Kona Iron Man Edition SUV Makes Global Debut at 2018 San Diego Comic-Con

Kona Iron Man Edition

“My armor’s maneuverable, fast, and lots of fun at parties,” – Tony Stark. In Stark-like fashion, Hyundai unveiled a special edition Iron Man -inspired Kona SUV on the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Taking center stage at the Marvel booth, the Kona Iron Man Edition features both exterior and interior design elements that closely resemble and give a nod to the dynamic Iron Man suit. The Kona Iron Man Edition will be available to customers via a limited global production run. Production is scheduled to begin in December, with the first units available in the first quarter of 2019.

“Hyundai’s ongoing collaboration with Marvel is a great way for us to become a part of what people are interested in and engage with a highly passionate fan base,” said Vice President Minsoo Kim, head of Marketing Division, Hyundai Motor Company. “Our relationship is more than just product placement as we aim to create custom experiences that resonate with the Marvel audience. The Kona Iron Man Edition is a perfect example of blending our two worlds together into one special vehicle that we hope will excite fans of both brands all around the globe.”

“Seeing this car come to life is like wish fulfillment for so many of us,” said Mindy Hamilton, Marvel’s SVP of Global Partnerships & Marketing. “When you grow up reading comics, you dream of seeing that technology and those inventions become reality. We hope that everyone has just as much fun jumping into this one-of-a-kind vehicle as they would put on the actual Iron Man suit of armor!”

On the outside, the Kona Iron Man Edition has a unique front-lighting signature, including a custom daytime running light form that closely resembles the facemask and eye shape of the Iron Man suit. This shape is immediately recognizable and is one of the key design inspirations for Kona.

Besides the front fascia design and unique lighting signature, other Stark-like flourishes include an Iron Man mask motif on the roof, a unique V-shaped hood garnish, front-fender Iron Man mask badging, Stark Industries lower fascia and rear door decals, Iron Man-engraved headlamp internal surfaces, custom 18-inch alloy wheels with Iron Man mask center caps, an Iron Man engraving for the D-pillars, and a dark chrome front grille. The exterior color is an exclusive Iron Man red with matte gray.

Inside, Tony Stark’s signature adorns the instrument panel alongside a unique Iron Man shift lever knob, a special Head’s Up Display and center stack featuring Iron Man visual graphics, and a custom seat design.

The Kona Iron Man Edition is the latest project to emerge from the ongoing collaboration between Marvel and Hyundai. This summer, the all-new 2019 Veloster Turbo appears in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp. That integration was accompanied by a fully integrated marketing campaign that included new commercials and an interactive sweepstakes offering fans a chance to attend a pre-release screening of the film.

BESPOKE McLAREN SENNA WITH FULL VISUAL CARBON FIBRE BODY IN EMERALD GREEN TINT BY MSO ONE OF FIRST CUSTOMER DELIVERIES

The first North American designation of McLaren’s most extreme road car ever built, the McLaren Senna, has been delivered to customer Michael Fux in New York City. An entrepreneur, philanthropist and renowned car collector known for his eclectic taste, Mr. Fux’s Senna features an extensive list of bespoke content specified through McLaren Special Operations (MSO).

Perhaps most significant is the Full Visual Carbon Fibre Body, tinted in a custom emerald green colour known as “Fux Green”. Comprising 67 parts, the full body set takes almost 1,000 hours to produce. Blue and red wheel centre lock nuts and ball polished wheels complete the exterior, while the body colour is carried through to the interior, with “Fux Green” Tinted Carbon in Gloss Finish complemented by a bright white leather facia, seats, door uppers, and steering wheel, with green contrast stitching on the seats and steering wheel. The headliner remains in Carbon Black Alcantara®, while the door struts and rear-view mirror are painted in green.

“We’re pleased to deliver the first McLaren Senna in the North American market,” said Tony Joseph, President, McLaren North America. “This is such a special car, designed and engineered to be the ultimate road-legal track car ever produced by McLaren. We know that owners can’t wait to get their cars on the circuit, and we’re eager for them to get behind the wheel.”

Bearing the name of legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, the newest family member in the Ultimate Series was developed to be the most responsive and engaging road-legal McLaren ever, offering the purest connection between the driver and car. Though the engine specs are impressive — a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 800PS and torque of 800Nm for 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds and 0—124mph in a blistering 6.8 seconds — the aerodynamics on the McLaren Senna are arguably most noteworthy. The active front aero blades and an active rear wing contribute to up to 800kg of downforce, supported by the aggressive, form-follows-function design of the McLaren Senna that prioritises aerodynamic performance above visual appearance.

