The private reception was also attended by Dan Balmer – President Aston Martin Lagonda Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, and a select group of customers and media representatives.

The impressive 521-square-metre showroom, the third for Aston Martin in the Kingdom, is centrally located on Tahlia street and showcases a full line-up of the latest second-century Aston Martin models, including the DB11, Vantage and DBS Superleggera. Designed to the highest standards, it consists of a main showroom, an area dedicated to demo cars, an innovative car delivery space, Q Lounge and a specialised configuration zone.

Sheikh Ali Hussein Alireza, Managing Director of Haji Husein Alireza & Co. Ltd. emphasised the importance of the new showroom, “We have seen a vast increase in demand for luxury cars in Jeddah, which encouraged us to strengthen our presence here. This opening is a fitting testament to our commitment to Aston Martin and represents a new era for us in Saudi Arabia, offering a platform for us to solidify our standing as a leading car dealer in the Kingdom.”

Drawing focus to Aston Martin’s commitment to environmental responsibility, use of cutting-edge technologies and its continuous quest to pave the way for development in the automotive industry, a Rapide E cutaway model was showcased at the event. Recognised as the world’s first electric four-door luxury GT, the Rapide E is Aston Martin’s first Battery Electric Vehicle, developed with a limited production run of 155 units with Williams Advanced Engineering.

The Rapide E will be powered by an 800V battery electrical architecture – the first BEV to market with such high capacity – which powers two rear-mounted electric motors producing a combined target output of just over 610PS and a colossal 950Nm of torque. Projected top speed for the Rapide E is 155mph, with a sub-4.0sec 0-60mph time and a 50-70mph time of just 1.5sec, while retaining and enhancing the feel, character and delivery of the V12-engined Rapide S.

The Jeddah official opening also saw the DBS Superleggera unveiled for the first time in the Kingdom. Clad using immaculately sculpted carbon fibre body panels, this latest model has muscular and highly individual styling. A look that’s perfectly matched by epic performance courtesy of Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12, tuned to produce tremendous power and immense torque for breath-taking response and extraordinary in-gear performance.

Dan Balmer commented, “Saudi Arabia is an important market for Aston Martin, especially with our exciting line-up of second-century models and women starting to drive. DBS was the third launch of our seven all-new models, which will include our DBX SUV, to be unveiled later this year. As a real highlight for the Kingdom, this is the first time outside the UK that the
Rapide E technology is being showcased. The opening of this stunning new showroom in the heart of Jeddah underlines the successful long-term relationship between Aston Martin and Haji Husein Alireza & Co. Ltd and we are excited to see this relationship grow further in future.”

As the British marque’s magnificent new Super GT flagship, DBS Superleggera replaces the esteemed Vanquish S. With 725PS, 900Nm of torque, a top speed of 211mph and blistering acceleration that dispatches 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and 0-100mph in 6.4 seconds, DBS Superleggera is a car dedicated to delivering an unforgettable driving experience and class-leading in-gear acceleration, with 50-100mph achieved in fourth gear in a mere 4.2 seconds.

“The DBS Superleggera goes beyond the limits in celebrating the return of one of the leading names of the Aston Martin brand. Surpassing standards, it boasts remarkable features and dynamics that have been carefully honed to engage drivers wishing to own a car with a distinctive and powerful design and engineering feel, making it a true milestone for Aston Martin,” added Alireza.

The package also adds Intellibeam headlamp technology, which automatically turns on and off the vehicle’s high beam headlamps according to surrounding traffic conditions. The automatic high beams will stay on until it detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps or preceding vehicle’s taillamps.

Other safety features include the segment’s first Front Center Air Bag (front bucket seat models). This feature deploys from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and inflates between the driver and front passenger, providing added protection for both front occupants in side-impact crashes.

Available active safety features use camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors to help avoid crashes. Yukon includes the GM-patented Safety Alert Seat that vibrates if the system determines the driver is at risk of colliding with another vehicle. A standard rear vision camera shows the area immediately behind the vehicle in the audio system screen. It’s especially helpful when hooking up a trailer.

