GMC sets a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title in partnership with Abu Dhabi Police

As part of the GCC Traffic Week (11-15 March), GMC Middle East set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title, for the ‘largest parade of GMC cars’, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Police. Held at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, 191 GMC vehicles gathered to form over a four-kilometer long parade on the famous Formula One race track. The parade was led by a 2018 6.0L V8 GMC Sierra Denali which valiantly pulled a 30-meter flag displaying a photo of the late Sheikh Zayed, to commemorate the UAE’s Year of Zayed.

The world record title was officiated by representatives from Guinness World Records and successfully accomplished by GMC customers and members of the GMC UAE Club who proudly showcased their own models on the track. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Police, GMC Middle East and Bin Hamoodah Auto – GMC dealer in Abu Dhabi – were on the ground to support the record-breaking event. In line with the continual efforts by the UAE authorities to improve traffic and reduce accident rates, the event aimed to shed light on traffic risks while raising awareness of road safety among motorists in the UAE.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police hosted a youth circle titled ‘Your Life is Precious’ about over speed and traffic accidents, in participation with the Emirates Youth Council. Captain Abdulla Saleh AlJneibi, member of Abu Dhabi Police Youth Council, said, “We welcome the participation of the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF) in the youth circle that aims at consolidating the relationship between the police and sports cars owners as they represent the youth community in the country.”

AlJneibi added, “We are present here as a testament to our cooperation with the UAE private sector, as well as Yas Marina Circuit, through focused events such as this one which observes an official attempt to break a world record for the largest GMC convoy ever – organized in the UAE. While one of our key roles at Abu Dhabi Police is to raise awareness about road safety, we are taking part to also commemorate the UAE’s Year of Zayed as the convoy carries around the race track of a giant flag displaying the logo of this year’s initiative.”

Sajed Sbeih, Head of Brand, GMC, at General Motors Middle East, said, “It is such a great honor for the people of the UAE to celebrate the Year of Zayed and show this pride to a global audience. The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title would not have been achieved without the significant contribution from Abu Dhabi Police and GMC owners and fans who came together at Yas Marina to create the world’s largest parade of GMC vehicles.”

“On behalf of GMC – globally, regionally and locally – I would like to thank Abu Dhabi Police and our local partner in Abu Dhabi Bin Hamoodah Auto for making this outstanding achievement possible. GMC is all about professional grade and we always strive to make extraordinary achievements to further enrich the brand’s heritage”, Sbeih added.

GMC Middle East, broke its own GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest GMC parade which was previously set by Mohammad Saleh and Reza Yousuf Behbehani Co. – GMC dealers in Kuwait. Held on 3 November 2012, GMC Kuwait gathered 181 GMC vehicles at the 7th Ring Road, in Kuwait, setting a record of the largest parade of GMC cars.

GCC Traffic Week is a unified campaign by GCC countries which aims to improve driver safety. Taking place from 11th – 15th March 2018, the week features multiple programs and communications raising awareness and providing guidance on safe driving.

The Terrain offers greater refinement and versatility to adapt to customers’ unique needs, and it’s packed with more available advanced safety technologies than ever before.

Continuing the momentum of owning over a quarter GMC’s overall retail sales, Denali returns to the Terrain with greater exclusivity than ever, offering a distinctive range-topping design and uniquely refined features.

“GMC’s strong growth over the past decade is due in large part to Terrain,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of global GMC Sales and Marketing. “The all-new Terrain builds on that success, leveraging GMC’s proven premium SUV experience to shake up the largest vehicle segment, with a strong blend of design, functionality and engineering excellence.”

Sajed Sbeih, Head of Brand for GMC Middle East said: “The 2018 Terrain is the second generation of our premium compact SUV, offering yet more refinement and versatility to GMC’s customers in the region who have long shown their appreciation for our products, and since its introduction to the Middle East we have seen very positive feedback from both existing and new customers that has also been reflected in the sales of the vehicle.”

The 2018 Terrain is available in the Middle East in SLE, SLT and Denali models, maintaining the momentum created by the first-generation model, of which more than 700,000 have been sold globally since it went on sale in 2009.

Bold, modern design

The new Terrain’s bold exterior signals the next chapter of GMC’s design language, evolving the brand’s signature cues with stronger, sharper and more sculpted elements such as the grille and lighting features. Its shape was refined in the wind tunnel to help ensure the distinctive profile cuts through the air with optimal efficiency and quietness.

Elevating GMC’s new design, the all-new Terrain Denali will feature its signature satin chrome grille along with Denali-specific accents including body-color fascias, lower trim and door handles, plus bright roof-mounted side rails, and chrome outside mirrors and body-side molding. Additionally, LED headlamps and 19-inch ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels are standard on Denali.

