The NOVITEC Sports Package for the Ferrari 488 Pista

Even though the 488 Pista is powered by the most potent V8 the Ferrari engine department has ever developed for being driven on the road, the wish for even more power is inherent in the nature of sports car drivers. The NOVITEC engine experts specialize in making high-performance engines even more powerful. With its twin-turbo forced induction system, the 488 Pista offers the ideal conditions for further enhanced dynamics, which can be added in three levels.

To this end, the company adapts two NOVITEC N-TRONIC control modules to the engine electronics, which provide the engine controls with newly programmed mapping for injection and ignition while increasing the electronic boost pressure limit.

In order to optimize the power output even further and make the exhaust note even more thrilling at the same time, the installation of a NOVITEC high-performance exhaust system is advisable. The exhaust system comes in different versions with or without electronic sound management by means of actively controlled exhaust flaps. In addition, Pista drivers can choose between versions made from stainless steel or from the especially lightweight INCONEL, the same material also used for exhaust systems in Formula 1 racing. All NOVITEC exhaust systems are fully thermally insulated in order to have a positive effect on the temperature in the engine bay. Also part of the product range are 100-cell sport catalysts, which further optimize the power delivery.

In the most extreme expansion level the turbocharged eight-cylinder with NOVITEC engine tuning puts out 60 kW / 82 hp more than the production engine and also delivers an increase in torque by 128 Nm to now 898 Nm at a low 3,100 rpm. The boost in power to 590 kW / 802 hp at 7,950 rpm of course also benefits the performance on the road: The two-seat sports car does away with zero to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds. The top speed is 345 km/h.

However, the fascination of the NOVITEC performance upgrades for the Ferrari 488 Pista lies not only in the optimized acceleration and top speed: Just as fascinating are the even more instant throttle response and the even stronger pulling power on the road.

In the development of the NOVITEC naked-carbon bodywork components for the two-seater, the designers of the refinement specialist focused not only on spectacular looks, but also and above all on aerodynamic efficiency, which was accomplished in wind tunnel testing. The front fascia is extended forward with the NOVITEC spoiler blade, which provides a further reduction in aerodynamic lift at high speeds. A tailor-made molding for the hood rounds off the NOVITEC facelift for the front of the sports car.

The NOVITEC rocker panels are available to give the two-seater an even sportier appearance from the side and channel the airflow at the sides with even more precision. Subtle NOVITEC carbon covers for the side mirrors and the carbon triangles at the windows of the two doors add further sporty touches.

The rear end is fitted with a spoiler lip to achieve a sophisticated aerodynamic balance. The NOVITEC design package is rounded off with carbon surrounds for the two taillights.

Further NOVITEC hallmark features elaborate down to the last detail are the black side indicators and reflectors as well as the likewise black LED third brake light.

Of course, the tailor-made hi-tech forged wheels also have a decisive effect on the thrilling NOVITEC looks. NOVITEC was able to secure the services of renowned US manufacturer Vossen as a partner for the development and production.

The largest available variant is the NOVITEC NF10 forged rim, which offers a full-blooded racing design with center-lock look. To put even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the mid-engine sports car, the wheels with five double-spokes are mounted on the 488 Pista in a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 rims at the front and size 12Jx22 on the rear axle. NOVITEC chose Pirelli P Zero high-performance tires of sizes 255/30 ZR 21 and 335/25 ZR 22 as the optimal rubber.

The broad range of NOVITEC wheels for the lightweight-construction sports car also includes other exclusive rims in different combinations with diameters of 20, 21 or 22 inches.

Another NOVITEC hi-tech development is the hydraulic suspension system for the Ferrari 488 Pista. It lowers the ride height by about 35 millimeters. What is more: The hydraulic front lift system of the sports car allows raising the front axle by 40 millimeters at the touch of a button in the cockpit. This makes it easier to navigate ramps in parking garages or speed tables in city streets. The front end reverts to its original position at another touch of the button or automatically upon reaching a speed of 80 km/h. The stock damper adjustment of the vehicle is of course fully retained.

NOVITEC also offers individuality in its purest form in the interior. The company upgrades the cockpit with leather and Alcantara in any desired color and with any upholstery design by customer request.

The all new electric SUV:The Audi e-tron 50 quattro

Audi will be introducing a new power rating for its electrically driven SUV on the market in the coming year: the Audi e-tron 50 quattro. Its two electric motors have an output of 230 kW and develop 540 Nm (398.3 lb-ft) of torque. With a gross energy content of 71 kWh, the battery provides for a range of over 300 kilometers (186.4 mi) in the WLTP cycle. In Germany, the SUV—the entry-level model in the e-tron family—will start selling for less than 70,000 euros, which means that it fulfills the conditions for the environmental bonus.