Along with driver alert features, standard chassis control crash-avoidance technologies include GM’s StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, trailer sway control, hill-start assist and four-wheel, four-channel anti-lock brakes. Nissan-GT-R50-by-Italdesign-EXTERIOR-IMAGE-1-source

Collaboration between Nissan and Italdesign reimagines Nissan’s GT-R as a custom-bodied, ultra-limited edition supercar

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign –the ultimate expression of the GT-R – made its Middle East debut today at Dubai Autodrome, as part of a global tour.

The showcase of the GT-R50 prototype in the region followed its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The sports car is on a global tour that has encompassed Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Monterey Motorsports Reunion in the U.S and Nissan Crossing in Japan. Following the success of this tour, a unique and exclusive limited edition, inspired by the prototype, is being produced for enthusiast customers. The production run will be limited to no more than 50 vehicles in the world.

Nissan collaborated with Turin, Italy-based Italdesign to create the model, based on the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO. The GT-R50 celebrates the convergence of two key anniversaries; 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world, and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through the iconic GT-R.

The 50 GT-R50s set to be produced celebrate half a century of engineering leadership. The cars pay tribute to Nissan’s legendary takumis – craftsmen who have hand-built every GT-R engine for the past 50 years. While the prototype vehicle was finished in a special gray with gold accents, customers will be able to specify their preferred color combinations for the production version. They also will be able to choose interior colors and packages.[1]

Commenting during the launch, Kalyana Sivagnanam, Regional Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Nissan AMI and President of Nissan Middle East: “Continuing our long and proud motorsport heritage in the Middle East, we are thrilled to bring the exclusive GT-R50 to customers and fans in the region. The Nissan GT-R is one of the world’s most iconic supercars, and the GT-R50 by Italdesign is the GT-R taken to the next level, with no compromise in performance, styling or craftsmanship. The GT-R50 is the perfect embodiment of the Nissan brand and an ultra-limited collector’s edition for true enthusiasts who want to own the very best Nissan has to offer.”

The Nissan GT-R in the Middle East

The Nissan GT-R, whether on the road or on the track, has been a strong symbol of Nissan’s engineering excellence for the last half a century. It has also held a special place in the hearts of Middle East consumers, and its popularity is continuing to grow. Monthly sales figures show that Nissan is on track to double its share of the premium sports car market by the end of fiscal year 2018 compared to 2016, making the Gulf one of the largest markets for the GT-R anywhere in the world.

The Middle East is also the location where the GT-R broke a Guinness World record in 2016, for the fastest ever vehicle drift. Driver Masato Kawabata (Japan) reached staggering 304.96 km/h (189.49 mi/h) while driving a Nissan GT-R NISMO at Fujairah International Airport.

“It is fitting GT-R50 is making its regional debut here as the GT-R nameplate has a special connection with customers in the Middle East,” added Juergen Schmitz, Managing Director of Nissan Middle East. “GT-R, like Nissan, offers something genuinely different from anything, or anyone, else and is an important differentiator for Nissan in the Middle East. GT-R is the perfect mirror of our brand, reflecting the boldness that defines Nissan. This exclusive 50th Anniversary Edition is further proof of Nissan engineering and advanced technology.”

Precision + craftsmanship + brute force

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign starts with Nissan’s latest GT-R NISMO and re-interprets it with a European-style sensibility – combining brute force with Italian craftsmanship and tailoring. With a special power plant that boasts up to 120PS over the stock engine, as well as chassis and driveline upgrades, performance backs up the new look.

Italdesign developed, engineered and built the car. The distinctive, crisp exterior and interior designs originated from Nissan Design Europe and Nissan Design America. Key design features include a pronounced power bulge on the hood, stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline, and prominent “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels. A large, adjustable rear wing, mounted with two uprights, completes the overall look. The exterior is finished in a Liquid Kinetic Gray color, with distinctive Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary accents.

