Ford F-150: The Middle East’s Best 4×4 Full-Size Pickup Truck by Far

Ford F-150 - Arab Motor World

With class-leading power, smart technology and unrivaled capability and safety features, the Ford F-150 is built to take anything the Middle East can throw at it.

The 2018 F-150 is the distillation of more than 100 years of truck development and the refinement of 42 years of F-Series leadership, making it the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever. It’s also the safest, with the inclusion of Ford’s new Co-Pilot 360’s suite of driver assist technologies.

Building on its proven heritage, the F-150 is available with a choice of three engines, three cabin styles, and three bed lengths. It comes with muscular styling, segment-first and class-exclusive driver assist technologies and even more features that allow owners to explore the great outdoors with unwavering confidence. Customer research shows that buyers bank on the F-150’s reputation for power and safety – and it’s in these areas that this Built Ford Tough truck continues to lead.

All-new Co-Pilot 360

Co-Pilot 360 is a package of technologies that help keep drivers, occupants and even pedestrians more protected than ever before. New Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection monitors the F-150’s proximity to other vehicles and pedestrians up front and will alert the driver with visible and audible warnings. In extreme cases, and if the system determines a collision is imminent, active braking may automatically apply full braking.

Blind Spot information system, or BLIS®, uses radar to identify a vehicle entering the blind spot and alerts the driver with an indicator light in the side-view mirror. Its range can be extended to include a conventional trailer once programmed into the system. Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) can warn drivers of traffic approaching from either side when the truck is backing out of a parking space. It uses the same radar sensors as BLIS and automatically engages when the driver selects reverse.

The toughest, most powerful F-150 ever

Based on its proven chassis – the strongest ever developed for the F-150 – and class-exclusive all-aluminium body, the 2018 truck’s standard, all-new 3.3-litre Ti-VCT V6 engine delivers where it matters most, with higher towing capability, more payload capacity and better fuel efficiency than the engine it replaces. The engine comes fitted with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with standard auto-start/stop technology.

The 3.3-litre engine is joined by an enhanced version of the trusted and proven 5.0-litre Ti-VCT V8. Fed by a new dual-injection system which, when coupled with a higher compression ratio and upgraded main and connecting rod bearings for greater durability, sees the V8 produce an impressive 395 horsepower and 542Nm torque.

The second generation 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine remains the best choice for those who need to balance outright performance with ultimate fuel efficiency. Paired with the 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, engine torque is instantly available for exceptional low-end and peak performance. With class-leading 637Nm torque on hand, the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6-powered F-150 is equipped to handle heavy loads, tow loaded trailers and tackle the region’s toughest terrain. Properly equipped, the truck has a class-topping tow capacity of almost six tonnes.

The FX4 Off Road package is available on XL to Platinum models and is designed to give the F-150 even more capability off road. The package includes a lock rear differential, underbody skid plates that protect the front differential, transfer case and fuel tank, Hill Descent Control and off-road tuned shock absorbers. Drivers can also monitor the action via the truck’s productivity screen.

Convenience, at the press of a button

The F-150 is built to work, and the cargo box is designed to make that easier for owners. The new tailgate features a rugged F-150 stamping on all models from XL to King Ranch, and the tailgate can be locked, unlocked and lowered via the key fob. The class-exclusive tailgate step and support make accessing the cargo box easy, while LED lights illuminate the area efficiently. Owners can also add class-exclusive LED sideview mirror spotlights to help illuminate camp sites at night.

Class-exclusive stowable loading ramps are available to help make loading ATVs, motorcycles and other equipment easy, while Ford’s BoxLink features four removable and lockable premium cleats provide additional tie-down points to help secure loads.

World-class sound quality and connectivity

A new B&O Play Premium Audio System by HARMAN is available, unlocking the power of your favourite music through the tailored tuning and calibration of ten strategically placed speakers around the cabin. Ford’s SYNC 3 system allows hands-free control of calls, music and more, while the eight-inch screen provides bold, clear and precise information. SYNC 3 is also Apple CarPlay compatible, meaning iPhone users can use Siri’s functions to access favourite songs and playlists, and Apple Maps for voice-guided navigation. There are also two smart-charging USB ports to help keep your devices powered up and ready to go, and a power outlet for heavy duty tools and devices in the dash.

