The Pontiac GTO is an automobile that was built by Pontiac in generations from 1964 to 1974 model years, and re-appeared again from 2004-2006 by GM’s subsidiary Holden in Australia.

For the 1964 and 1965 model years, the GTO was an optional package. The GTO became its own model from 1966 to 1971. It became an option package again for the 1972 and 1973 intermediate Le Mans.

The Goat as Muscle car fans like to call it, marked the debuted of the Muscle Cars Era in USA in 1964 despite the fact that several fast V8 vehicles were built by other manufacturer since the 1930’s however the GTO had a new distinguished character defining what muscle cars stand for: “attitude” — a bigger V8, hood scoops (phony ones), the rumble of dual exhausts, a Hurst shifter, racy trim and so much more.

To give you a piece of history why it was called “The Goat”, it all starts with the acronym GTO, which stands for Gran Turismo Omologato. The GTO naming was taken from the Ferrari 250 GTO.

The meaning of the letters GTO denotes that this car is eligible to be entered in races like the LeMans and stock car races. This translation leaves little doubt that the Pontiac GTO was created with racing in mind. Surprisingly, the GTO was the idea of a GM advertising agency executive and John DeLorean, one time Pontiac chief engineer and later an automaker himself.

Afterwards and since the Americans have a history of shortening the names of cars with multiple syllables, this likely has influenced the nickname of this Pontiac brand and so the name “Goat” was born. “The Goat” is catchy, easy to remember and was essentially born out of convenience.

The 1967 GTO was built in three different models. There was the 2-door coupe, the two-door hardtop and the 2-door convertible.

1970 Cuda Vitamin C

The muscle cars era defined from 1964-1974 has produced so many powerful and iconic Classic American Sports cars which are known today as Classic Muscle Cars. The competition was severe between the giant automotive manufacturers that created a battle between Mopar and non Mopar.

This time we have selected one of the most legendary Moparian cars ever built which is the 1970 Plymouth Cuda owned by Abdullah Hakim member of El Mafia Group muscle cars.

Here’s a brief history about the progress of Playmouth Barracuda Muscle Cars throughout the years:

The Plymouth Barracuda is a two-door car that was manufactured by Plymouth from the 1964 to 1974 model years.

The first-generation Barracuda, a fastback A-body coupe based on the Plymouth Valiant, had distinctive wraparound back glass and was available from 1964 to 1966.

The second-generation 1967 to 1969 Barracuda, though still Valiant-based, was heavily redesigned. Second-generation A-body cars were available in fastback, notchback, and convertible versions.

The 1970 to 1974 E-body Barracuda, no longer Valiant-based, was available as a coupe and a convertible, both of which were very different from the previous models. The final model year for the Barracuda was 1974.

Three versions were offered for 1970 and 1971: the base Barracuda (BH), the luxury oriented Gran Coupe (BP), and the sport model ‘Cuda (BS).

So how was the name Cuda born and is it a shortened name for Barracuda?

“Cuda is not slang for Barracuda”. Pre-1970 there was not a Cuda option it was just a nickname. The Cuda term was coined on the street, similar to the “Goat” for GTO’s, and the factory tuned in quickly and made it an option for 69. Also for 69, both the Barracuda and Cuda shared the same first two digits of the VIN with the Model and Price Line “BH” with B for Barracuda and H for High for both Barracuda and Cuda.

1970 brought the introduction of the third generation E-body Barracuda and first generation Challenger. The Cuda option continued with the VIN changing to “BS” (B for Barracuda and S for Special). The option remained until the demise of the model in 1974. On the other hand the Challenger R/T with VIN prefix “JS” with J for Challenger and S for Special ended with the 1971 model year.

“Cuda” is a performance package on a Barracuda as Trans-Am is to a Firebird or S.S. is to a Camaro or GT. is to a Mustang or RT. is to a Challenger.

1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Make : Ford
Model : Mustang Mach I
Year : 1969

Owner : Bassam Salman
Country : Lebanon

Let’s start with the basic, “Ford” a well-known American Auto Maker, add to it the word “Mustang” and you just stepped to a whole new level, now The term ‘Mach 1‘which is a scientific term used to describe the speed of sound. Now try to combine “Ford” “Mustang” “Mach1” and you will get an American muscle car with performance beyond compare from back in 1969. During that era, Mustang buyers had a lot to choose. Starting with the regular base Mustang, GT version, Mach package, GT350 Shelby car, GT500 also Shelby, Boss 302 all the way up to the Boss 429. In this case we are looking at 69 Mach 1.

The Ford Mustang 1969 production reach 299,824 units out of which 72,458 were Mach 1.

As for the ‘thing’ under the hood, there are several options for the 1969 Mustang: 351 cu in (5.8 L) Windsor-tall deck V8, 351 cu in (5.8 L) Cleveland Ford 335 engine V8, 390 cu in (6.4 L) V8 and 428 cu in (7.0 L) CJ/SCJ V8.

The 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet engine is very similar to the Police Interceptor 428. The combination of the Super Cobra Jet pack and the style of the Mach 1 really end up to an unbelievable car.

As for our engine, this Mach I is powered by a 351 ci 4V V-8 producing 290 hp with a 3 speeds automatic transmission special police interceptor.

Color is grabber blue, not the standard paint color for the 1969; it was created especially for police vehicle however it was added to the 1970 production.

The Mach1 replace the GT as the premier performance Mustang, it was based on the Sports Roof and came with a long list of features. The hood was painted flat black along with a similarly nonfunctional hood scoop, reflective side and rear stripes were coordinated to complement the body color. Adding to the racer image were the NASCAR hood pin latches, a deletable option Chrome styled steel wheels and a chrome pop-open gas cap among others.

The Mach I package was again released in 2003-2004 on the new style Ford Mustang after it went out of production back in 1978, the Mach I remains an icon of performance look upgrades for the all-powerful Ford Mustang.

Some muscle cars are all about speed, others are all about style. This 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has both.