Inside, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign reflects its modern, high-performance pedigree. Two different carbon fiber finishes are extensively used across the center console, instrument panel and door linings. The seats feature black Alcantara® and fine black Italian leather. Gold accents echo the exterior treatment throughout the cockpit.

Underneath its new shape, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is all business. Drawing on Nissan’s extensive GT3 racing experience, the NISMO organization enhanced the hand-assembled 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine to produce an estimated 720PS and 780 Nm of torque. A revised Bilstein suspension damping system and upgraded Brembo braking system help handle the extra power.

The 2018 F-150 is the distillation of more than 100 years of truck development and the refinement of 42 years of F-Series leadership, making it the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever. It’s also the safest, with the inclusion of Ford’s new Co-Pilot 360’s suite of driver assist technologies.

Building on its proven heritage, the F-150 is available with a choice of three engines, three cabin styles, and three bed lengths. It comes with muscular styling, segment-first and class-exclusive driver assist technologies and even more features that allow owners to explore the great outdoors with unwavering confidence. Customer research shows that buyers bank on the F-150’s reputation for power and safety – and it’s in these areas that this Built Ford Tough truck continues to lead.

All-new Co-Pilot 360

Co-Pilot 360 is a package of technologies that help keep drivers, occupants and even pedestrians more protected than ever before. New Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection monitors the F-150’s proximity to other vehicles and pedestrians up front and will alert the driver with visible and audible warnings. In extreme cases, and if the system determines a collision is imminent, active braking may automatically apply full braking.

Blind Spot information system, or BLIS®, uses radar to identify a vehicle entering the blind spot and alerts the driver with an indicator light in the side-view mirror. Its range can be extended to include a conventional trailer once programmed into the system. Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) can warn drivers of traffic approaching from either side when the truck is backing out of a parking space. It uses the same radar sensors as BLIS and automatically engages when the driver selects reverse.

The toughest, most powerful F-150 ever

Based on its proven chassis – the strongest ever developed for the F-150 – and class-exclusive all-aluminium body, the 2018 truck’s standard, all-new 3.3-litre Ti-VCT V6 engine delivers where it matters most, with higher towing capability, more payload capacity and better fuel efficiency than the engine it replaces. The engine comes fitted with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with standard auto-start/stop technology.

The 3.3-litre engine is joined by an enhanced version of the trusted and proven 5.0-litre Ti-VCT V8. Fed by a new dual-injection system which, when coupled with a higher compression ratio and upgraded main and connecting rod bearings for greater durability, sees the V8 produce an impressive 395 horsepower and 542Nm torque.

The second generation 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine remains the best choice for those who need to balance outright performance with ultimate fuel efficiency. Paired with the 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, engine torque is instantly available for exceptional low-end and peak performance. With class-leading 637Nm torque on hand, the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6-powered F-150 is equipped to handle heavy loads, tow loaded trailers and tackle the region’s toughest terrain. Properly equipped, the truck has a class-topping tow capacity of almost six tonnes.

The FX4 Off Road package is available on XL to Platinum models and is designed to give the F-150 even more capability off road. The package includes a lock rear differential, underbody skid plates that protect the front differential, transfer case and fuel tank, Hill Descent Control and off-road tuned shock absorbers. Drivers can also monitor the action via the truck’s productivity screen.

Convenience, at the press of a button

The F-150 is built to work, and the cargo box is designed to make that easier for owners. The new tailgate features a rugged F-150 stamping on all models from XL to King Ranch, and the tailgate can be locked, unlocked and lowered via the key fob. The class-exclusive tailgate step and support make accessing the cargo box easy, while LED lights illuminate the area efficiently. Owners can also add class-exclusive LED sideview mirror spotlights to help illuminate camp sites at night.

Class-exclusive stowable loading ramps are available to help make loading ATVs, motorcycles and other equipment easy, while Ford’s BoxLink features four removable and lockable premium cleats provide additional tie-down points to help secure loads.