Hacks and Helping Hat-Tips to Stay Cool – Calm and Collected on a Road Trip from Ford

Ford tips - Arab Motor World

Be it a regular two-day weekend, or an extended staycation a few hours away by car, it’s hard to beat the excitement of hitting the open road on your way to invaluable family time.

Of course, any extraordinary journey often requires perfect planning and prior preparations, and at the height of summer, keeping cool under the conditions is often easier said than done. To be as comfortable and as confidently primed as possible for your short-term sojourn, consider these helpful tips from Ford.

Late night departure: While not always possible, postponing your departure until after the sun sets will dramatically reduce the heat inside your cabin. Ford has available lighting technology that can make night-time driving less stressful, too, like Dynamic LED Headlights and Auto High Beam Control, which detects oncoming vehicles and automatically switches to dipped beams until the vehicle has passed.

Visionary visor: You might see taxis or delivery drivers sticking a newspaper or restaurant menu to their window in the hope of blocking out the sun when it beams in from side of the car, but your sun visor is probably more flexible than you think. The slide on rod sun visor can easily keep that blindingly bright sun glare out of your eyes, keeping you invariably more comfortable.

Too cool for school: Staying hydrated is one thing, but keeping your liquids cool is something entirely different. Ahead of your road trip, be sure to pick up a cool bag or a cool box to store your bottles of water, or perhaps to maintain a level of freshness to some fruit slices. While your air conditioning system will keep you from overheating externally, a chilled bottle of water will prove invaluable during long daytime drives in the summer.

Life’s a breeze: The last thing you need in summer is an underperforming air conditioning unit, either in your home or your car. Before you hit the road, ensure your AC is topped up with the necessary gas to keep the cabin nice and cool. Proper maintenance of your car’s air conditioning has several benefits: it saves money, reduces the amount of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the atmosphere, and increases the life of your vehicle’s air conditioning system.

Chilling sounds: Summer songs, big hits, and cool chords make any long car journey less stressful. The 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system by Harman available in Ford vehicles has been perfected by acoustic engineers for a sound even audiophiles will appreciate. Prepare for your getaway by setting up a few different playlists, and lose yourself in concert quality while en route to your destination.

Stay the course: It might seem like an obvious point, but plan your route. SYNC® 3, Ford’s next generation of voice-activated technology, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto* capability, has a new, easy-to-use design and features. The easy-to-read color LCD touchscreen displays phone, audio and navigation functions. SYNC 3’s navigation function allows you to search easily for places of interest, such as a particular building or meeting point, and save them for future reference. This cuts down on valuable time needed to search through menus or maps to help make your day more productive.

Over 40 New Features and Driver-Assist Technologies, Class-Exclusive Functionality and Best-in-Class Capability, Make Ford Expedition a Slam Dunk for Large SUV Buyers

With more than 40 new features and driver-assist technologies, the new generation Ford Expedition is even more comfortable during short and long modern family adventures.

Redefining the full-sized SUV segment with its all-new design inside and out, unique smart technologies, more power for drivers, and extensive driver-assist technologies, Expedition personifies class-exclusivity and best-in-class capability.

“Ford continues to build on its strong SUV leadership heritage, with the new generation 2018 Ford Expedition being the smartest, most capable and most adaptable Expedition ever,” said Crystal Worthem, Marketing director, Ford Middle East and Africa. “Active families don’t simply want a big, strong SUV to take them places; they want the journey to be as enjoyable as the destination. And Expedition gives them that.”

Of the new features in the newest Expedition, a great number contribute to Ford’s full-sized SUV earning the tag “Best-in-Class” and “Class-Exclusive”. These include best-in-class fuel economy, torque, towing capability and second and third row space, not to mention the Panoramic Vista Roof that spans two rows – a feature not offered by any competitor – BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert, which now includes class-exclusive trailer coverage, and an advanced cargo manager with an adjustable shelf behind the third row.

