2018 XTS arrives in the Middle East featuring Cadillac’s new generation of design and technology

Cadillac has announced the Middle East arrival of the redesigned 2018 XTS, the brand’s spacious and comfortable sedan with confident handling and performance. For 2018, the XTS receives technical, chassis and appearance changes to heighten the appeal of this elegant sedan.

With the enhanced next-generation Cadillac user experience, the XTS now offers a dynamic platform that can be adjusted over time to meet a customer’s evolving connectivity needs.

The updated chassis has revised tire designs for both 19 and 20-inch tires—improving ride comfort while reducing outside noise for a quieter and more comfortable cabin. Drivers will find front-seat luxury much more comfortable thanks to changes to seat foam geometry, wire frame structure and heat pad redesign. An increased use of engineered sound insulators (to reduce exterior noise) lessens cabin sound to create an even more serene environment.

Soemmer continued, “With sophisticated exterior looks, an intelligently designed cabin and dynamic performance capabilities, the 2018 XTS is a truly refined experience.”

New exterior styling features freshened front and rear fascias, updated interior color and trim choices – including a Platinum-exclusive Maple Sugar with Jet Black environment – and new alloy wheel options highlight the updates to the XTS. The appearance change includes new fenders, front and rear fascias, grille, and the addition of LED headlights and taillamp in keeping with today’s portfolio. It also brings the overall length of the car to 5,103 mm (28 mm shorter than the 2017 model).

Like the exterior, the XTS’s cabin features authentic cut-and-sewn materials and an artistic integration of technology.

The XTS Platinum V-Sport is also available and takes performance to a higher level, driven by an exclusive twin-turbo engine and all-wheel drive. Platinum V-Sport models also feature a leather-wrapped interior with microfiber suede headliner, as well as premium wood trim on the steering wheel, console, center stack, instrument panel and door panels.

The Cadillac Twin-Turbo 3.6L V-6 headlines the XTS’s powertrain lineup and is standard on V-Sport model, delivering SAE-certified 410 horsepower (306 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft of torque) – making it one of the most power-dense six-cylinder engines in the segment. The XTS’s standard 3.6L V-6 is rated at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 355 Nm of torque (264 lb-ft). Lightweight features help reduce overall weight for greater efficiency and a more favorable front-to-rear weight balance. The engines are matched with six-speed automatic transmissions with tap-shift control.

Standard and available features across the lineup include:

  • Standard advanced all-wheel-drive system with electronically controlled limited-slip differential

When it comes to trunk space, the XTS is in a league of its own, with 509 L (18 cubic feet), exceeding both midsize and full-size competitors. the cargo advantage means room for five or more suitcases.

During our visit to Dubai International Motor Show this year, we have visited the Jaguar Land Rover stand and were stunned with the amount of new vehicles released for our market. For that purpose, we sat with Mr. John Edwards Managing Director, Special Operations Division from Jaguar Land Rover to explain the strategy set for the upcoming few years.

As MD of the SVO division at JLR, what’s coming in this year and what about future projects?

As you have seen today, we have two global debuts and one regional launch. Let’s start with the main attraction the Project 8. We like to call it the crazy car, it all started after Project 7, we were thinking what’s next? Someone at the division came up with the crazy idea to put our most powerful engine into our most lightweight platform and so the Project 8 was born. It is a car designed and engineered by petrol heads for the petrol heads. Project 8 is a track car with 200 MPH as top speed but we wanted a track car more than a straight line racing car and that meant lots of upgrades on the skin as well under it…
Project 8 is an exclusive car that will be produced in 300 unites only. We also have on the stand two global premieres: the Range Rover Sport SVR with carbon fiber bonnet and the SVAutobiography Dynamic with refined luxury. Both vehicles have improved performance and are positioned as a limited edition. Our operations as SVO division have a vision to build unique and distinctive vehicles that really stand out and make a bold statement while maintaining and improving the vehicle in terms of performance and luxury. This our business: Personalization is a form of luxury.
We have also coming up the Discovery SVX which is built on an already very sophisticated vehicle and we are taking it even further.
There are at least two major launches coming soon, we are busy and we are growing and you have to wait to see what’s coming.

To get a better insight on the JLR in our region, we also got the chance to sit down with Salman Sultan Regional PR and Social Media Manager at Jaguar Land Rover and this is what he has to say.