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro combines a high level of efficiency and sporty performance. Just like the model originally launched on the market, the entry-level version also has an electric motor at the front and rear axles. With a combined total of 230 kW and 540 Nm of torque, they accelerate the electric SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds. Speed is electronically governed only at 190 km/h. In order to achieve the highest efficiency, only the rear electric motor is active in most driving situations, while the front electric motor is activated predictively when needed. The regulation of the electric all-wheel drive is extremely fast, highly connected and very precise. In combination with modern suspension components including air suspension and the low vehicle center of gravity, it provides excellent dynamics and stability.

The battery unit of the Audi e-tron 50 quattro comprises 324 prismatic cells combined in 27 modules. These store up to 71 kWh of energy – enough for a range of more than 300 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The high efficiency can be attributed to the newly calibrated drivetrain and various optimizations to the high-voltage system. The lower gross weight, which also reduces running resistance, contributes to this as does the efficient thermal management system with its standard thermal pump. This system regulates the temperature of the interior as well as the battery and cools the electric motors, the power electronics and the charger. In this way it ensures that the high-voltage components enjoy a long service life and enables fast charging with direct current (DC).

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro can charge with up to 120 kW at a so-called high-power charging station. This means that the electric SUV is all set for the next long-distance stretch of a journey in approximately half an hour. Alternatively, the battery can be supplied with alternating current (AC). At a charging capacity of 11 kW, this takes about seven hours. After the market introduction, a second, on-board charging device will be added to the offering as an option. It will allow charging using up to 22 kW at AC stations.

For charging at home, the Audi e-tron 50 quattro is equipped with the compact mobile charging system as standard. It supports a charging capacity of up to 11 kW when connected to a 400 volt industrial outlet. Up to 2.3 kW are possible with a 230 volt domestic outlet.

Like the more powerful version of the electric SUV, the Audi e-tron 50 quattro also recuperates energy via its two electric motors, preferably the rear one, during more than 90 percent of all deceleration actions. This means that the energy from practically all normal braking maneuvers is recovered and fed back into the battery. The newly developed wheel brake system with electrohydraulic actuation is activated only above a deceleration of more than 0.3 g. This results in short braking distances in all situations. The standard efficiency assistant also helps the driver to adopt an economical driving style through automatic recuperation and predictive information in the Audi virtual cockpit. The system uses radar sensors, camera images, navigation data, and Car‑to‑X information to detect the traffic environment and the route. In combination with the adaptive cruise assist, the efficiency assistant can also brake and accelerate the electric SUV predictively.

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro, which is being developed in the carbon-neutral plant in Brussels, will debut in the Middle East markets in the first quarter of 2020.

Cyan Racing breaks two Nürburgring records

The 528-hp Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 20,143 seconds, averaging 170,4 km/h, with Thed Björk, the 2017 World Champion of touring car racing, behind the wheel.

“We continued our development of the car in torrential rain and scorching sunshine on the most fearsome circuit in the world,” said Thed Björk, driver in the WTCR for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing.

“The car is rewarding to drive no matter the conditions, be it the Nürburgring or the autobahn. The record that we achieved here is something I rank on the same level as my racing titles and a highlight in my part of transitioning development from race to road cars.”

The lap time is three seconds faster than the record for four-door cars, formerly held by Jaguar, and 25 seconds faster than the record for front-wheel driven cars, formerly held by Renault.

The race engineers and drivers of Cyan Racing, the official motorsport partner to Geely Group Motorsport, have developed the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept as a road car version of the race car run by the team in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR).

The road car is developed by largely the same team that developed the previous concept cars of Cyan Racing, the 450-hp Volvo C30 Concept and the 508-hp Volvo S60 Concept.

“We continue to push past the boundaries and goals that we have set for the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept, a car that acts as a development platform for future Lynk & Co performance cars and parts,” said Henrik Fries, Head of Automotive R&D at Cyan Racing.

“While our main purpose for the many laps on the Nürburgring Nordschleife is development, the records that we broke are a true testament to the potential and capabilities of the Lynk & Co platform, as well as our engineering philosophy from more than two decades of motorsport and road car performance.”

