagnetic actuators that shift a moveable shaft with different cam lobes. As the driver’s input changes, the lobes shift imperceptibly between the three operating modes.

“The unique valvetrain design complements the turbocharging system to make the most of the engine’s available power at all speeds,” said Keary. “It’s a seamless integration of technologies that drivers experience as satisfying, confident performance throughout the entire engine operating range.”

Additional technologies contribute to the direct-injected Cadillac 2.0L Turbo’s balance of performance and efficiency, including:

  • The dual-scroll turbocharger is designed to enhance low-speed torque delivery, with exceptional responsiveness. Peak torque is available between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm.
  • Active Thermal Management uses targeted engine cooling to improve engine performance. Benefits include faster passenger cabin warm-up in hot and cold ambient temperatures as well as increased efficiency.
  • An efficiency-enhancing electric water pump eliminates the drag of a conventional, engine-driven pump. It also enables continual cabin heating, even when the engine is off during a stop/start event.
  • The design of the integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head helps recover exhaust heat for faster engine and transmission warm-up and quicker turbo response.
  • Stop/start technology automatically stops the engine in stop-and-go traffic under certain conditions to reduce fuel consumption. This feature can be deactivated by the driver at startup.

The new Cadillac 2.0L Turbo is coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission with next-generation Electronic Precision Shift.

Transmission Hydra-Matic 9 speed automatic
Cadillac XT4 Dynamic Driving - Arab-Motor-World

An all-new, compact SUV architecture is the foundation for the Cadillac XT4’s agile driving dynamics, channeling the performance of the propulsion system into a sporty, refined experience.

Robust, stiff and comparatively lightweight, thanks in large part to the incorporation of press-hardened, high-strength steel, the chassis’ strength enables an exceptionally high degree of suspension tuning that enhances driver feedback and the overall feeling of solidity.

Steering is a fundamental contributor to the Cadillac XT4’s sporty, nimble driving dynamics, and its variable-assist electric system connects with a solid-mounted front cradle and a lateral cross brace that add stiffness to the vehicle structure. It provides a firmer foundation for the steering system that, in turn, reduces the vehicle motions when the steering wheel is turned, for a more direct feel.

“The steering system’s immediate responses to inputs offer a greater feel of connection to the road,” said Pawlik. “It’s an attribute that enhances the driver’s confidence behind the wheel and gives the Cadillac XT4 a sporty character.”

The XT4 also features a Cadillac-first tuned vibration absorber integrated into the airbag behind the steering wheel. It is designed to help mitigate road and propulsion system vibrations that can make their way up the steering column.

While designs on other vehicles may add additional weight to the steering wheel to help with vibrations, the innovative XT4 solution tunes the existing rubber mounts of the airbag itself to accomplish the task. It also helps provide a more comfortable feel for the steering wheel and enhances the driver’s perception of structural solidity for the entire vehicle.

Additional chassis system highlights include:

  • Rebound springs used with the MacPherson strut front suspension enable more refined calibration of the struts for enhanced body roll control and weight transfer during acceleration. That helps keep the wheels planted, contributing to the Cadillac XT4’s feeling of control, especially when cornering at higher speeds.
  • A five-link rear independent suspension is mounted on a fully isolated rear cradle system that effectively dampens road noise at the rear of vehicle, where SUVs are traditionally sensitive to noise because of their open cargo areas.
  • Custom-developed, all-new Continental all-season tires are designed to balance overall grip, handling, braking and quietness. More than a year was spent refining the compound and tread design of the standard 18-inch and available 20-inch tires.

XT4 Sport models offer the sophisticated Active Sport Suspension with Continuous Damping Control (CDC), which delivers the XT4’s highest levels of ride control and isolation as well as enhanced stability.

CDC is an active suspension system that provides variable damping for the MacPherson strut front suspension and five-link independent rear suspension. It uses sensors to monitor road and vehicle inputs, adjusting damping for each wheel 500 times per second.