Expedition has been thoroughly updated with the latest must-have connectivity features, driver-assist technologies, and premium convenience amenities. Here are 10 of the best:

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go: Adaptive cruise control keeps a constant speed without having to work the brake or accelerator pedals – plus it automatically maintains a comfortable distance from vehicles ahead, once a pre-set distance has been set. Newly added stop-and-go functionality uses radar and cameras to scan the road ahead and detect slower-moving traffic travelling in the same lane. The auto-hold feature keeps the vehicle at a complete stop without the driver having to press and hold the brake pedal. If the vehicle has stopped for more than three seconds, the driver can tap the resume button or press the accelerator and the vehicle will return to its pre-set speed.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist: To operate Pro Trailer Backup Assist, the driver rotates a knob to indicate how much the system should turn the trailer, then the technology automatically steers the Expedition to turn the trailer the desired amount. The system can limit vehicle speed to enhance occupant comfort over various road surfaces. The result is less time required to back up a trailer along with added driver confidence; the technology can even help towing experts by reducing time lost to manoeuvring mistakes.

Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection: Designed to help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of frontal collisions with vehicles or pedestrians, first by way of audible and visual alerts, then with active braking if the driver does not respond in time. The system uses information collected from a windshield-mounted camera and radar located near the front bumper. If the system’s sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of the vehicle, a warning appears on the windshield and an audible alert sounds. Brakes will pre-charge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness for when the driver brakes. If the driver does not take corrective action and collision is imminent, brakes may automatically apply.

Powerful and Efficient EcoBoost® Engine: Expedition comes with the most torque in its class with the second generation 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine mated to a new class-exclusive 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Featuring a new PFDI fuel system – Port Fuel (PFI) and Direct-Injection (DI) – a dual fuel delivery system with two fuel injectors per cylinder to enhance power output, efficiency and emissions, and employing larger, twin turbochargers delivering more boost making the new Expedition exceptionally powerful with up to 400 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, contributing to both best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-class towing capability.

Terrain Management System: The 2018 Expedition’s new Terrain Management System has up to seven drive modes including a Sand Mode, and, paired with a two-speed transfer case (all four-wheel-drive models) and the rear eLSD (electronic limited-slip differential) that allows a full differential lock, offers excellent off-road capability. Modes include normal for around town driving, sport for more spirited trips, tow/haul for improved towing and hauling performance, eco for enhanced fuel economy, grass/gravel/snow for loose terrain, sand for low traction situations and mud/rut for uneven surfaces.

Enhanced Active Park Assist with Park Out: Available Enhanced Active Park Assist employs ultrasonic sensors and electric power-assisted steering, building on Ford’s parallel parking technology, and includes a system to guide the vehicle into a perpendicular parking space, while it also includes park-out assist to help drivers pull out of parallel parking spots. The system controls the steering wheel, while the driver operates the accelerator and brake pedals, and shifts the vehicle into gear.

Rotary Gear Shift: Located in the front centre console, the new standard class-exclusive rotary gear shift dial comes to Expedition with backlit PRND and M, working electronically, rather than mechanically, to shift gears. To place the vehicle into gear, the dial is turned to the desired letter, while pressing ‘M’ in the centre of the rotary dial places the vehicle into SelectShift manual mode – allowing the driver to control transmission shift points.

Room to Manoeuvre: When it comes to leg room and hip room, no one in its class does it better than Ford Expedition which boasts the most of both in second and third rows. There’s best-in-class maximum cargo room behind the third-row seats, too. Expedition’s second- and third-row seats can also be quickly folded flat with the push of a button to open up a cargo area wide enough to handle 4×8-foot sheets of plywood and other gear, depending on cargo weight and load distribution, even with the liftgate closed. Best-in-class second and third row legroom and flexible seating and storage solutions also include second-row tip-and-slide seating, providing easy access to the third row even when child seats are installed.

B&O PLAY by Harman: The 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system by Harman available in Expedition has been perfected by acoustic engineers for a sound even audiophiles will appreciate. Providing those discriminating fans of high-fidelity sound systems with a rich, engaging listening experience. Featuring 12 high-performance speakers positioned and calibrated for optimal sound delivery, the system includes two ultra-performance midrange speakers and a subwoofer, and a 1,100-watt 14-channel amplifier that includes Digital Signal Processing (DSP) with 100 filters for exceptional sound quality.