Development of the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept will continue throughout the last part of the year, with the team turning attention to winter testing in the north of Sweden as part of creating a performance car for all roads, all seasons and all conditions.

The 7:20.143 lap record was set using the full 20,832km circuit layout as per the official Nürburgring standard and not the shorter 20,600km version as often used by other manufacturers. The Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept lapped the shorter version of the circuit in 7:15.123.

Cyan Racing also holds the lap record for the fastest ever front-wheel driven race car with the 2017 World Title-winning Volvo S60 Cyan TC1 – lapping the Nordschleife + GP circuit in 8:34.813, as well as previously holding the lap record for four-door road cars with the Volvo S60 Concept in 2016 with the time 7:51.110 on the 20,832km circuit.

Displaying a newly enhanced front end for the first time in North America, recently sculpted following wind tunnel testing and final design refinements, the Battista represented Automobili Pininfarina’s exciting future, while cars led by an incredible Lancia Rally 037 reminded the audience of what Pininfarina S.p.A. has established since 1930: a reputation for designing many of the world’s most desirable and beautiful cars.

Hyundai Motor Group Develops World First Active Shift Control for Hybrids to Enhance Fuel Economy and Joy of Driving

Hyundai Motor Group has developed the world’s first Active Shift Control (ASC) transmission technology. The innovation optimizes transmission efficiency by monitoring gear shifts 500 times per second, precisely adjusting the transmission rotation speed to for faster shift times. The new technology will premiere in the upcoming Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and eventually benefit other upcoming Hyundai hybrids.

ASC applies new control logic software to the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU), which then controls the electric motor to align the rotational speeds of the engine and transmission to reduce gear shift time by 30%. The technology also delivers smoother gear changes despite quicker shift times.

“The development of world’s first ASC technology is a remarkable innovation which incorporates precise motor control to automatic transmission,” said KyoungJoon Chang, Vice President and Head of Powertrain Control System Group of Hyundai Motor Group, “It will not only save fuel but also provide a more fun driving experience for our customers.”

Innovation: Independently Developed Control Logic Software Applied to the Electric Motor

Conventional hybrid vehicles do not have torque converters in order to further improve fuel economy as torque converters lose energy during the process of transmission. Although fuel efficient, such a system also requires longer shift times to ensure smoother gear changes.

ASC technology allows the hybrid’s electric motor to also take control of gear shifts by applying new software logic to the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) to mitigate issues with slower shift time. The HCU monitors the rotational speed of transmission with a sensor installed inside the electric motor at 500 times per second to quickly synchronize the rotational speed with that of engine.

With the synchronization, shift time is reduced by 30% from 500ms to 350ms. This not only improves hybrid vehicle’s acceleration performance and fuel economy, but also durability of the transmission by minimizing friction during gear shift.

The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato is handcrafting excellence

A never-to-be-repeated scene graces staff as they enter the impressive new Continuation build facilities at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, with no fewer than ten DB4 GT Zagato Continuation models currently going through a painstaking build process there.

Production of the brand’s most valuable new car to date is now in full swing at Aston Martin’s globally renowned Heritage Division headquarters, and the combination of artisan handcraftsmanship and modern production facilities and logistics means multiple Continuation cars can be, for the first time, constructed alongside each other.

But this is no ordinary car production line. Indeed, the word ‘line’ implies a procession of cars; however, at Newport Pagnell the process of hand-crafting the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation sports cars is much less clinical. Each individual Continuation sports car is the result of around 4,500 hours of detailed labour and meticulous handcrafting.

Built to race against the might of Ferrari in the 1960’s, the DB4 GT Zagato was a thoroughbred machine. Evolved for the rigours of motor racing and blessed with a rare and incontestable beauty, just 19 were built.

Each of the 19 DB4 GT Zagato Continuation cars is being built at Aston Martin Works to the highest possible quality using a blend of Sir David Brown-era old world craftsmanship, with the sympathetic application of modern engineering advancements and performance enhancements.

This latest continuation car follows the success of the 25 DB4 GT Continuation models that sold to enthusiast collectors in 2017, and precedes what will perhaps be the most ambitious continuation to date: the Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Edition cars that will come to market in 2020.