World-class sound quality and connectivity

A new B&O Play Premium Audio System by HARMAN is available, unlocking the power of your favourite music through the tailored tuning and calibration of ten strategically placed speakers around the cabin. Ford’s SYNC 3 system allows hands-free control of calls, music and more, while the eight-inch screen provides bold, clear and precise information. SYNC 3 is also Apple CarPlay compatible, meaning iPhone users can use Siri’s functions to access favourite songs and playlists, and Apple Maps for voice-guided navigation. There are also two smart-charging USB ports to help keep your devices powered up and ready to go, and a power outlet for heavy duty tools and devices in the dash.

“With Kona, we are reaching out to customers who place great importance on design and technology, and who want the newest and best – they want to stand out from the crowd,” said Mike Song, Hyundai’s Head of Operations for Africa and the Middle East. “Kona is a lifestyle statement, expanding our extremely successful SUV range in an exciting new direction, while also ensuring that we offer excellent value to our customers. It’s a unique proposition that will resonate strongly with younger drivers, and we believe the Kona will be a very strong seller among young female drivers.”

Recognizing the Hyundai kona’s strong appeal to style-conscious young women, Hyundai chose Jeddah in Saudi Arabia as the regional launch venue for the new model, and Saudi Arabia will also be the first market in the region to receive shipments of the Kona to showrooms. Hyundai will offer a special Saudi ladies’ edition, with options including an ‘abaya alert’ function – warning if an abaya is likely to be trapped by a closing door among other extra features.

Stylish design and advanced technology enabled for individuality

The Hyundai kona is cool and confident – a completely new character in Hyundai’s SUV line-up. Its front is expressive and powerful, characterized by the Cascading Grille, the company’s family identity. The bold front and rear is emphasized by the car’s wide stance and its voluminous, confident body styling. Optional 18-inch alloy wheels further contribute to the bold character of the car. The two-tone roof and the wide choice of distinctive exterior colors offer a high degree of personalization for buyers: You drive it, You define it.

The interior design reflects the exterior theme. Customers can personalize the interior of the Hyundai kona with three distinctive colors: Orange, Lime and Red. The floating navigation touchscreen, in its ergonomic position, allows drivers to stay tuned to the traffic ahead at all times.

Hyundai’s new Kona features a head-up display which projects relevant driving information directly into the driver’s line of sight. The Display Audio allows passengers to mirror their smartphone’s content onto the system’s 7-inch display via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, where available. An optional 8-inch infotainment system integrates navigation, media and connectivity features. For even more connectivity comfort, the optional wireless inductive charging pad (Qi standard) charges the passengers’ smartphones and connects mobile devices with USB ports and AUX jacks. Kona also offers a high-end, premium eight-speaker sound system by audio manufacturer Krell.

With Hyundai Smart Sense active safety and driving assistance systems, the Hyundai kona is one of the safest vehicles in its segment, proven by a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The list of available safety features includes Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist, High Beam Assist with Static Low Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning.

Hyundai will initially offer two highly advanced engine and transmission options for the Kona in Africa and Middle East markets: a 1.6-litre T-GDI, or a 2.0-liter MPI Atkinson cycle unit.

The Hyundai ‘Gamma’ 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol engine is offered with four-wheel drive and is paired with a 7-speed double clutch automatic transmission (7DCT). The engine, which delivers 177 PS / 130 kW and 265 Nm torque, handles every environment with ease. The turbocharger is equipped with an electronically-controlled waste-gate actuator which improves fuel efficiency by reducing pumping losses as well as improving throttle response and low-end torque. The unit features a six-hole GDI injector, pressured to a higher-than-average 200 bar, securing a clean combustion.

Hyundai’s in-house developed 7DCT transmission combines the benefits of manual and automatic transmissions. Furthermore, it improves fuel consumption and CO2 emissions up to 20 per cent compared to a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission. The Kona’s four-wheel drive offers customers a true SUV experience with up to 50 per cent torque distributed to the rear wheels. The on-demand system increases traction on difficult surfaces, while enhancing cornering performance on the road. The differential can be manually locked for a torque distribution of 50 percent up to a speed of 40 km/h.