SYNC® 3: Ford’s next generation of voice-activated technology, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, has a new, easy-to-use design and features. The easy-to-read colour LCD touchscreen displays phone, audio and navigation functions. High-speed performance lets you experience quick responses to your commands. A capacitive touchscreen includes a convenient swipe feature similar to your smartphone, as well as pinch-to-zoom functionality within navigation. Voice activation, including Arabic, makes it even easier for you to check in with friends and family, and stay on top of your day. Talk with simple commands and the system responds naturally to your voice. When it’s time to recharge, wireless inductive charging capability comes via a wireless charging pad – for compatible mobile devices – located in the storage bin at the front of the centre console. Smart-charging USB ports available in every row – up to six on Platinum models – also provide a convenient spot to power up your portable devices and smartphones.

Ford Motor Company Earns Its Best-Ever Score in 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Ford Motor Company has earned its best-ever scores in the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, thanks to overall quality improvements that are outpacing the industry, especially in advanced audio, connectivity, entertainment and navigation technology. Now in its 32nd year, the J.D. Power study, which measures

vehicle quality by analysing the first 90 days of ownership, ranks Ford Motor Company No. 2 among all automakers.

Ford’s scores are helped by substantial improvements in technology quality. Almost every Ford and Lincoln vehicle equipped with SYNC® 3 connectivity technology, leads its quality segments with significantly better than average quality scores.

“Customers want a vehicle that keeps them connected whether they’re going places or just out enjoying a drive,” said Jim VanSlambrouck, Ford’s Director of Quality for The Americas. “Our improving quality scores show we are delivering smart vehicles for a smart world that are also easy to use.”

Ford also showed improvements in exterior, seating, the drive experience, feature control displays, the interior and air conditioning categories. As a result Ford Motor Company earned   more vehicle segment awards than any other automaker.

Overall, the company has nine vehicles in the top three of their respective segments – including top honors for Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang, Ford F-Series Super Duty, Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKC.

The Ford brand improves for the fifth year in a row and at a rate faster than the industry, showing 81 problems per 100 vehicles, down from 86 in 2017. Lincoln improves to a third-place ranking among premium brands, with 83 problems per 100 vehicles, down from 92 in 2017.

“While we’re pleased with our results, we know quality is a race that never ends – and we’ll keep pushing to deliver even higher-quality vehicles for our customers,” said VanSlambrouck.

With continuous improvements by both brands, Ford Motor Company retains its second-place ranking among all automakers in this year’s study.

Ford 2018 Expedition The Safest Vehicle in its Class

2018 New Generation Expedition - Exterior (5)

The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition has earned the US government’s highest possible crash test rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, making this full-size SUV a leader in safety.

Expedition’s improved performance is powered by an average weight savings of up to 325 pounds through the use of high-strength, military-grade, aluminium alloy in the body, which lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity for enhanced stability and driving dynamics.

Expedition is equipped with dual seat belt pyrotechnic pretensioners in the anchor and retractor, which contributes to safety, helping to keep occupants in place in the event of a crash.

“As a father of four and longtime Expedition owner, safety was a top priority when engineering the entirely new Expedition,” said Andrew Kernahan, Ford Expedition chief program engineer. “We are proud of the many features Expedition offers today that help keep our customers safe on the road.”

Improvements to the 2018 Expedition go beyond body and frame – the all-new SUV sets a new level of technology offerings. Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, auto high beams and enhanced active park assist promote greater driver confidence and control.

The new-generation Ford Expedition adds this important accolade to its long list of best-in-class features which includes:

  • Best-in-class fuel economy
  • Best-in-class torque
  • Best-in-class 2nd and 3rd row space

Ford Launches 2018 Edition of Conservation and Environmental Grants

Conservation and Environmental Grants

Coinciding with World Environment Day on June 5, Ford Motor Company today launched the 17th edition of its Conservation and Environmental Grants programme, with $105,000 made available to successful entries from around the Middle East and North Africa region.