Where does JLR stands today on the regional level?

Well, we brought several global and regional premieres this year at the Dubai International Motor Show as mentioned earlier by John. Our region has the highest market share for SVR sales in the world specifically in GCC, the evoque in Morocco has the biggest market share among JLR brands in the middle east and number 2 is Lebanon and the Velar is sold out till June 2018, thus JLR gives high importance to our market. The E-Pace is here as regional premiere and the XF Sportbrake also which is set for the UAE and KSA as pilot markets and will be followed by XF Sportbrake R ad XF Sportbrake S. Moreover, Project 8 which is produced in limited edition is also part of the regional strategy, we have already sold 25 units in the region which is a great accomplishment and shows our region’s high interest in the SVO products.

What is JLR strategy in KSA after the royal decree allowing women to drive there?

We have been selling cars for women around the world and KSA is no different. Women in KSA have been buying cars for long time, the change now will be: do I buy a car that is Chauffeur driven or self-driven? To us at JLR we see this in two axes: the first one is the increase in sales especially that our lineup allows the change in buying mentality and the 2nd axe is to empower women to move more into the working field of the automotive industry and we are working hard with our partners to enable that option in KSA. I think this is a great opportunity not only in sales but as an improvement for the whole automotive industry.

FCA Executives Round Table Discussion

If you have visited Dubai International Motor Show this year, you can clearly notice the increasing lineup of the FCA products especially with Alfa Romeo and Jeep.

For this occasion, we got the chance to have a roundtable discussion with executives from both brands Alfa Romeo and Jeep.

Our morning discussion started with Alfa Romeo Brand Head EMEA Ms. Roberta Zerbi, our interest in Alfa Romeo was clearly about the noticeable increase in product lineup and also the Stelvio Quadrifoglio impressive numbers.

Ms. Roberta commented: A hundred years of history contributed to the unmistakable style that has always marked the Alfa-Romeo lineup. The Giulia and Stelvio are the result of this legacy and these two models are the Gems with which Alfa-Romeo is planning to take on the competition. Following the release of the standard versions of the Giulia and the Stelvio, the Dubai Motor Show was the opportunity where the Stelvio and Giulia were presented in the Quadrifoglio version on a worldwide basis. The aim is to allow everyday drivers and any person behind the wheel to have the opportunity to experience the pleasure of the Quadrifoglio legacy in racing all without losing the sense of safety and the ability to be in control.

As for the Alfa Romeo move forward strategy, commercial schemes are being built to ensure that a good experience is delivered to customers when buying the car; One of the key features in providing a good experience for prospect buyers is to offer an opportunity for a test drive. The brand’s mantra is to allow as many people to drive the car as possible, primarily through the network of distributors and also through on track events to allow prospect clients to get a grasp of the true feeling of the sporty nature of the car. The plan for Alfa Romeo rebirth is confirmed and goes through a number of new launches and initiatives, and an array of new additions to the lineup and new technologies.

After this morning brief on Alfa Romeo, we step into the world of Jeep with Mr. Dante Zilli Brand head of EMEA.

Jeep has been going through lots of changes and lots of new entries out of which was on display at Dubai Motor Show: The New Jeep Compass and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk among others, and this is where the discussion was heading.

Dante commented that Jeep, over the past few years, is growing in lineup and in numbers. The new additions of Renegade a few years back and now the Compass is setting the direction where Jeep is going worldwide and in the region. Despite the fact that the market is going down, Jeep sales have increased by 19% in the last year and we are expecting more in 2018 with the All-New Compass.

We have revamped some products and introduced new products and will continue to do so to complete the Jeep lineup.  To start with the Compass, it is a completely new car compared to the previous generation, the Compass has the Jeep spirit and design combined with its off-roading capabilities, new technology, comfort and most of all the Compass is a no compromise car that is pretty much above all competitors from the same segment. On top of the Compass, the Trackhawk is something to talk about so if you are looking for performance in the SUV segment The Trackhawk is there to satisfy the need. The Trackhawk is actually on display at the Dubai Motor Show first time outside the US as we believe these two newly introduced vehicles will have a great impact on Jeep’s regional and worldwide sales figures for 2018.

As for the New Wrangler JL, Dante Commented when asked: you will see it at the LA Auto Show in the upcoming weeks, it was a challenge to replace the Icon of the brand but you will be surprised, also we are working on several new future releases that will complete the Jeep lineup as mentioned so stay tuned.