The Hyundai ‘Nu’ 2.0-liter MPI Atkinson delivers combination of power, efficiency and low emissions that’s unique to Atkinson cycle technology. The normally aspirated engine delivers 149 PS / 109.5 kW and 180 Nm torque, and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission engineered for reduced friction losses and improved power transfer to produce quicker acceleration, lower N.V.H. and better fuel efficiency.

Directly below the touchscreen are functional features such as climate and volume control knobs and media connectivity ports.

Jeep Wrangler has always stood out for its functionality and the ability to give drivers the possibility to enjoy any adventure with the utmost ease. The all-new Wrangler is no exception, offering a host of clever storage solutions, durable mesh pockets that extend the entire length of the doors, cup holders and numerous phone storage areas. The glove box is now damped and like the center console, can be locked to safely secure valuables when the top is down. An under-floor storage area behind the rear seat provides room to secure small items out of sight.

The available all-new Trail Rail cargo management system allows easy access to the contents in the cargo area and provides additional storage options to organize and secure cargo. There is also a functional new “screws and bolts” organizer at the bottom of the trunk, to store away individual screws, and a tool kit with instructions inside the central armrest. Both the tool kit and organizer were designed to hold the screws and bolts of the Wrangler’s tops, doors and foldable windshield when driving open-air, and underline how everything onboard the iconic Jeep has been engineered for easy, practical usage.

One of Wrangler’s unique characteristics is the entirely washable interior and the protective rubber cover for the infotainment system screen, that allow easy clean ups in complete peace of mind.

Reliable body-on-frame design at the heart of legendary Jeep capability

Thanks to its body-on-frame design and superbly engineered five-link suspension system, Wrangler delivers benchmark 4×4 capability, with improved on-road driving dynamics, passenger safety and a more comfortable driving experience. The use of lightweight, high-strength aluminium closures – including doors, door hinges, fender flares, windshield frame and magnesium swing gate – contribute to reduce the overall vehicle weight, improving its fuel efficiency. The all-new Wrangler’s suspension has been tuned to optimize on-road handling and ride comfort without sacrificing off-road capability.

Powertrain for the all-new Jeep Wrangler

The upgraded 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine delivers 285hp @ 6,400 rpm and 347 Nm of torque @ 4,100 rpm, and now features Stop-Start (ESS) as standard equipment. It was engineered to provide a broad torque band with a focus on low-end torque – an essential trait a vehicle with extreme off-road performance levels such as the Wrangler.

The new eight-speed automatic transmission enables the vehicle to optimize engine output while on the trails or enjoying smooth, efficient power delivery at highway speeds. Uniquely suited to the requirements of the all-new Wrangler, the new automatic gearbox delivers unmatched off-road capability.

MG Motor introduces new MG GS 2019 to the Middle East

MG Motor has announced the arrival of the New MG GS 2019 in the Middle East. While the previous generation MG GS was the first SUV to be launched by the British-born car brand onto the global market, the new, improved model now takes a major step forward with its refreshed and practical interior, high levels of equipment and dynamic design.

The New MG GS is available across the region in two trim levels: 2.0T COM and 2.0T LUX AWD. With prices starting from just USD 17,200, depending on market, MG’s SUV offers fun family versatility in a highly affordable package.

The changes are immediately visible from the outside, with the New GS showing off a sportier, yet more aggressive look from the front. The newly designed bumper helps to improve aerodynamics and is nicely complemented by a larger grille and redesigned air intake.

The enhancements continue on the inside thanks to the noticeably higher quality finish, with many hard corners and plastic having been replaced. More than 80 percent of the surfaces are now covered in soft-touch material, an impressive 30 percent more than in the first-generation model. Making it as quiet as it is comfortable, MG has worked hard to reduce cabin noise.

The central console has been completely revamped to offer a more premium finish and greater functionality. It integrates new 360-degree air conditioning vents, while a revised compressor contributes to both enhance the system’s operation and reduce noise. New, sportier seats contribute to the heightened levels of comfort and style within the cabin.