World Environment Day is the United Nation’s most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. Each World Environment Day is organised around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “beating plastic pollution”, and Ford is increasing the total fund offering for 2018 with a $5,000 special category grant for the project that best displays a plan to tackle the scourge of plastic on our environment.

Accepted from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Yemen, the touted Conservation and Environmental Grants projects should be focused on one of three main areas: Environmental Education, Protection of the Natural Environment and Conservation Engineering.

Two further categories will receive financial support for the winning projects: Best in Research – projects that show use of research in finding, and implementing, solutions to a specific environmental issue – and Best in Community Engagement, for the project that best demonstrates community engagement during its undertaking.

Individuals or organisations with on-going projects focused on any of the main areas of focus are invited to apply by downloading the form here, and email it to FMEGrant@ford.com. Applications will be received from June 5, with closing date for submissions on July 15, 2018 at 9pm AST (Arab Standard Time). Jury voting will take place, virtually, in August, with winners announced in September of this year.

“Our planet faces increasing environmental challenges; such as greater congestion in cities, the rise of the global population, and the ongoing implications of climate change – and so we continue to work tirelessly to maximise our energy and water efficiency and minimise the waste and emissions footprints of our manufacturing plants and vehicles,” said Mark Ovenden, president, Ford Middle East and Africa.

“The Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants programme is one of many initiatives Ford has invested in to preserve our environment for future generations. With this year’s World Environment Day theme of Beating Plastic Pollution in mind, the programme will be including an additional special category to be awarded a $5,000 ‘beating plastic’ grant.”

For years, Ford has been working with renewable materials, from farm elements to plastics. In partnership with Coca-Cola, Nike and Procter & Gamble, Ford proudly co-founded the plant-based PET Technology Collaborative (PTC), a strategic working group focused on accelerating the development and use of 100 per cent plant-based PET materials and fibres. Ford also boasts the first automotive use of Coca-Cola’s Plant Bottle plastic, used in the seat fabric, trim, carpets and headliner in an electric Ford Focus battery demonstration vehicle.

The World Wildlife Fund’s Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance (BFA) can, too, rely on Ford as a partner, as it works to support the responsible development of plastics made from plant material, and helps build a more sustainable future for the bioplastics industry.

The air is shimmering like in the desert, while just a few metres away, it’s so cold you can build a snowman. And there’s a category 5 hurricane in the next room. Welcome to the “Weather Factory”. Ford’s new state-of-the-art Environmental Test Centre puts all the world’s weather under one roof, enabling engineers to test forthcoming vehicles – from a small Ford KA+ to a two-tonne Ford Transit in the most demanding conditions and make whatever weather they want at any time of the day.

Altitudes higher than Mont Blanc, the tallest Alpine peak, vehicle and wind speeds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph), snow, glaring sunlight and rain are among conditions that are a push of a button away in Europe’s most advanced automotive environmental test centre.

On an area the size of a football pitch, engineers can now take vehicles on demanding journeys around the world, from the desert heat of the Sahara, to the arctic cold of Siberia and the heavy humidity of Costa Rica.

“The vast range of punishing simulation tests will enable Ford drivers to be confident their vehicles can handle whatever climate zone they live in,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe. “Travelling to the four corners of this building is like taking a trip to the four corners of the world, and our engineers will do that around the clock, every day, to continue to develop future best-in-class vehicles.”

The subject of a €70 million investment, the test centre offers the first automotive wind tunnel to simulate heavy snow and altitudes of 5,200 metres, the same elevation as the Mount Everest North Base Camp. The facility can also cool two rooms to – 40° C and heat them up to 55° C, as well as generate 95 per cent humidity. The temperature extremes make the facility at Ford’s John Andrews Product Development Centre in Cologne, Germany, the hottest, coldest and most humid place in Europe, and home to the highest point in Western Europe.

Now fully operational, engineers can work on up to ten different vehicles simultaneously. Testing covers comfort, safety and durability, as well as electrical performance, braking, air conditioning, trailer towing, cabin heating and traffic jam situations. Engineers analyse the effects of high speed winds on exterior parts, check the robustness against rain and snow, and see how fast a windscreen defrosts at different temperatures.