Alfa Romeo at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show

The Alfa Romeo brand is one of the undisputed stars of the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, displaying the cars that best personify the brand’s new standards – exquisite expressions of “engineering for the emotions” and Alfa Romeo’s sporty DNA.

Visitors to the show have the ideal opportunity to admire the best in Italian car design and construction – the spotlight will be on Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the brand’s first SUV, a blend of a thrilling driving experience, supreme performances and sporty style. Excellent performance, while still protecting the environment: Giulia Quadrifoglio is also best in class where emissions are concerned, with 189 g/km of CO2. The Jeep® brand at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show

The Jeep® brand is showcasing three major new models plus two special editions at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show. Jeep Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever – takes the spotlight, with two premières for the EMEA region; the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk – the most powerful and quickest SUV ever – powered by a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that delivers 707 horsepower (as per SAE testing methodology) and the Grand Cherokee 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, a celebration of the model that has defined the premium SUV market since its launch in 1992.  

The all-new Jeep Compass – the most capable compact SUV – is being shown for the first time at a Middle East Motor Show, and the top of the line Trailhawk and Limited trims, in Spitfire Orange and Tri-coat Pearl White exteriors respectively, are on display. Both are powered by 172 horsepower, 2.4-litre Tigershark engines linked to 9-speed automatic transmissions.

Two special edition models of the iconic Jeep Wrangler are also making their regional debut in Dubai; the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Freedom Edition – available exclusively in the Middle East, and on display with a Firecracker Red exterior, and the Wrangler Rubicon Recon in Billet Silver with special Mopar® exterior customization. Both are equipped with 284 horsepower, 3.6-litre engines and 5-speed automatic transmissions.

Last but not least, Jeep is also displaying the 272 horsepower, 3.2-litre Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with 9-speed automatic transmission and a Granite Crystal exterior, plus the 180 horsepower, 2.4-litre Renegade Trailhawk with 9-speed automatic transmission and a Solar Yellow exterior.

Middle East première of the new Jeep Compass

The 2017 Dubai International Motor Show also marks the Middle East debut of the Jeep Compass, the all-new compact SUV that offers an unmatched combination of attributes, including; legendary, best-in-class 4×4 off-road capability; contemporary and authentic Jeep design; excellent on-road driving dynamics; open-air freedom and a full array of advanced user-friendly connectivity and safety technologies. The Jeep Compass will be available in dealerships across the Middle East from the beginning of 2018.

Compass features a distinctive, contemporary design aesthetic, striking a fine balance between thrusting lines and elegant proportions, to deliver a genuinely modern look. Jeep designers gave the legendary seven-slot grille a fresh look by setting each of the individual chrome slots in a gloss black field. LED signature headlamp bezels featuring a black outline add personality and attitude to the face of the all-new Jeep Compass.

A fast, dramatic roofline and muscular fender flares create a stunning profile. A signature, full window surround (DLO) – an element that tracks completely around the vehicle, along with the available Gloss Black painted roof – add a unique, premium appearance. An available dual-pane sunroof designed to maximize surface and headroom delivers the open-air freedom that belongs to the Jeep brand. A standout feature of the rear of the Compass is its unique LED tail lamps – slim and rectangular in shape, they flow into the lift gate for a commanding yet premium appearance and make it instantly recognisable as a Jeep Compass whether on the road or trail. For added convenience, the Limited trim also features a power lift gate that helps ease cargo storage.

The all-new Jeep Compass interior design features refined materials and technical details. The trapezoidal centre stack bezel is a characteristic Jeep design cue and sports colour and finish that complement the interior choice. The centre stack houses the 5.0 (127mm), 7.0 (178mm) or 8.4-inch (213mm) touchscreen displays of the Uconnect system, delivering communication, entertainment and navigation features to enhance both the driving experience and the on-board comfort of passengers.

The driver’s instrument cluster is thoughtfully designed and features a 3.5 (89mm) or 7-inch (178mm) LED driver information display. The full-colour 7-inch screen displays information that the driver can configure for easier access while driving and is standard on Limited and Trailhawk models. Uconnect 7.0 and 8.4 NAV include new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features for hands-free phone, navigation (only on the 8.4NAV system) and voice texting.