The new console now also features a new 8-inch, quick response, high resolution touch screen, which allows users to manage multilanguage features such as POI Search, with Navigation and an offline GCC map with ease.  The multi-functional steering wheel has also been redesigned with a smaller diameter and three spoke design, offering improved handling and control.

The New MG GS, in keeping with the brand’s reputation for delivering excellent value for money, is exceptionally well-equipped. Standard features on both models include electric folding mirrors, an electrically-operated sunroof, keyless entry, cruise control, a push-start button, auto-hold function, hill-descent control, reversing sensors and a parking camera. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay.

There is ample room in the New MG GS, including 24 different storage spaces. The rear seats can be completely laid flat, expanding the trunk capacity from 434 litres to a whopping 1,336 litres and allowing easy storage of large items. And passengers also benefit from plenty of room in the smart cabin, thanks the new model’s dimensions – it is longer, wider and taller than its key competitors.

Equipped with a 2.0T powerful engine, mated to a smoother 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddleshift gearchange, the New MG GS delivers maximum power of 221hp and maximum torque of 350Nm. It is available with either 2-Wheel Drive or a new All-Wheel Drive, with the latter ensuring a smoother ride by adjusting the torque distribution faster than the previous model. Thanks to an overall improvement in the rigidity of the suspension set-up, the stability of the new model has been improved and cabin noise significantly reduced.

As befitting a family-focused car, safety is a key priority with the New MG GS, which has been awarded 5-star C-NCAP ratings. Standard safety features include ABS, EBD, ESP and six airbags.

Commenting on the New MG GS, Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director, SAIC Motor Middle East said: “The first-generation model helped to introduce our brand to customers in the Middle East. The New MG GS arrives at a time when we are experiencing significant growth in the number of MG cars being bought across the region. Crafted to high standards of design, technology, comfort and safety, it reinforces the quality of the MG line-up and we are confident will help to boost the growing popularity of the brand.”

Since its acquisition of MG Motor, SAIC MOTOR, as a Global Top 500 company, has opened a new chapter for this British-born brand. The introduction of the second-generation MG GS follows the launch of two SUV models earlier this year, the MG RX5 compact SUV and the MG ZS SUV. Together, these models join the existing MG 360 to complete the brand’s Middle East line-up.

The most anticipated launch of the year – The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class arrives in style to the Middle East

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Dubai

The arrival of the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class was celebrated at Al Serkal Avenue in Dubai this week. The event introduced to the region the legendary flagship model – taking a leap into a new era in terms of technology while staying true to its unrivalled legacy.

Haven undergone its greatest change in history, the new G-Class maintains its iconic design and remains a benchmark for originality, ruggedness and luxury – with regards to comfort and safety. Beneath its classic rugged exterior lies the latest cutting-edge technology, giving its drivers a much better performance than ever before.

The new model presents itself in top form – whether on or off the road and whatever the operating conditions, the off-road vehicle impresses with its performance, advanced assistance systems, outstanding handling and safety.

At the same time, the new suspension, the DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes including the “Desert” driving mode designed specifically for the G 500 in the Middle East, the “G-Mode”- an intelligent off-road control system – and the three 100 percent differential locks enhance not only ride comfort but also agility – on any surface.

Commenting on the launch, Lennart Mueller-Teut, Head of Marketing and Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East, said: “The Middle East has eagerly awaited the launch of the latest G-Class. Being one of the first markets around the world to welcome this model, we believe our customers will be immensely satisfied with its new developments, especially innovations made specifically for the region – alongside its unparalleled performance, comfort and world-class safety systems. The G-Class remains an icon, only better and stronger – but at the same time stayed true to itself and kept its character”.