As with all McLaren road cars, the McLaren Senna features a carbon ‘tub’ — the Monocage II — which contributes to the lightest dry weight of 1,198kg, making the McLaren Senna the lightest McLaren since the iconic F1. The RaceActive Chassis Control II suspension ensures maximum stability under heavy braking, high-speed cornering and intense acceleration, while the next-generation carbon ceramic, motorsport-derived brakes and bespoke Pirelli P Zero™ Trofeo R tyres deliver a more connected driving experience and quicker lap times.

The “Fux Green” McLaren Senna joins a bespoke 720S that is also in Mr. Fux’s collection. Noted for its bright white interior and custom fuchsia exterior colour known as “Fux Fuchsia”, Mr. Fux’s 720S made a splash on the Concept Car Lawn at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. These supercars join his other McLarens – a 12C in McLaren Orange and a 12C Spider in bespoke purple.

Aston Martin V8 Cygnet: The Ultimate City Car

One of the most exciting, outrageous and diminutive creations ever to wear the famous Aston Martin wings will be making its world debut at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Dubbed the ‘The Ultimate City Car’, a one-off Aston Martin Cygnet has been built with a 4.7-litre, 430bhp V8 engine from the Vantage S and a very short torque tube.

The V8 Cygnet has been brought to life for a single customer through the ‘Q by Aston Martin – Commission’ service. This section of the British marque’s bespoke personalisation service allows the ultimate in freedom of expression when designing an Aston Martin and the V8 Cygnet continues to push these boundaries.

Aston Martin Vice President & Special Operations Officer, David King said: “The V8 Cygnet shows the fun side of both Aston Martin and its customers. It is also a fine example of the engineering talent within the company as it’s no small achievement to fit the Vantage’s V8 engine so harmoniously into the Cygnet’s compact body. I am sure that it will amaze and thrill people when they see and hear it on the hill at the Festival of Speed.”

Developed in-house by Aston Martin’s engineers, the starting point for the project was a right-hand drive Cygnet steel body shell and panels. A roll cage was welded to this, becoming an integral part of the chassis in the process, while a new front bulkhead and transmission tunnel were fabricated from sheet metal to accommodate the characterful 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 Vantage S powertrain. Subframes and suspension are also derived from the previous generation Vantage and a steel fuel tank housing has been mounted in the boot area, utilizing every inch of space.

Despite all this work, the car remains very recognisably a Cygnet from the outside. The face of the little Aston Martin remains largely untouched, with no extra bulges in the bonnet and just a subtle black mesh for the famous grille. However, there is no disguising the extra width of the wheel arches. In order to accommodate the significantly wider front and rear tracks, beautiful carbon composite flared extensions were made. These also house the new forged, five-spoke, diamond-turned wheels, which have grown from 16” to 19” in diameter.

At the rear of the car the distinguishing new feature of the V8 Cygnet is the central twin exhaust pipes. The exhaust is a bespoke system with twin underfloor mufflers and catalytic converters. With relatively short distances involved from manifold to tail pipe the V8 Cygnet has a voice that belies its compact size.

The engine itself is the 4.7-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 that is more usually found beneath the bonnet of the previous-generation Vantage S. Bespoke intake trunking had to be designed and there are twin conical air filters. There is no sense in which the engine has been neutered for the Cygnet, however, with power and torque figures remaining at 430bhp and 490NM (361lb ft) respectively.

The gearbox is also taken from the V8 Vantage S with a seven-speed Sportshift II transmission taking care of the shifting. Power is transferred via a miniature torque tube to the 9.5” rear wheels, which are complemented by 275/35 Bridgestone tyres.

Aston Martin V8 Cygnet

Weighing just 1375kg when full of fluids, the V8 Cygnet has a power-to-weight ratio of 313bhp/tonne. As a result, the V8 Cygnet is capable of accelerating faster than the V8 Vantage S with 0-60mph taking just 4.2 seconds. With a top speed of 170mph it is over 60mph faster than the regular Cygnet.

Braking is taken care of by 380mm discs clamped by six-piston monoblock calipers at the front and 330mm discs gripped by four-piston mono block calipers at the rear. The calipers are painted yellow to contrast with the Buckinghamshire green of the bodywork. Most of the remaining parts of the braking system are taken from the V8 Vantage S with ABS and a fixed brake bias valve. Inside, there is a bespoke brake pedal housed in the V8 Vantage-derived pedal box.

The rest of the interior is largely indicative of the fact that this V8 Cygnet could easily be used for competition. In addition to the roll cage there is a fully FIA compliant fire extinguisher system and seating is taken care of by composite, fixed back Recaro bucket seats with four-point harnesses. The alcantara covered steering wheel is removable and behind this sits a bespoke carbon dash with the familiar Vantage instrument cluster. There are, of course, little touches of luxury inside as well, with leather pull straps on the unique carbon door cards and two USB ports alongside the bespoke controls for the air conditioning.