The centre console neatly integrates the functional features of the Jeep Compass, including gear-shift selection, Selec-Terrain controls, electronic parking brake, engine stop-start (ESS) controls, climate and volume control knobs, and easily-accessible media charging and connectivity ports.

The Jeep Compass available in the Middle East will be powered by a 2.4-litre Tigershark petrol engine with MultiAir2 technology. It delivers 172 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, 237 Nm of torque and is paired to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Benchmark off-road capability comes courtesy of two advanced, intelligent full-time 4×4 systems: Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low (the latter with 20:1 crawl ratio) – each can send 100 percent of available torque to any one wheel when needed. Both Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems include the Jeep Selec-Terrain system, providing up to five modes (Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud modes, plus exclusive Rock mode on the Trailhawk model) for the best four-wheel-drive performance on any surface, on- or off-road, and in any weather conditions.

Compass also features a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU) to provide 4×4 models with enhanced fuel economy. Both Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems instantly engage when 4×4 traction is needed. All 4×4 Compass models also feature the 4WD “Lock” function, which locks the 4×4 traction permanently and can be selected by the driver with the dedicated button on the Selec-Terrain dial control.

Superior on-road driving dynamics of the all-new Compass result from its architecture, fully independent suspensions, segment-exclusive frequency damping front-and-rear-strut system and precise electric power steering.

In terms of safety features, the all-new Jeep Compass – recently awarded the maximum five star EuroNCAP rating – offers more than 70 active and passive safety systems, including Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid, Automated Parallel and Perpendicular Park assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, electronic stability control (ESC) with ERM (Electronic Roll Mitigation) system and front, side and curtain airbags. For added protection, Compass boasts a “safety cage” construction with more than 65 percent of high-strength steel.

2019 Corvette ZR1: Return of the King

The Fastest, Most Powerful Production Corvette Ever Unveiled in Global Launch Event Held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

In a global first held in Dubai, UAE, Chevrolet today introduced the 2019 Corvette ZR1, a supercar that pushes Corvette’s performance legacy with the highest power, greatest track performance and most advanced technology in its production history.

“I’ve never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there’s never been one like this before,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back.”

The Corvette ZR1’s exclusive LT5 supercharged engine, which is rated at an SAE-certified 755 horsepower (563 kW) and 715 lb-ft of torque (969 Nm), is establishing a new benchmark in performance. Further, the ZR1 elevates Corvette’s track capability with two wind tunnel-honed aerodynamics packages, including an available High Wing that provides an estimated 950 pounds (430.91 Kgs) of downforce.

Most powerful ever

The ZR1’s LT5 6.2L V-8 engine advances Corvette’s supercharging legacy, which began with the 2009 sixth-generation ZR1 and continued with the 2015 seventh-generation Z06. The LT5 delivers the highest output ever for a Chevrolet production vehicle, thanks in part to a new, more-efficient intercooled supercharger system that offers 52 percent more displacement than the Z06’s LT4 supercharger. GM’s first dual-fuel-injection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection, helps the LT5 achieve its record output.

Seven-speed manual and eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmissions are available with the LT5. It’s the first time an automatic transmission has been offered in a ZR1.

Fastest ever

The 2019 Corvette ZR1’s aggressive appearance is driven by function, contributing to its distinction as the fastest production Corvette to date.

An all-new front fascia is designed to channel air for propulsion-system and drivetrain cooling, with four new radiators bringing the heat-exchanger total to 13. A special carbon-fiber “halo” hood is open in the middle to clear the LT5 engine’s supercharger/intercooler assembly. Additional features, including aero packages with stanchion-mounted wings, help push the ZR1 harder onto the track for more confident handling and faster lap times. Top speed of the ZR1 is over 210 mph (337 kph).

“As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1’s design supports its capability in every way,” said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. “The new wings, for example, help generate more downforce without adding drag, enhancing road holding and top speed.”

The ZR1 will offer two aero packages: a standard rear Low Wing, which delivers the highest top speed and helps generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06’s base aero package, and an available two-way-adjustable High Wing that offers maximum downforce on the track for the quickest lap times — about 60 percent more downforce than the Z06 with the available Z07 Performance Package. All models also feature a Chevrolet-first, downforce-enhancing front underwing.
The adjustable High Wing is part of the new ZTK Performance Package, which also includes a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer-only tires, and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning for greater cornering grip.