Reinterpreted for today

The luxury off-road vehicle from Mercedes-Benz has long been considered a design icon. In as much as the new G-Class is 53 mm longer and 121 mm wider than the previous model, its external appearance has not changed significantly since 1979. It follows the philosophy of Sensual Purity and at the same time remains true to the character of the original. Iconic elements continue to serve very specific purposes, now as then, and to give the G-Class its unique appearance. All these are still found in the new model: the distinctive door handle and the characteristic closing sound, the robust exterior protective strip, the exposed spare wheel on the rear door and the prominent indicator lights. Extraordinary features like these in concert with the off-roader’s angular lines define its special look – giving it an even greater presence, on the road as well as in terrain.

More than ever, the new G-Class appears to be cast from a single piece. All surfaces have a tauter design and have more tension, while the surface quality has been taken to an even higher level. This results in narrower, more precise gaps and more harmonious transitions. In addition, the wheel arches and bumpers form a more integral part of the body and thus look less like add-on features.

Interior: authentic icon

While the exterior maintains the iconic classic look, the interior of the G-Class has undergone a fundamental modern redesign. With its off-road character and top-class luxury appointments, the model has always combined two extremes into a harmonious symbiosis. Unmistakable at first glance and from the first touch, only high-quality materials are used. Every detail is finished by hand with the utmost care.

Getting in the G-Class reveals that numerous design features from the exterior have been transposed into the interior: the shape of the round headlamps, for instance, which is reflected in the side air vents and the design of the iconic indicators, found again in the shape of the loudspeakers. Hallmarks of the model include the grab handle in front of the front passenger and the chrome-highlighted switches for the three differential locks; both have been meticulously optimised and retained as characteristic features.

The very clearly arranged and completely redesigned instrument panel features timeless tube-look analogue round dials as standard – with two 12.3-inch displays blend visually into a Widescreen Cockpit beneath a shared glass cover. In other words, fans of classic round instruments will certainly not be disappointed in the new G‑Class. Drivers can choose between three different styles for the displays – “Classic”, “Sport” and “Progressive” – and also select relevant information and views according to their individual needs.

Off-road: the legend surpasses itself

The primary goal of development was to redefine the quality of the handling both on and off the road. This goal has been achieved: The new G-Class performs even better off-road, while on the road it is significantly more agile, dynamic and comfortable than its predecessor – thanks to its standard ladder-type frame, the three 100-percent differential locks and LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction.

The new suspension emerged from the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz GmbH and Mercedes-AMG GmbH. The result is an independent suspension with double-wishbone front axle in combination with a rigid rear axle. The new front axle is designed in such a robust way that the off-road performance and off-road capabilities of its predecessor are maintained and partly even surpassed.

On-road: agile, comfortable, superior

The specification for the G-Class not only included solidness and superiority in terrain, but also greater driving dynamics and comfort on paved roads. Thanks to the new front axle design, the on-road performance has therefore been enhanced at the same time. On the road, the “G” is as agile as it is comfortable and provides the driver with a better steering feel.

Using a digital prototype, the developers simulated the service life of individual components and closed systems to find out in which places it would be possible to make use of lighter raw materials. The diet worked, as the G-Class has shed around 170 kg. The recipe for success: a new mix of materials comprising strong, high-strength, ultra-high-strength steels and aluminium, as well as improved production processes at the Magna Steyr plant in Austria. The rigid body shell is now made of a variety of steel grades, while the wings, bonnet and doors are made of aluminium.

However, less mass in no way translates into less stability – on the contrary, it was possible to increase the torsional rigidity of the frame, body shell and body mounts by around 55 percent, from 6,537 to 10,162 Nm/deg.

The new “G-Mode” paves the way where there is none

One of the prerequisites for the improved off-road handling characteristics is the new “G-Mode”. The G-Class changes to “G-Mode” independently of the chosen driving mode as soon as one of the three differential locks has been activated or the LOW RANGE off-road reduction gear has been engaged. This off-road mode adapts the adjustable damping of the chassis and the steering as well as the accelerator characteristic, avoids unnecessary gear shifts and thus ensures optimum control and maximum off-road capability. Drivers are able to enjoy inch-perfect manoeuvring even in the steepest terrain and receive excellent feedback on the traction capacity of the surface.