The BMW M1 Art Car Photoshoot

“I love this car. It’s more successful than the artwork,” was the opinion of Andy Warhol after his sweeping brush strokes had transformed the BMW M1. It took him less than half an hour to create the fourth exhibit in the BMW M1 Art Car Collection. 40 years later, enthusiasm for the mid-engined sports car remains unabated. Already world-famous at that time, the US icon of Pop Art shared the same passion with many automobile fans of that bygone era. And the fascination of the unique special created by Warhol has indeed increased. Many fans regard his BMW M1 Art Car as the highlight of the entire collection. It’s therefore hardly surprising that Munich-based automobile photographer Stephan Bauer spontaneously opted for the BMW M1 finished in the Warhol design when he was selecting his dream subject on four wheels. Last year, Bauer (29) emerged as the victor in the Social Media Contest “Shootout 2018” organised by BMW Group Classic and he was given the opportunity for an exclusive photo shoot with BMW Art Car Number Four. A series of photos was created to mark the 40th birthday of the BMW M1 designed by Andy Warhol. They provide a completely new perspective on one of the most legendary vehicles from the history of BMW.

Five photographic artists entered their best shots from the world of BMW classic cars in the “Shootout 2018” competition held on the Instagram social media platform. BMW Group Classic joined forces with BMW Culture, BMW Motorsport, BMW M GmbH and BMW subsidiary companies in several international markets for the joint project. It focused the attention of young target groups on the numerous motor-sport successes and record chases with vehicles and engines from BMW over the past 100 years. The prize for the winner was an enthralling photo shoot with a vehicle of their choice from the comprehensive collection of BMW Group Classic. The choice of the winner fell on the BMW M1 in the powerful 470 hp racing version produced in conformity with Group 4 regulations. 40 years ago, this automobile both celebrated its sporting debut in the Procar Series and entered the annals of Pop Art history. 

Against the backdrop of an old factory building in Cologne, Stephan Butler choreographed a spectacular contrast between the brightly coloured Art Car and the dour grey of the abandoned industrial structure. At a subsequent outdoor session, laser search lights shrouded the BMW M1 in a positively mystical atmosphere. In both settings, the Art Car kept emerging from a completely new perspective – and always to perfection. The results of the photo shoot are posted on the Facebook page of BMW Group Classic and on the Instagram Account of BMW Group Classic.

Andy Warhol’s Art Car proved to be a dream subject for the recent photo shoot in Cologne. The artist himself made things much more difficult for the photographers. 40 years ago, the cameras had hardly been set up when Warhol had already finished painting the bodywork in all the colours of the rainbow. As the artist explained later, his speed was a reflection of the statement made by his work of art: “I attempted to show speed as a visual image. When an automobile is really travelling fast, all the lines and colours are transformed into a blur.”

Very soon after the last brush stroke had been applied, the BMW M1 styled by Warhol demonstrated just how fast an artwork can be. In June 1979, the BMW M1 emblazoned with start number 76 competed in the 24 Hour Race of Le Mans. German driver Manfred Winkelhock, and Frenchmen Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot drove the Art Car to second place in its class and achieved a ranking of six in the overall standings.

The first models in the new series are the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range. The flagship Turbo S version of the Taycan can generate up to 761 hp (560 kW) overboost power in combination with Launch Control, and the Taycan Turbo up to 680 hp (500 kW). The Taycan Turbo S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo completes this sprint in 3.2 seconds. The Turbo S has a range of up to 412 kilometres, and the Turbo a range of up to 450 kilometres (according to WLTP in each case). The top speed of both all-wheel-drive models is 260 km/h.

The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. This is a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road: in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 kilometres (according to WLTP). The charging time for five to 80 percent SoC (state of charge) is 22.5 minutes for charging under ideal conditions, and the maximum charging power (peak) is 270 kW. The overall capacity of the Performance Battery Plus is 93.4 kWh. Taycan drivers can comfortably charge their cars with up to eleven kW of alternating current (AC) at home.

Pure exterior design with Porsche DNA

With its clean, puristic design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. From the front it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear. The highly sculpted side sections are also characteristic. The sleek cabin, the drawn-in rear C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the wings result in a sharply emphasised rear, typical of the brand. There are also innovative elements such as the glass-effect Porsche logo, which has been integrated into the light bar at the rear. With a Cd value from 0.22, the aerodynamically optimised basic shape makes a significant contribution to low energy consumption and thus long range.

Unique interior design with a wide display screen band

The cockpit signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and a completely new architecture. The free-standing, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. This places a clear focus on the driver axis. A central, 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look. All user interfaces have been completely newly designed for the Taycan. The number of classic hardware controls such as switches and buttons has been greatly reduced. Instead, control is intelligent and intuitive – using touch operation or the voice control function, which responds to the command “Hey Porsche”.