Both of the ZR1’s wings are tied into the chassis, like the Corvette Racing C7.R racecar, for strength and stability.

Sebring Orange Design Package

The Corvette ZR1 introduced today also debuted a dynamic, available Sebring Orange Design Package. Centered on its Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior color, the package also includes orange brake calipers, orange rocker and splitter accent stripes, orange seat belts, orange interior stitching and unique, bronze aluminum interior trim.

The new design package complements the Corvette ZR1’s tradition of offering maximum performance with refinement and design distinction. The driver-focused, well-appointed cockpit includes standard leather-trimmed seats, with sueded microfiber inserts offered. Heated and vented Napa leather-trimmed seating is also available, as well as a carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel, competition sport seats, Performance Data Recorder, Bose premium audio system and more.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 goes on sale in the second half of 2018, poised to take on the world’s best.

THE WORLD’S MOST LUXURIOUS CAR TAKES THE STAND AT THE DUBAI INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

The world’s most luxurious motor car, the New Rolls-Royce Phantom took its place at the Dubai International Motor Show for its regional public debut alongside the one-off Bespoke Spirit of Calligraphy Ghost and Dawn Black Badge. The region’s luxury and motoring enthusiasts alike gathered to be among the first to see ‘The Best Car in the World’ as presented by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös.

Another new aspect has been at the heart of the new Phantom’s modern design aesthetic. ‘The Gallery’ is a contemporary and luxury reinterpretation of a motor car’s dashboard and instrument panel area. It is an industry first to have a single piece of toughened glass running the full width of the instrument panel. Rolls-Royce has thus created an area for Bespoke works of art and thereby increased the personalisation potential for every owner of the new Phantom.

‘Spirit of Calligraphy’ Ghost

The Rolls-Royce ‘Spirit of Calligraphy’ Bespoke Ghost draws its design inspiration from the ancient art of Arabic Calligraphy, where words are harmoniously moulded into shapes, creating a unique effect where texts and images become one. Inside this masterpiece a fantastic Motif created by renowned Arabic calligrapher Khalid Al Saaei, where Sir Henry Royce’s iconic words of “Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it” in their Arabic form are shaped into the Rolls-Royce’s famous mascot, the Spirit of Ecstasy.

Nissan Electrifies Dubai International Motor Show with its Latest Innovative Portfolio

Nissan is showcasing exciting prototypes and production cars at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show, giving customers a glimpse of its newest and future innovations. Nissan’s stand highlights Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s approach to changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society. The next generation all-electric Nissan LEAF has been unveiled for the first time in the Middle East.

The Nissan LEAF is the world’s best-selling electric car, with nearly 300,000 on the road. The second generation sets new standards in the growing market for electric cars with longer range, advanced technologies and dynamic design. Among the innovations are the revolutionary e-Pedal technology that allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop, by increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator, bringing the car to a complete stop. The car holds its position, even on steep slopes, until the accelerator is applied again.

The Expo 2020-branded Nissan LEAF is on display following the appointment of Nissan as the Official Automotive Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai. Electric vehicles including the all-new Nissan LEAF will be part of the Expo 2020 fleet.

Also making its regional debut at the show is the Nissan BladeGlider, a working prototype high performance electric vehicle with a revolutionary sports car design. It’s rear-hinged doors provide a unique entry and exit to the cabin, while the open roof and integrated roll-over protection structure offer the exhilaration of an open-topped race car with the safety of a coupe.

The BladeGlider has a narrow front track and wider rear track for optimum aerodynamic efficiency and handling stability. The sporty prototype models can reach speeds of up to 190km/h in less than five seconds and is packed with advanced technologies including torque vectoring, which allows the driver to control the torque delivered to the wheels.

Also launched at the Dubai International Motor Show is the all-new Nissan Maxima Midnight Edition 2018. The Midnight Edition includes all the key features of the popular Maxima SR grade, as well as a sport-tuned suspension, a front chassis performance damper, black sport spoiler and black rear diffuser. Additional features also include premium Ascot leather appointed seats with diamond quilted Alcantara® inserts, climate controlled front seats, LED low beam headlights and a 19-inch gloss black aluminum alloy wheels.