On smoother roads, CDC automatically adjusts to the softest setting to provide greater isolation and ride comfort. On more varied roads and during spirited driving maneuvers, the system adjusts the vehicle’s roll, pitch and vertical motions to maintain superior levels of handling and stability.

“XT4’s available CDC takes the XT4’s driving dynamics and control to a higher threshold,” said Pawlik. “It is the ultimate in ride control and refinement for this all-new SUV.”

The Cadillac XT4 is the first Cadillac model to incorporate the state-of-the-art, electro-hydraulically controlled braking system.

This electro-hydraulic system replaces the conventional vacuum-based power assist design with a compact electric motor and offers on-demand braking power for more efficient braking performance. It also contributes to the XT4’s overall fuel efficiency by reducing parasitic demands on the engine.

Additional benefits of the system include brake fade assistance in demanding conditions, such as descending steep grades, and panic-braking assistance provides greater braking pressure in emergency conditions.

“Along with all its efficiency and performance benefits, the pedal feel is firm and confidence-inspiring,” said Pawlik. “That means drivers get a more direct, responsive feel in all types of braking conditions.”

The XT4’s available twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system improves traction and vehicle control, whether the road is dry, wet, snowy or icy. And with the standard Driver Mode Select system, it can be decoupled entirely from the rear axle to enhance efficiency.

The AWD system’s design independently controls torque to each rear wheel, based on road conditions, offering superior driving control.  It enhances dry-road handling and cornering, while offering excellent performance in wet, muddy, snowy and icy conditions.

In inclement conditions, the system can reduce torque to a wheel where slip is detected, diverting it to a wheel with greater traction. On dry roads, it provides additional control around curves by sending torque to the outside wheel instead of the inside wheel that is experiencing more traction-enhancing downward force.

Ten facts that distinguish the Escalade’s innovative 10-speed transmission

Engineers for the 2018 Cadillac Escalade ’s new 10-speed automatic transmission have built on the experience of the previously critically acclaimed Hydra-Matic multispeed transmissions to push its performance, refinement and efficiency advantages to a new threshold. The 10-speed automatic transmission is an all-new design – and the first-ever application in an SUV – with a wider, 7.39 overall gear ratio spread, that enables the Escalade’s powerful and efficient 6.2L V-8 engine to achieve a more immediate feeling of performance.

The Escalade has long defined spacious luxury driving with its modern design, powerful capability and lavish amenities that keep luxury firmly in the driver’s seat. The premium Cadillac experience is further enhanced with the unique performance for one of the world’s best dual-clutch transmissions, providing quick, smooth shifts and proving an upgrade in its road manner.

“Customers have often looked up to the Cadillac’s flagship Escalade as setting the standard for big-size luxury SUVs, especially given the high reputation it holds when it comes to versatility and premium styling. The 2018 Escalade is redefining luxury through prevailing powertrain, sophisticated cabin and cutting-edge technologies that is exceptionally emphasized through the new 10-speed transmission, dominating any direct comparisons.”

Developed by General Motors and applied on Cadillac’s full-size premium SUV, the 10-speed has four simple gear sets and six clutches: two brake clutches and four rotating clutches. That’s only one more clutch than the previous eight-speed, despite having two more forward gears, contributing further to the compact packaging, while also improving spin losses to enhance fuel efficiency.

Here are the top ten facts that make the 10-speed transmission on the 2018 Cadillac Escalade stand out.

  1. Improved efficiency

With the update of the wider overall ratio spread, the new 10-speed transmission enables a lower numerical top gear ratio – an attribute that reduces engine speed on the highway.

  1. Quicker shifts for better performance

Coupled with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, rated at an SAE-certified 420 horsepower, the 10L80’s quick shifts help the Escalade’s engine achieve a more immediate feeling of performance, as the perfect gear is available whenever the driver tips into the engine’s power reserve.