With the Taycan, Porsche offers an entirely leather-free interior for the first time. Interiors made from innovative recycled materials underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car. “Foot garages” – recesses in the battery in the rear footwell – ensure sitting comfort in the rear and allow the low vehicle height typical of sports cars. Two luggage compartments are available: the front compartment has a capacity of 81 litres and the rear 366 litres.

Innovative drive motors and a two-speed transmission

The Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo have two exceptionally efficient electric machines, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, thus making the cars all-wheel drive. Both the range and the continuous power of the drive benefit from the high efficiency of the permanently excited synchronous machines. The electric machine, transmission and pulse-controlled inverter are each combined into a compact drive module. The modules have the highest power density (kW per litre of package space) of all electric powertrains on the market today. A special feature of the electric motors is the “hairpin” winding of the stator coils. This technology makes it possible to incorporate more copper in the stator, increasing power output and torque while maintaining the same component volume. The two-speed transmission installed on the rear axle is an innovation developed by Porsche. First gear gives the Taycan even more acceleration from a standing start, while second gear with a long gear ratio ensures high efficiency and equally high power reserves. This also applies at very high speeds.

Centrally networked chassis systems

Porsche uses a centrally networked control system for the Taycan chassis. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in real time. The innovative chassis systems include adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology including PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control, as well as the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) electromechanical roll stabilisation system including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). The all-wheel drive control with two electric motors and the recuperation system are unique. At up to 265 kW, the potential recuperation power is significantly higher than that of competitors. Driving tests have shown that approximately 90 percent of everyday braking is performed by the electric machines alone – without the hydraulic wheel brakes being activated.

The profile of the different driving modes basically follows the same philosophy as in other Porsche model series. This is supplemented by special settings which enable optimum use of the purely electric drive. Four driving modes are available: “Range”, “Normal”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. In addition, individual systems can be configured as required in the “Individual” mode.

A world premiere on three continents at the same time

The Porsche Taycan’s world premiere took place simultaneously in North America, China and Europe with each event location symbolising a form of sustainable energy management. Located at the border between the US state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario, Niagara Falls represented hydropower, meanwhile a solar farm in Neuhardenberg, near Berlin represented solar power and a wind farm on Pingtan Island, around 150 kilometres from the Chinese city of Fuzhou in the province of Fujian represented wind power.

Model availability and pricing for the Taycan across the Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE region will be announced in the first half of 2020.

The all new and unique Audi RS 6 Avant

25 years of RS, 25 years of high-performance station wagons from Audi: With the new Audi RS 6 Audi Sport is ushering in a new chapter in the history of the high-performance Avant. Even more power combined with increased efficiency thanks to mild hybrid system turn the RS 6 Avant into the perfect companion for any purpose.

“Throughout our 25-year RS history, the Audi RS 6 Avant is one of our absolute icons with a large global fan base,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “We will also be offering the RS 6 Avant in North America for the very first time. Broad and powerful: the exterior design

The body style, which is unique in its segment, proves alluring the moment you set eyes on the new Audi RS 6 Avant, even when stationary. The RS model sports an emphatically differentiated design compared with the A6 Avant base model. With the exception of the front doors, roof and tailgate, the exterior is made up solely of RS-specific parts. The body, which has been widened around 40 millimeters on each side with its broad flared wheel arches, emphasizes the sporty flair and the distinctive character of the high-performance Avant. The 22-inch wheels accentuate the striking proportions.

The new RS 6 Avant is one of the first Audi Sport models to feature the new RS design language. Its entire front-end is differentiated to the maximum, providing a distinctive look within the A6 model line. In addition to the new hood together with powerdome, the RS 6 Avant also adopts the front headlights from the A7 model line. These not only come with a flatter, sportier expression, but also offer the option of the RS Matrix LED laser headlight with darkened trims as an additional USP of the RS 6 Avant in the A6 family. Similar to the LED rear lights, they feature a dynamic turn signal along with RS-specific sequencing when the vehicle is locked and unlocked.

The three-dimensional honeycomb structure within the Singleframe grill is finished in gloss black. In combination with the much flatter and wider geometry, this reinforces the athletic look of the RS 6 Avant. The Singleframe surround and the quattro logo in the bumper have been eliminated. Below the standard LED headlights, side air inlets open on the strikingly drawn new RS bumper and extend almost into the lower edge of the headlights. The designers have taken their cue from the front-end of the Audi R8 supercar.