All other models feature signature LED running lamps and tail lamps. Bi-functional HID headlamps are standard on SLE and SLT. Additionally, 17-inch wheels are standard on SLE, with 18-inch wheels available on SLE, and standard on SLT.

Turbocharged propulsion choices

A range of two all-new turbocharged gas engines, including the new 1.5L and 2.0L turbocharged gas engines, matched with two unique new nine-speed automatic transmissions, with the 2.0L turbo engine offering stronger acceleration and a higher degree of performance than its 1.5L counterpart.

GMC’s new Electronic Precision Shift enables more storage room in the center console by replacing the conventional transmission shifter with electronically controlled gear selection consisting of intuitive push buttons and pull triggers.

The Terrain comes standard with GMC’s driver-controllable Traction Select system, which has choices for different driving conditions. Elements such as the throttle responses are optimized for the selected driving mode. AWD models include a FWD mode that disconnects the AWD system to minimize drag and optimize fuel economy, while the AWD mode offers all the benefits of an active AWD system.

Refined, versatile and purposeful interior

Like the exterior, the new Terrain’s interior makes a statement and serves as a fundamental component of the vehicle’s heightened emphasis on refinement and functionality. Elements such as authentic aluminum trim, soft-touch materials on the instrument panel and doors and standard active noise cancellation are premium features seamlessly integrated into the interior design for a luxurious customer experience.

The Terrain Denali heightens the GMC experience throughout the new interior with a unique trim tint color and Denali-specific logos and piping on the front seats. Denali customers will benefit from additional standard features including a heated steering wheel, navigation, Bose premium 7-speaker sound system and a hands-free programmable power liftgate.

An expanded center console with pass-through storage underneath adds to the Terrain’s functionality. A new fold-flat front passenger seat and flat-folding rear seat help Terrain offer greater versatility for stowing longer items and make it easier to load cargo. There are also new under-floor compartments in the cargo area for more secure storage.

GMC keeps passengers connected with 7-inch and available 8-inch-diagonal infotainment systems, featuring compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are subject to their terms, privacy statements and data plan rates.

Expanded range of safety features

An expanded range of available active safety technologies is designed to enhance driver awareness and even help make it easier to park and maneuver in low-speed situations. The features include radar and camera-based adaptive technologies that can provide alerts to potential crash threats, allowing the driver to react and make changes to potentially avoid them, including:

  • New Surround Vision
  • New Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator
  • New Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking
  • New Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert

The new Terrain also features GMC’s new Rear Seat Reminder. Rear Seat Reminder alerts drivers to check the back seat as they exit their vehicles under certain circumstances.

Six family-focused features define GMC’s crossovers

The 2018 GMC Acadia and all-new Terrain offer great versatility and refinement, with advanced safety technologies

The men and women who designed, engineered, tested, and built the GMC’s 2018 crossovers, Acadia and all-new Terrain, aren’t only professional-grade engineers and designers – many of them are parents. By blending personal experience with feedback from customers, GMC were well set to equip the new Acadia and all-new Terrain with a variety of family-focused features.

As contemporary vehicles designed for families on-the-go, both the Acadia and all-new Terrain are reimagined crossovers aimed at the heart of the mid-size and compact SUV segments respectively. Both models are designed to offer greater versatility and refinement, with more advanced safety technology and efficient powertrains.

Six of the family-focused features which the Acadia and all-new Terrain have to offer include:

Image-4_Rear-seat-reminder-in-the-all-new-2018-GMC-Terrain

1. Rear seat reminder

The GMC Acadia and all-new Terrain are equipped with Rear Seat Reminder, an industry-first feature.

Over the last few years, there have been a number of reported cases in the GCC where children have suffered from severe heatstroke when left unattended in vehicles. The Rear Seat Reminder feature is an initial step towards using technology to help remind drivers to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle.

The system monitors rear door usage and if one of the doors is opened and closed within ten minutes of the engine starting, or while the vehicle is running, Rear Seat Reminder will provide an audible and visual reminder to the driver once the engine is switched off. However, the feature doesn’t actually detect items in the back seat, so it is always important to check the rear seat prior to exiting the vehicle.

2. Smart storage

Just like at home, clever organization plays a big part in keeping Acadia’s or all-new Terrain’s handsome cabin tidy and functional for everyone inside. Up front, the driver and passenger have access to large pockets on both the door panels and the sides of the center console. Second row passengers are given two tiers of storage pockets in the door panels, along with a new innovative pull-out drawer in the back of the center console, which is perfect for storing toys, headphones, electronics, and other small personal belongings.

3. Easy trunk access

Parents often have their hands full, both literally and figuratively. The Acadia and all-new Terrain can help to lessen the load, especially when it comes to lifting luggage. The Hands-Free Power Programmable Rear Liftgate enables it to open and close at the push of a key fob button, and can be set to open at varying heights in order to fit inside the owner’s garage.