  1. Precise and smooth shift feel

Shorter steps between gears and proprietary controls provide a quick, seamless shifting experience for the Escalade driver. Thus, making the new transmission more efficient in each of its gears than the six- and eight-speed transmissions it replaces.

  1. Fuel efficiency

The wider overall ratio enables a lower numerical top gear ratio, thus, contributing greater fuel efficiency in comparison to the eight-speed transmission. The 10-speed automatic has lower friction that also adds to greater fuel efficiency.

  1. Same size, double the power

With so much power packed into the 10–speed transmission, it may come as a surprise that there is no significant increase in the size. The 10-speed is approximately the same size as the six- and eight-speed transmissions, minimizing changes to vehicle interfaces.

  1. Hydraulic pumps: redefined

As the clutches in an automatic transmission are hydraulically actuated and controlled, the new 10-speed transmission relies on two special pumps to provide the necessary hydraulic muscle. Hydraulically controlled and stimulated, the clutches are part of an automatic transmission that relies on two pumps that work to efficiently produce the hydraulics needed.

  1. Reduced spin losses

Friction-reducing design features, including all-new ultra-low viscosity transmission fluid, internal thermal bypass, minimal number of non-applied clutches and other lower mechanical spin losses, contribute to the 10-speed’s effect on improved vehicle efficiency.

  1. Transmission fluidity

The new 10-speed transmission enables the fluid to reach a viscosity of 4.5 centistokes, thus, significantly reducing friction and the workload for the hydraulic pumps.

  1. Wider gear ratio speed

The 2018 Cadillac Escalade has a wide spread of ratios between the first and the tenth gear. The increase in size of the gear to 7.3 allows for a smoother run and allows the car to stay in the selected gear for longer when driving on the highway.

  1. GM control system

World-class shift time quickness and responsiveness are accomplished by leveraging the base transmission hardware in concert with GM exclusively developed algorithms, software and calibrations. An externally mounted electronic control module executes millions of controls instructions every second.

Highlighted by a powerful and efficient engine enhanced with the new standard 10-speed transmission, the 2018 Escalade’s performance is channeled to a sophisticated chassis and suspension system, engineered for a great feeling of solidity and a smooth, quiet ride. Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s fastest-reacting suspension system, is also a standard feature on the 2018 Escalade, contributing to a precisely controlled driving performance.

Cadillac Introduces First-Ever Twin-Turbo V-8 Engine

Cadillac-CT6-V-Sport Twin Turbo V-8 Engine

Sophisticated, all-new 4.2L Twin Turbo V-8 Engine is at the heart of new CT6 V-Sport exemplary performance

Cadillac begins a new chapter in its high-performance legacy with the introduction of the brand’s first-ever twin turbo V-8 engine. Set to be available in the Middle East by 2019, the new engine will be the centerpiece of the new CT6 V-Sport, an engaging sports sedan infused with DNA of Cadillac’s world-renowned motorsports program.

Developed as a small-displacement V-8 in the classic vein and offering exceptional power density of 131 hp (98 kW) per liter, this new Cadillac-exclusive 4.2L Twin Turbo V-8 Engine — GM estimated at 550 horsepower (410 kW) and 627 lb-ft of torque (850 Nm) — elevates the CT6’s performance to a new plateau and offers drivers an unparalleled experience behind the wheel.  An optional 500-horsepower version will also be available.

“With the new and exclusive 4.2L Twin Turbo V-8 Engine, we present to our Middle East customers a new, higher level driving experience, one that’s even more exhilarating than what they usually expect to get from Cadillac,” said Christian Soemmer, Managing Director, Cadillac Middle East. “Since the launch of our first V-series model in the region, we have received great feedback from our customers, confirming their interest in high-performance cars and felt their enthusiasm for a high-adrenaline driving experience which embodies Cadillac performance on and off the racetrack.”

