The new MG RX8: MG Motor reveals first details of its first-ever seven-seat SUV

MG Motor has revealed the first details of its first-ever seven-seat SUV as the British-born automotive brand prepares to introduce the all-new MG RX8 SUV to showrooms region-wide in September this year. Prices start from $21,850* for the entry level model up to $25,700* for the top of the range trim.

A robust and spacious SUV – with the largest wheelbase in its segment – the new seven-seater introduces MG Motor to a segment it has previously never been present in. The MG RX8 is a fully equipped 4×4 with six different driving modes. Its strong truck chassis frame is capable of handling the toughest off-road terrains, and is powered by an efficient 220HP 2.0-litre turbo engine.

Its spacious modular interior features adjustable rear seats and the largest third-row space in its segment. An array of premium materials including wood grain and soft-touch trim gives the RX8 a high-class feel. And, modern features such as a 10-inch touch screen in-car entertainment system, ventilated seats and wireless mobile device charging capabilities make the RX8 the perfect partner for an active family.

Tom Lee, SAIC Motor Regional Director – the parent company of MG Motor – said: “For the first time in our 95-year history MG Motor is introducing a seven-seat SUV. With the all-new MG RX8, we are making a bold move into a segment we’ve never operated in before, and I am confident that this car will make an impact amongst its competitors.

2019 sees us introduce three fantastic new products to the Middle East – the MG RX8, MG HS and MG5. With these new products, our Middle East model line-up is stronger and more appealing than ever. The MG brand is growing in the region, and across the globe; our total global sales for the first half of 2019 exceeded 120,000 units.

As we enter unchartered territory for the brand with the new RX8 I am confident that we can offer a robust, practical and well-equipped SUV in a segment which is remarkably popular here in the Middle East.”

MG Motor introduces new MG GS 2019 to the Middle East

MG Motor has announced the arrival of the New MG GS 2019 in the Middle East. While the previous generation MG GS was the first SUV to be launched by the British-born car brand onto the global market, the new, improved model now takes a major step forward with its refreshed and practical interior, high levels of equipment and dynamic design.

The New MG GS is available across the region in two trim levels: 2.0T COM and 2.0T LUX AWD. With prices starting from just USD 17,200, depending on market, MG’s SUV offers fun family versatility in a highly affordable package.

The changes are immediately visible from the outside, with the New GS showing off a sportier, yet more aggressive look from the front. The newly designed bumper helps to improve aerodynamics and is nicely complemented by a larger grille and redesigned air intake.

The enhancements continue on the inside thanks to the noticeably higher quality finish, with many hard corners and plastic having been replaced. More than 80 percent of the surfaces are now covered in soft-touch material, an impressive 30 percent more than in the first-generation model. Making it as quiet as it is comfortable, MG has worked hard to reduce cabin noise.

The central console has been completely revamped to offer a more premium finish and greater functionality. It integrates new 360-degree air conditioning vents, while a revised compressor contributes to both enhance the system’s operation and reduce noise. New, sportier seats contribute to the heightened levels of comfort and style within the cabin.

The new console now also features a new 8-inch, quick response, high resolution touch screen, which allows users to manage multilanguage features such as POI Search, with Navigation and an offline GCC map with ease.  The multi-functional steering wheel has also been redesigned with a smaller diameter and three spoke design, offering improved handling and control.

The New MG GS, in keeping with the brand’s reputation for delivering excellent value for money, is exceptionally well-equipped. Standard features on both models include electric folding mirrors, an electrically-operated sunroof, keyless entry, cruise control, a push-start button, auto-hold function, hill-descent control, reversing sensors and a parking camera. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay.

There is ample room in the New MG GS, including 24 different storage spaces. The rear seats can be completely laid flat, expanding the trunk capacity from 434 litres to a whopping 1,336 litres and allowing easy storage of large items. And passengers also benefit from plenty of room in the smart cabin, thanks the new model’s dimensions – it is longer, wider and taller than its key competitors.

Equipped with a 2.0T powerful engine, mated to a smoother 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddleshift gearchange, the New MG GS delivers maximum power of 221hp and maximum torque of 350Nm. It is available with either 2-Wheel Drive or a new All-Wheel Drive, with the latter ensuring a smoother ride by adjusting the torque distribution faster than the previous model. Thanks to an overall improvement in the rigidity of the suspension set-up, the stability of the new model has been improved and cabin noise significantly reduced.

As befitting a family-focused car, safety is a key priority with the New MG GS, which has been awarded 5-star C-NCAP ratings. Standard safety features include ABS, EBD, ESP and six airbags.

Commenting on the New MG GS, Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director, SAIC Motor Middle East said: “The first-generation model helped to introduce our brand to customers in the Middle East. The New MG GS arrives at a time when we are experiencing significant growth in the number of MG cars being bought across the region. Crafted to high standards of design, technology, comfort and safety, it reinforces the quality of the MG line-up and we are confident will help to boost the growing popularity of the brand.”