New automatic transmission on board

For the transfer of power, the 9G TRONIC automatic transmission with torque converter was specifically adapted to meet the needs of the off-road icon. The developers have managed to reduce the shift and response times of the 9-speed transmission by means of a dedicated software application. The wide transmission ratio not only makes driving quieter and more comfortable especially at low engine speeds, it simultaneously also contributes to reducing fuel consumption.

The powerful Mercedes-AMG G 63

The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 underpins its unique position among performance off-road vehicles with the powerful drive system, the newly developed AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, the AMG-specific transmission modes and new interior with optimal widescreen cockpit.

The AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine now also replaces the previous 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine in the G 63. It generates 430 kW (585 hp) in this model and delivers a maximum torque of 850 Nm. This is available across a wide rev range between 2.500 and 3.500 rpm, providing a sense of effortless superiority. It absolves a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

The eight-cylinder delivers its power with muscular torque in all engine speed ranges, combined with maximum efficiency for low fuel consumption and emission figures.

Unmistakable design features give the new AMG G 63 its unique appearance: the boxy silhouette, the proud bonnet, external door hinges, round headlamps, mounted direction indicators, robust door handles, muscular protective strips with inserts in high-gloss black with a silver AMG emblem, the exposed spare wheel on the rear door with a stainless-steel cover and three-dimensional Mercedes star.

The front section of the G 63 is characterised by the AMG-specific radiator grille and the AMG bumper with large side air inlets and trim in matt iridium silver. The headlamps, indicators and tail lights are in LED High Performance technology as standard.

With adaptive adjustable damping: AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension

The new G 63 performs even better when off-road, and on the road, it is more dynamic and comfortable than its predecessor. The agile driving impression is substantial due to the suspension system, which has been completely redesigned by Mercedes-AMG and features coil springs all-round. For the first time the front axle has an independent, double wishbone suspension; a rigid axle with a five-link suspension is used at the rear.

The AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive adjustable damping is standard equipment. This fully automatic, electronically controlled system adjusts the damping at each wheel to the current requirements, improving driving safety and ride comfort.

Via a switch on the centre console, the driver can choose between three different sets of damping characteristics, namely “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+”, and thus individually influence the driving experience from very comfortable to taut and sporty.

Characteristics at the touch of a finger: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

For the first time in the history of the Mercedes-AMG G-Class, the driving characteristics can be individualised at the touch of a finger with five on-road and three off-road driving modes.

With the five DYNAMIC SELECT on-road modes “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+” and “Individual”, the characteristics range from efficient and comfortable to very sporty and “M” button to switch directly to manual mode.

Three off-road modes – “Sand”, “Trail” and “Rock” – are available when driving off the beaten track. These can then be selected with the DYNAMIC SELECT rocker switch. “Trail” allows maximum performance on soft, muddy or slippery surfaces. “Sand” modifies the parameters for sporty dynamics and the best possible grip and steerability on sandy stretches or desert sand dunes. “Rock” is the mode for extremely demanding, rocky terrain with severe axle articulation and frequent lifting of one or more wheels.

AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system

For more efficiency, Mercedes-AMG has equipped the V8 engine in the G 63 with the AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system. In the partial-load range, cylinders two, three, five and eight are deactivated, which significantly lowers fuel consumption.

The AMG main menu on the instrument cluster informs the driver whether the cylinder deactivation system is in use and whether the engine is operating in the partial or full-load range.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission with shorter shift times

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission is used in the G 63. This has a model-specific software application to achieve very short shift times. The multiple downshift function allows more spontaneous bursts of speed, while the double-declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport Plus” transmission modes make for an even more emotional driving experience. Defined engine manipulation makes for even faster gear changes.

“Manual” mode can be selected using a separate switch. The gear changes are based on the selected transmission mode, and the driver can now change gear using paddles on the steering wheel. Moreover, the transmission stays in the selected gear and does not automatically shift up when the engine speed reaches the limit.