The new Cadillac Twin Turbo V-8 Engine is a clean-sheet design that also introduces unique design elements developed to balance performance and efficiency with compact, mass-efficient packaging.

At the center of the 4.2L Twin Turbo V-8 Engine is a “hot V” configuration that transposes the conventional layout of the cylinder heads’ intake and exhaust systems to mount the turbochargers at the top of the engine to virtually eliminate turbo lag and reduce the engine’s overall packaging size.

The new engine’s foundation is an all-new, durable and lightweight aluminum cylinder block that houses an equally robust, lightweight rotating assembly composed of a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and high-strength aluminum pistons.

Its comparatively small-bore dimension enables the reduction in the size and weight of the pistons, optimizing the engine’s geometry to match the fast-rev capability permitted by the engine’s low-inertia, twin-scroll turbochargers. The result is exceptional responsiveness and immediacy of power across the rpm band.

The turbos’ twin-scroll design broadens their performance capability, offering quicker response and greater efficiency. The twin-scroll design has a divided housing with two exhaust gas inlets and two nozzles to drive the turbine. Generally, one of the nozzles contributes to quicker response and boost production, while the other contributes to overall peak performance.

Each of the engine’s integrated exhaust manifolds/turbocharger housings splits the exhaust channels from the cylinder head so the exhaust flows through separate scrolls based on the engine’s exhaust pulses. When matched with precise valve timing, that separation leverages exhaust-scavenging techniques to optimize gas flow, improves turbine efficiency and reduces turbo lag.

An efficient water-to-air charge-cooling system contributes to the engine’s performance, enhancing the turbochargers’ effectiveness, through an optimal combustion and more power.

The new Cadillac Twin Turbo V-8 Engine is matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Its wide, 7.39 overall gear ratio spread enhances off-the-line performance and contributes to reduced engine speed on the highway, which enhances refinement and efficiency. Smaller steps between the gears also help the engine maintain the optimal speed for maximum power at almost all vehicle speeds.

Cadillac bolsters connections with artists and designers in the Middle East

Cadillac has teamed up with some of the Middle East’s leading fashionistas and artists as it expands its support for the region’s burgeoning arts and design industry. The launch of this exciting new collaboration reflects the success of its ‘Dare Greatly’ brand ethos and is designed to showcase the bold and edgy design of the premium car brand’s model line-up.

Where last year’s Arabs of New York campaign focused on the entrepreneurial spirit of Arabs living in the US, Cadillac Middle East’s latest initiative has its roots very firmly fixed in the region. Five individuals who represent the brand’s design belief and philosophy will feature in a series of short films that showcase how they use design and style to express themselves. Each film will also show off a different Cadillac model that integrates the brand’s new design DNA.

“In 2015 Cadillac initiated a program to revitalize the brand, we didn’t want to just adopt this direction, but adapt it to be more locally relevant and celebrate what the Middle East has to offer in both art and design. When we co-create content we choose people and activations that resemble our thinking and direction like Sole DXB or any of the talent appearing in any of the content we produce.”  commented Nadim Ghrayeb, Cadillac Middle East’s Head of Marketing

A celebrated collector of sneakers and self-confessed fashion lover, Kuwait-based Tareq Q, better known as KicksTQ, is joined by two UAE-based personalities: fashion influencer Dana Hourani and singer and song writer Basil Al Hadi, who fronts the Arabic Reggae band, Karrouhat. The group is completed by two Beirut residents: fashion designer Lara Khoury and lead singer of the rock band “The Wanton Bishops”, Nader Mansour.

The new campaign is the latest in as series of strategic partnerships that stem from the brand’s passion for design. Complementing the original Arabs of New York campaign, Cadillac Middle East earlier this year teamed up with renowned New York-based photographer and filmmaker Khalik to co-create and present a unique exhibition at the Gulf Photo Plus (GPP) Photo Week, for which it was also Presenting Sponsor.