Since its acquisition of MG Motor, SAIC MOTOR, as a Global Top 500 company, has opened a new chapter for this British-born brand. The introduction of the second-generation MG GS follows the launch of two SUV models earlier this year, the MG RX5 compact SUV and the MG ZS SUV. Together, these models join the existing MG 360 to complete the brand’s Middle East line-up.

MG Motor launches iLink for the Middle East Market

MG Motor has introduced its innovative new iLink application to the Middle East market, making life easier for its growing number of customers. This smart phone application is the first in the Middle East to combine both dynamic and service features in one, providing users with a direct connection to their car. Key features allow users to monitor their driving history, receive service reminders, be alerted if their car is damaged, and track their vehicle.

The innovative smart application, which is compatible with all MG models, ensures peace of mind by reminding customers when a service is required. Users can track their vehicle using geo-location identification, helping owners if they misplace their vehicle in a car park or lend their vehicle to a friend. MG iLink is the only application in the market to offer punch sensor technology, which alerts the driver if their vehicle is damaged, whether it is parked or being driven by a friend or a valet driver.

Customers using MG iLink will also be able to step into a pre-cooled vehicle during the summer, using the application to turn on the engine, and consequently the air conditioning, in advance of getting into the car. During prolonged periods when the vehicle is not in use, the application can be used to schedule a time for the engine to be turned on for an hour every day.

The ‘driving history’ feature can also be used to monitor driving behaviour, customers will be able to use MG iLink to download a daily report which tracks how much fuel they have used over a particular period, the locations visited and fuel costs. By viewing the history of all driver’s customers can ensure everyone is driving safely and maximising fuel efficiency.

Commenting on the new application, Tom Lee, Managing Director, SAIC Motor Middle East said: “MG iLink is being launched specifically for the Middle East market. The application, which aims to ease life and provide peace of mind for our customers, features pioneering technology that highlights MG Motor’s commitment to being at the forefront of technology and innovation within the car industry.”

MG-ZS-crossover-Arab-Motor-World-01

MG Motor has announced that its new MG ZS crossover is now on sale across the Middle East, bringing premium style, without the premium price tag, to customers across the Gulf region. Prices for MG’s new crossover start at around US$12,000 (depending on market) for the entry level 1.5L STD model.

The new MG ZS enjoyed its Middle East show reveal at the Saudi International Motor Show in December, and is now available in three high value trim levels – 1.5L STD, 1.5L COM and 1.5L LUX – the perfect option for buyers seeking a good-looking, well-equipped, well-built car at a sensible price.

The arrival of MG’s new crossover marks an exciting new era of design for the famous British car brand with the introduction of a totally new design philosophy. Based on ‘Emotional Dynamism’, this more expressive design language showcased by the MG ZS is set to feature across all upcoming models, and emphasises the premium experience and commitment to quality of the ambitious brand.

A distinctive grille, increased MG branding and a delicate front end give the car a refined look that carries through its sweeping corners to the robust rear end. A combination of quality and a premium finish have been at the heart of MG’s design philosophy for the MG ZS, with every surface, material and fitting selected for its visual impact, as well as durability and longevity.

Commitment to design excellence is continued in the interior of the MG ZS, with touches that nod to a dynamic and exclusive space for the driver, while being accessible and user-friendly for any passengers. More than 80 percent of the exposed surfaces are covered with soft materials, and a colour contrast from the dark grey base creates a layered effect.

A trend for ‘bigger’ connectivity means MG’s inkaLink system, with 8” infotainment screen and Apple CarPlay, will become a signature of MG going forward as it looks to target a younger generation. A remote smart application will allow the driver to operate vehicle functions such as remote start and stop, manage air conditioning, vehicle tracking and aftersales appointments. It even reminds owners of the services needed for the car.

The MG ZS provides some of the most generous shoulder, leg and headroom capacities in its segment, ensuring a premium travelling experience for driver and passengers alike. A massive 448 litres of boot capacity plus a split-level boot provide plenty of room for all manner of luggage, while there are numerous compartments throughout the car for additional storage. It offers a classic dual colour leather interior and an optional panoramic sunroof (available soon).

With a New Generation NSE Major 1.5L engine it can travel 100km on just 5.8 litres, giving it unrivalled fuel efficiency for its class. When it comes to performance, this efficient petrol unit delivers maximum power of 119 hp and 150 Nm of torque. Delivering true driving excellence, the MG ZS offers three power assisted steering modes – Urban, Normal and Dynamic – which are designed to give the driver complete control. It is equipped with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard features on all models include one-button start, power adjustable wing mirrors, manual air conditioning, a 60/40 rear seat, height-adjustable steering column and a front armrest. Image-1-MG-RX5-Arab-Motor-World

The new MG RX5 compact SUV is now officially on sale across the Middle East, heralding the latest exciting chapter in the rejuvenation of the famous British brand. Customers can choose MG Motor’s new ‘hero SUV’ from a collection of four well-equipped models, and two available powertrains, with prices starting at around US$14,200 (depending on market).