“The Environmental Test Centre represents a significant investment for Ford of Europe that will help enable the company here to develop vehicles for global markets,” said Bakaj.

All Ford vehicles will be tested in the facility, which features three climate wind tunnels, including a high-altitude lab, and four temperature-controlled test chambers, one of which will also facilitate humidity testing.

  • Wind Tunnel 1 is set up for hot and cold immersion testing. The 28 spotlights with 4,000‑watt bulbs help to simulate the powerful sun beams that enable engineers to check how fast the cabin can be cooled. This wind tunnel can also evaluate the interior noise from vehicle systems at different speeds, temperatures and humidity levels, to check the heating and air conditioning noise
  • Wind Tunnel 2 is also set up for hot and cold immersion testing. Engineers can use this wind tunnel to make snow and rain to check the effect on visibility, engine starts and how long it takes to heat the cabin
  • Wind Tunnel 3 is the altitude lab, where engineers can test vehicles at wind speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph) at up to 5,200 metres. The high altitude cold start and durability tests ensure the vehicle’s liquids don’t burst their lines when working under higher pressure. More than half of Ford vehicles worldwide are sold in territories with roads above 1,000m

“We can see how windshield wipers function in Arctic temperatures, how engine performance changes in extreme heat and cold, and even how much snow falls on the driver’s head when they open the door. It’s an engineer’s dream,” said Michael Steup, project manager, Environmental Test Centre, Ford of Europe.

Overall, the facility requires 11 megawatts of electricity, enough to power a small town of 2,400 inhabitants, that comes from a fully renewable, environmentally-friendly source. The electricity provided by RheinEnergie originates from certified sustainable sources in Scandinavia and covers the complete electric power demand of Ford’s facilities in the city.

The ground-breaking test centre complements testing facilities that include Ford Lommel Proving Ground, in Belgium, home to a specific pothole-testing track, side-wind tests, and saltwater and mud baths.

The world’s largest community-based traffic app

largest community - Waze traffic - Arab Motor World

Waze users around the world can now project the app’s real-time traffic and navigation service onto the touch screen in Ford vehicles via SYNC® AppLink® and control it through voice command. For owners of Ford SYNC 3-equipped vehicles, this allows easier access to features including finding efficient traffic routes, locating cheaper fuel prices and reporting traffic accidents.

To use, customers simply connect their Waze-equipped iPhone to the USB port of their Ford vehicle and view the service as it is projected onto the vehicle touch screen. With Ford SYNC AppLink, users can now conveniently access the app’s features on a larger display and have voice guidance through their own vehicle speakers and microphone system.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to access the smartphone features, apps and services they care about most in the car, without having to pick up their device,” said Don Butler, executive director, connected vehicle platform and product, Ford Motor Company. “With Waze, our customers get the benefits they’re accustomed to with the added luxury of experiencing them on a bigger screen.”

In addition to the ability to report on heavy traffic, accidents and fuel prices, Ford’s integration of Waze includes recent app updates such as talk to Waze, which lets you control the app via voice command. Features also include route support for high-occupancy vehicle lanes (carpool lanes), providing additional navigation options and more accurate arrival times.

“We’re excited drivers of Ford SYNC 3-enabled vehicles will now be able to use Waze for iOS right from their dashboard, getting access to features like planned drives, alternative routes, talk to Waze voice commands and more,” said Jens Baron, product lead, in-car applications, Waze. “They’ll also benefit from the best routes and most accurate ETAs, thanks to our global community of drivers on the go who update the map in real-time – helping our mission to one day eliminate traffic.”

To deliver optimal driving directions and traffic updates, Waze uses crowdsourcing to gather information about road conditions from all of its users. People simply type in their destination and drive with the app open to contribute data to Waze’s community of users. At the same time, people can take a more active role by sharing reports from the road, including notifying the community of accidents, hazards or route changes that were previously unknown.

By working together, the aim is for people to help each other improve the quality of their commute. Waze can help commuters avoid congested roads in favour of other routes, or see when their friends are expected to arrive at their destination. Users can even help each other save a few dollars by sharing fuel prices as they travel, allowing people to navigate to the cheapest nearby station.