This very special one-off Cygnet is a timely reminder of what a ground-breaking car the original was, bringing luxury to the city car segment. What’s more, the market place shows that prices of Cygnets are rising as it looks set to become a future classic. Of course, classic status is already almost assured for this new V8 version of the Cygnet that epitomises the concept of a ‘pocket rocket’ and is sure to be a firm favourite of the crowds at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend as it joins a plethora of other Aston Martins on the hillclimb.

Hyundai Teams Up With Maroon 5 Ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia ™ Celebrations

Hyundai Motor Company, the Official Partner of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, has teamed up with multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-winning US pop rock band Maroon 5, to pay tribute to reggae legend Bob Marley by covering his iconic feel good hit ‘Three Little Birds’ for its new brand campaign.

With its laid back, positive vibes, Three Little Birds is the perfect song to encourage football fans to forget their worries and focus on the tournament as a whole; embracing it as a celebration of sport, rather than experiencing the highs and lows of each match. Hyundai and Maroon 5 wanted to keep as close to the original song as possible as a mark of respect for Bob Marley and to capture its original spirit of peace and freedom.

Shot on location in LA, the accompanying music video is the creative brainchild of critically acclaimed Korean-American film and music video director, Joseph Kahn who has worked with artists including: Lady Gaga, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Christina Aguilera, U2, George Michael and Kylie Minogue, to name a few. In 2003 he won a Grammy and MTV VMA for Eminem’s ‘Without You’. He also recently won a second Grammy for Best Music Video of 2015 for Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ ft. Kendrick Lamar.

Joseph Kahn was also responsible for creating the new Hyundai television advert that will be broadcast during the 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA ™. Featuring Maroon 5 and shot against a football stadium backdrop, it shows the band performing their version of Three Little Birds while preventing some disasters from taking place.

The video is shot in a reggae designed world created to showcase the soul of a Maroon 5 performance. The silhouettes of the band are formed from natural materials including wood, stone, feathers and jewels, intercut with male and female reggae dancers bringing energy to the music.  The dancer’s bodies are then transformed into hundreds of miniature models of Hyundai’s new fuel cell electric vehicle, NEXO, driving in time to the beat, before being defined by beams of headlights illuminating their figures against a darkened background.

Maroon 5 said, “Bob Marley is one of the greatest artists in the history of music, he is truly a genius, so we were excited to be given the opportunity to cover ‘Three Little Birds” for Hyundai’s new campaign.”

Aside from music, football played a major role throughout the life of Bob Marley. He grew up playing the sport in fields and streets as well as in the recording studios. He supported Brazilian club Santos and idolized World Cup legend, Pelé. He famously said: ‘Football is a whole skill to itself. A whole world. A whole universe to itself. Me love it because you have to be skillful to play it! Freedom! Football is freedom.”

Head of Marketing Division, Hyundai Motor Company, Minsoo Kim said: “Hyundai has a long-standing history in football as a proud sponsor of FIFA since 1999. The partnership with Maroon 5 has allowed us to deliver a more innovative brand experience to our customers. For the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia ™ Maroon 5’s modern take on Three Little Birds tells people to forget their worries; reflecting Hyundai’s new brand campaign, ‘Hyundai exists to enhance everyday lives with quality time’, which informs customers about using our smart technology to keep safe and worry free while on the roads.”

This year, as well as working with Maroon 5 to release Three Little Birds, Hyundai Motor has also created the ‘FIFA World Football Museum’ exploring the history of football and fan culture for fans. There are also a number of exciting competitions throughout the tournament that fans can enter to win amazing prizes, including Hyundai Cheering Stadium, Be There With Hyundai, Hyundai Predictor’ and ‘Hyundai Goal of the Tournament. Yukon models are equipped with standard and available driver-alert technologies that add layers of crash-avoidance protection, as well as enhanced occupant protection in the event a crash occurs. They include an Enhanced Driver Alert Package, a forward radar system and the segment’s only Front Center Air Bag, providing added protection for both front occupants in side impacts.

When activated, the available Enhanced Driver Alert Package which includes Lane Keep Assist, gently steers the vehicle back into its lane when it detects the driver is inadvertently leaving the intended lane of travel. The package also includes IntelliBeam headlamp technology, which automatically turns on and off the vehicle’s high-beam headlamps according to surrounding traffic conditions.

Along with driver alert features, standard chassis control crash-avoidance technologies include GM’s StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, trailer sway control, hill-start assist and four-wheel, four-channel anti-lock brakes.

Available active safety features use camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors to help avoid crashes. Yukon includes the GM-patented Safety Alert Seat that vibrates if the system determines the driver is at risk of colliding with another vehicle. A rear vision camera is also standard, designed to show the area immediately behind the vehicle in the audio system screen.