The full Nissan range at the show includes latest model of the Nissan Patrol, Patrol Nismo, Pathfinder, X-Trail, Kicks, Micra and Altima, GT-R Nismo, GT-R, Patrol Super Safari 3-door and 5-door editions, Navara and Sentra. A special tuned version of the 370z and GT-R Nismo is also on display.

To fully illustrate Nissan’s ‘Innovation that Excites’, the company brings to life its global partnership with UEFA at the Motor Show with an interactive outdoor activation, that combines a cool driving experience with football. The Nissan Controller enables the car to interface with PlayStation and soccer, offering soccer fans and car fanatics to come together and participate in the UEFA Champions League.

DUBAI INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW 2017 – A WEEK IN PICTURES

The 14th edition of the biennial Dubai International Motor Show closed at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) on Saturday 18th of November 2017, with five-day attendance of over 100,000 visitors underlining regional consumers’ enduring confidence in the automotive industry.

With Dubai International Motor Show hosting over a hundred global and regional launches of new models from leading international auto manufacturers and suppliers – show reveals included mega launches by Infiniti, Jaguar Land Rover, Jeep, Mazda, McLaren, Rolls Royce, and UAE-based hypercar manufacturer, Devel – a series of on-site activations, drift displays, Classic Car auctions and the Ignition Live industry talks proved huge draws for families and passionate petrolheads alike.

Bumper deals rolled out by major manufacturers including Lincoln, Ford and Nissan also pulled in the crowds, with opportunity for purchases and pre-bookings for visitors.

FLYING THE FLAG FOR PIRELLI: ITALIAN TYRE MAKER’S ICONIC P ZERO COLOUR EDITION TREADS APPEAR ON WORLD’S LEADNG CARS AT 2017 DUBAI INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

Pirelli, one of the symbols of Italian industrial excellence, has been turning heads as well as cars at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, with its iconic P ZERO and P ZERO Colour Edition tyres appearing on some of the world’s newest and fastest models on display at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The Pirelli P ZERO Colour Edition is a special made-to-order ultra-high performance tyre featuring a sidewall in striking colours including the brands signature yellow and red, and also in an eye-catching blue, which was unveiled earlier this year, and the P ZERO is a unique product that combines Pirelli’s knowledge gained from competitive Motorsport with the brand’s strong alliance with the top car manufacturers, granting the perfect fit for the performance of each car.

And Pirelli tyres have been marking their mark at the Middle East’s premier automotive event in Dubai this week, appearing on leading vehicles from the likes of McLaren, Porsche, Jaguar, Infiniti and more.

Project Black S by Infinti

The Pirelli yellow P ZERO colour edition was seen on the super cool Project Black S by luxury Japanese car maker Infiniti, with the yellow sidewall, providing a striking contrast to the shiny silver of the cars bodywork.

McLaren ‘Black and Gold’ 720S

Many people’s car of the show, the striking ‘Black and Gold 720S’ is a Dubai-inspired vehicle from supercar giant McLaren with Arabic calligraphy of “life is measured in achievement, not in years alone” – a quote by McLaren founder Bruce McLaren – on its rear spoiler. It looked even more impressive with P ZERO treads on.

Lamborghini

The cars on display on the Italian brands were displaying loyalty to their compatriot with P ZERO boots on.

Ferrari Portofino

Enjoying its regional debut at the Dubai International Motor Show this week, the latest model from Ferrari looked resplendant in its P ZERO shoes.

Jaguar

Like Pirelli, Jaguar Land Rover is a brand that is synonmous with high performance, style and prestige so itwas a natural fit for several of Jaguars latest models to be seen on top of sleek P Zeros.

Italdesign Zerouno

This custom-made car by Italdesign Automobili Speciali, grabbed plenty of attention from show visitors throughout the show and looked very impressive featuring P ZEROs.

Abarth at the 2017 Dubai International Motorshow

Implementing its policy of promoting continual brand growth on a global level, Abarth’s presence at the 2017 Dubai International Motorshow showcases three models – Abarth 695 Rivale Cabrio, Abarth 124 Spider and Abarth 595 Competizione – representing the range of the brand with the Scorpion badge which is being officially launched in the Middle East and North Africa. It is an important moment for the prestigious Italian brand which boasts a long and glorious racing and rally history and a further step forward in the Abarth expansion strategy with a sole mission: to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary by offering the best products in the compact sports car segment.