Additionally, both the 2018 Acadia and all-new Terrain feature an optional power liftgate which allows the trunk to be opened by simply kicking a foot underneath the left corner of the rear bumper without a key.

GMC has also made it easier to fold the second-row seats in the all-new Terrain and both the second- and third-row seats on Acadia in order to gain added luggage space when needed. A pair of levers in the trunk area allows each half of the second-row seats to be folded flat with just a light pull, while third-row seats in the Acadia fold using an easy pull strap on each seat back.

4. Charging and connectivity throughout

From connectivity hubs to entertainment centers, smartphones and tablets are used for almost everything – and there’s always a need to keep them charged while on-the-go. Acadia and all-new Terrain accommodate a plenty of power outlets placed throughout their cabins. The driver and front passenger seats are fitted with a 12-volt outlet along with two USB charging ports, while a wireless charging pad is exclusively available as standard on the all-new Terrain Denali.

Rear passengers aren’t left out either – second row passengers can utilize two USB charging ports, while third-row passengers in the Acadia also have a USB port of their own. Both Acadia and all-new Terrain

5. Smart slide seating

The 2018 Acadia offers seating for up to seven passengers, split between second and third row seating – yet climbing back into the third row isn’t a chore. With the Smart Slide Seating, each side of the second-row seat can easily slide forward with a slight push. Better yet, if a child safety seat is installed in the second-row passenger seat, Smart Slide can still function without having first to remove the child safety seat.

Designed to be versatile, the all-new Terrain offers a front-to-back flat load floor including new fold-flat front-passenger and second-row seats, which help the driver utilize every inch of the trunk space.

6.Rear-seat entertainment options

To keep the kids entertained with a movie or a favorite show, those with a traditional DVD library, the Acadia and all-new Terrain can be equipped with a rear-seat dual-screen entertainment system with DVD player and wireless headphones as a additional accessory. Families who prefer tablet-based entertainment are also in luck, as available accessory rear-seat tablet holders allow tablets to be positioned perfectly for second-row passengers to enjoy.

The latest range of active safety features are also available on both the 2018 Acadia and all-new Terrain, designed to help make drivers more aware of their surroundings and prevent potential crash situations. Those features include, Forward Automatic Braking (available on Denali), Following Distance Indicator, Surround Vision Camera System and Safety Alert Seat.

2018-GMC-Yukon-Denali

GMC has announced first details of the exciting line-up of models that it will be showcasing at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show (14-18 November 2017). GMC’s all-new 2018 Terrain and 2018 Yukon Denali will both make their Middle East debuts, while visitors to the show will also be able to view a new special edition concept model, on display for the first time anywhere in the world.

It is fitting that the Middle East’s leading motor show will host the global reveal of the new special edition. GMC can proudly point to a long and rich heritage in the Middle East, the only region outside North America where it is marketed. The brand, affectionately known across the region as ‘Jims’, entered the market in the 1930s with 4×4 and 6×6 vehicles that were specifically developed for desert use. Its range of pick-up trucks, SUVs and crossover vehicles are renowned for their capability, innovation and engineering excellence.

Sajed Sbeih, Head of Brand for GMC Middle East, said: “With GMC’s long-standing presence in the region, it was a logical step for us to choose to unveil this special edition concept at the Dubai International Motor Show. We’re pleased to be able to give visitors to the show a real ‘world first’, as well as ‘regional firsts’ including the all-new 2018 GMC Terrain and newly designed 2018 Yukon Denali.”

A redesigned, second-generation version of GMC’s premium compact SUV, the all-new 2018 Terrain offers greater refinement and versatility and is packed with more standard and optional features and advanced safety technologies than ever before. The all-new styling signals the next chapter of the brand’s design language, evolving its signature cues with stronger, sharper and more sculpted elements. Also debuting at the show will be the 2018 Yukon Denali, featuring styling and trim enhancements, as well as a new, advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. Paired with the premium SUV’s 6.2L V-8 engine, this new gearbox enhances refinement with world-class shift smoothness, responsiveness and quietness, enabling a lower numerical top gear ratio and contributing to greater efficiency.

“GMC’s rise as a premium brand is very much reflected by the striking design and confident stance of the all-new Terrain, and this new design language is set to elevate the whole brand as it is applied across other models in the future,” added Sbeih. “At the same time, the Denali sub-brand continues to set the bar for GMC performance, technology and luxury, so the 2018 Yukon Denali is ideally placed to appeal to customers around the Middle East.”

The Acadia range will complete the GMC line-up at the show, represented on the stand by the premium 2018 Acadia Denali. Also available as an All-Terrain model with enhanced off-road capabilities, the GMC Acadia crossover is aimed at the heart of the midsize segment and designed to offer great versatility and refinement with more advanced safety technology and a more efficient powertrain, along with a legacy of functionality and spaciousness.