The new MG RX5 will appeal to a range of customers across the region, especially younger buyers looking for value for money in a stylish, technologically-advanced package that allows them to stand out from the crowd. Equipped with a 1.5T petrol engine and 7-speed automatic gearbox the MG RX5 is available as entry level STD or mid-range COM models. The more powerful 2.0T powerplant is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and is offered for either COM or top-of-the-range LUX trim levels, with the latter featuring All-Wheel Drive.

Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Middle East, the parent company of MG Motor, said: “Embodying the positive, new direction that MG is taking, the new MG RX5 is the latest model to join our exciting range of stylish, hi-tech vehicles. As MG builds momentum across the Middle East, boosted by the appointment of new dealers in markets such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, we are confident that this new compact SUV will prove extremely popular among the region’s car buyers.”

The MG RX5 showcases an attractive, futuristic design that is instantly recognisable, notably at the front where the stylish square LED headlamps, imposing wing-shaped grille and innovative foglamps endow it with real on-the-road presence. Sporty five-spoke, two-tone 18” rims on COM and LUX models combine with a sharp waistline that rises from front to rear to enhance the dynamic look. At the rear, a chrome plate stretches out to the dual tail lights, visually extending the vehicle width – reminiscent of the style of certain premium German models.

Inside the cabin careful attention has been paid to delivering an extremely high quality finish, with the use of high grade material, chrome edging and soft-touch material covering 80% of the surfaces. A supersize, opening panoramic sunroof floods the interior with light, accentuating the best-in-class space that it offers. Helped by the 2700mm wheelbase, and total length of 4545mm, rear leg space (982mm) and head space (987mm) are significantly better than in rival cars.

MG’s new compact SUV delivers practicality and convenience. The flexible rear space incorporates adjustable, fold-flat seats with split/fold function, while there are multiple storage spaces throughout the cabin for bottles, mobiles and cups in addition to a large boot area. Useful technology offered as standard on most models includes remote, one-touch opening of the rear hatch, keyless entry, a start button and an AutoHold function.

Image-4-MG-RX5-Arab-Motor-World

A clever remote smart application will allow the driver to operate vehicle functions such as remote start and stop air conditioning, vehicle tracking and aftersales appointments. It even reminds owners of the services needed for the car. And for a hi-tech generation, there is a 10.4” high-definition infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Navigation on the COM and LUX versions and an 8” colour navigation system for STD models.

Power is derived from a choice of two turbocharged engines. Both 2.0T and 1.5T units, which are mated to six and seven-speed transmissions respectively, provide impressive performance and efficiency. Delivering maximum power of 221 hp and torque of 350 Nm, the 2.0T engine can accelerate the MG RX5 from 0-100kmh in 8.2 seconds, while the efficient 1.5T powerplant returns top figures of 169 hp and 250 Nm.  A smart All-Wheel Drive system with new generation electromagnetic torque management guarantees impressive off-road performance for LUX models.

Great performance isn’t compromised when it comes to safety, with the MG RX5 offering a wide range of passive and active safety measures. The efficient braking system reduces stopping distances by two metres in comparison to key rivals, while standard ESP with traction control, a curving braking control system and MSR (Motor control Slide Retainer) all contribute to a safer journey. Passive safety features include a strengthened body structure that uses thermal formed steel, multiple airbags, automatic unlocking in the event of a collision and a collapsible steering column. All of which has helped the MG RX5 earn a 5-star rating in the C-NCAP crash tests.

The entry level 1.5T STD exemplifies the comprehensive equipment levels of the MG line-up. Owners benefit from Automatic Air Conditioning, front and rear electric windows, cruise control, multi-adjustable front seats, and a remote trunk opening function as standard. When it comes to safety, ABS, EBD, Auto Hold, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Hill Descent Control are just some of the standard features to equip the high value 1.5T STD model.

The MG RX5 COM specification comes with either a 1.5T or 2.0T engine. All COM models add front foglamps, a rear parking camera and audible warning system, leather steering wheel and luggage curtain, to the list of features offered on the STD model. In addition, an 8” colour touch screen and Apple CarPlay are also standard.

Drivers of the top-of-the-range 2.0T LUX model are positively spoilt, with electric folding wing mirrors, LED headlamps, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, additional airbags, an auto-dimming rear view mirror and a huge panoramic sunroof with anti-trap mechanism all standard. As is MG’s smart All-Wheel Drive system.