The three attractive cars on show give visitors from around the Middle East the chance to learn more about the values of the brand, which are based on top performance, craftsmanship and continual technical upgrades. These three values guide the work of the Abarth designers, engineers and technicians who create the compact supercars with the Scorpion badge engaged every day on the road and on the racing track.

It’s not by chance that races are a key element of the past and present of this renowned Italian brand, as demonstrated by the tried and tested Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione and Abarth 595 OT (Omologata Turismo), not to mention the Abarth 124 rally, which debuted this season, and the Formula 4 cars – equipped with the 1.4 Turbo T-Jet engine derived from the one used on Abarth street-legal and race cars – that are competing in the UAE Championship.

Abarth 124 Spider

An exclusive automotive expression of Italian lifestyle, the new Abarth 124 Spider is an adrenaline-fuelled, unconventional car that’s destined to become an icon of driving satisfaction and is sure to excite everyone who gets behind the wheel.

Derived from the best roadster platform, the most successful in automotive history, the new Abarth 124 Spider has been further developed by Squadra Corse Abarth to guarantee the bold dynamics and driving joy of a true roadster. Its technical excellence is focused on handling quality with a standard mechanical self-locking differential. Typically found in top-of-the-range sports cars, this emphasises the personality of the new Abarth 124 Spider.

The weight is concentrated between the axles and the engine is installed behind the front axle to guarantee optimal agility and superior driving feel. Sophisticated mechanics and special materials have been used to contain the weight to just 1,060 kgs. This results in a weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 kg/hp, the best in its category. Furthermore, the optimal weight distribution guarantees genuine, exciting response.

A powerful, ultra-reliable 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with MultiAir technology throbs under the bonnet. It delivers 170 horsepower (about 124 hp per litre) and 250 Nm of torque: it has a top speed of 229 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds paired with a six-speed Esseesse Sports Sequential automatic transmission. What’s more, since the engine sound is a fundamental element of all Abarth cars, standard equipment includes a Record Monza exhaust with Dual Mode system capable of modifying the path of the exhaust gas according to pressure, guaranteeing linear torque and power delivery and generating a satisfying, deep roar at the same time. The suspension of the Abarth 124 Spider features high double wishbone suspension on the front and a five-arm multi-link on the rear. The set-up is calibrated specifically to increase stability on corners and enhance compression braking. Steering feedback is optimised by adopting a specific sports calibration of the power steering system.

The new Abarth 124 Spider is also decked out with a host of state-of-the-art active and passive safety devices. In addition to ABS, standard equipment includes EBD, for adjusting front and rear axle brake force distribution to optimise braking distances and guarantee control in all load conditions of the car. Of course, ESC, for optimal control in all driving conditions, particularly the most critical, is also standard. All these devices can be set to two levels or completely deactivated for driving on the race track allowing the driver to exploit the outstanding balancing and dynamic features of Abarth 124 Spider to the fullest and enjoy an unadulterated and direct driving feeling.

Abarth DNA is also evident on the interiors of both models, with an overall focus aimed at guaranteeing perfect ergonomics. Leather seats are both supportive and comfortable to keep the driver in the ideal position, as low and retracted as possible to be able to perceive all sideways movements of the car. And all of the controls are perfectly in keeping with the sporty set-up of the car – the position of the pedal board, the vertical steering wheel and the short gear stick make for a fully enthralling driving experience. The dashboard features a large tachometer with red background arranged in central position facing the driver and a keyless start system.

Comfort is guaranteed by leather seats (as standard) and excellent soundproofing afforded by the noise deadening windscreen, rear window and double-layer top. The latter is designed to be opened and closed with one hand from the driver’s seat in a few seconds. Once folded behind the seats it does not occupy space in the boot.

Both cars on show are equipped with the Sound Plus Pack, which includes radio 7” touchscreen and a sophisticated Bose audio system with subwoofer and eight speakers, two of which integrated in the head restraints for a perfect listening experience. The Visibility Plus Pack features full LED automatic self-levelling headlights, LED daytime running lights, rain sensor, dust sensor, headlight washer and rear parking sensors.

Finally, the colour range includes the pastel “Turini 1975 White” and “Costa Brava 1972 Red” shades, together with the metallic “San Marino 1972 Black”, “Hessen 1972 Blue”, and “Eastern Alps 1974 Grey” colours – all names chosen to pay tribute to the Brand’s prestige successes in the rallying world.