Supreme power package: the engine

The 4.0 TFSI in the new Audi RS 6 Avant delivers 441 kW (600 PS) and 800 Nm of torque, which is maintained at this high level between 2,100 and 4,500 rpm. In just 3.6 seconds the high-performance station wagon sprints from zero to 100 km/h. And in a mere 12 seconds the RS 6 Avant reaches 200 km/h. Top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h. With the optional dynamic package, the RS station wagon does up to 280 km/h or even up to 305 km/h with the dynamic package plus.

Thanks to the 48-volt main electrical system the twin-turbo V8 combines maximum performance with high efficiency. The cylinder on demand (COD) system is also onboard as another efficiency component.

For all its efficiency the 4.0 TFSI develops a sporty, voluminous V8 sound. The driver can influence the engine sound using the Audi drive select system. The optional RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipe trims ensures a maximum sporty sound experience. In the customizable RS1 and RS2 modes, customers decide themselves whether the sound should be sporty or balanced.

Large choice: infotainment, assist systems, colors and materials

The new RS 6 Avant comes with extensive comfort, connectivity and driver assist equipment. In this way, it combines consistent sportiness with unlimited long-distance capability and assists the driver in many situations.

The paint range for the new Audi RS 6 Avant comes with thirteen colors, including the two RS-specific colors Nardo gray and Sebring black, crystal effect along with a choice of five matt effect paint finishes. The exterior mirror housings come standard in black and are optionally also available in the body color or matt aluminum. The matt aluminum, black and carbon styling packages change the vertical blades, the horizontal splitter, the sill inserts, roof rails and window slot trims as well as the rear diffuser trim. The Audi rings and the RS logos at the front and rear can also be finished in gloss black as an option for the black and carbon styling packages. The Audi exclusive range offers numerous other customization options.

The new Audi RS 6 Avant will go on sale in the Middle East dealerships in the course of the second quarter 2020.

World premiere for “New Volkswagen” at the IAA

At this year’s IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt, the Volkswagen brand is presenting its new logo and its new brand design to the public under the motto of “New Volkswagen”. After the Beetle and the Golf, the ID gene will usher in a new era for Volkswagen – electric, fully connected and balance sheet carbon-neutral. The strategic transformation with a reorientation of content and sustainable products, initiated almost 4 years ago, is now to become visible with the new brand design. All in all, the presentation of the brand is to become significantly younger, more digital and therefore more modern.

Volkswagen’s new visual language will be more human and more lively, focusing on customers and their lives.

Volkswagen’s Chief Designer Klaus Bischoff, who played a key role in the development of the new CI, said: “The new brand design reflects a type of mobility that forms a natural part of people’s lives. Volkswagen has always been a key element in these efforts. In the new age of mobility, the motto is ‘digital first’, without any filters.”

In contrast to normal practice in the industry, the new brand design was not developed by external agencies but by a joint team of Volkswagen Design and Marketing. The design was implemented with the full integration of all departments of the company in the record time of nine months using a powerhouse concept developed by Volkswagen especially for this purpose.

The new presentation will not only be bolder and more colorful but will also be digitally oriented from the brand logo through to the world of images. The brand’s visual language will be very different from that projected by Volkswagen to date. Jochen Sengpiehl, Chief Marketing Officer of Volkswagen, explains: “As a general principle, the aim in future will not be to show a perfect advertising world. In our presentation, we want to become more human and more lively, to adopt the customer’s perspective to a greater extent and to tell authentic stories.” In future, the focus will no longer be so much on the car as on people’s lives and mobility experiences.

The symbol and trademark will be the new logo. This will be more modern, clearer and simpler. The logo will be reduced to its essential elements and presented with a new design that is flat and two-dimensional. It will allow more flexible use and will be outstandingly recognizable in digital media. This also applies to the new brand signals such as pictograms, typography, colors or layouts. For the first time, the brand will have a sound logo, which will replace the former brand claim. In addition, the Volkswagen brand will have a female voice in the future.

The international roll-out of the new brand design will begin at the IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show in September. The starting signal will be given by the unveiling of the new logo on the high-rise building at company headquarters in Wolfsburg. The changeover is to be implemented in several waves using a cost-optimized, resource-conserving approach. Initially, the brand’s locations and dealers in Europe will be changed over, followed by China in October. The changeover will then be implemented step-by-step in North and South America as well as the rest of the world from the beginning of 2020. All in all, 171 markets will be affected. At the more than 10,000 facilities of dealers and service partners throughout the world, about 70,000 logos will be replaced. Volkswagen’s rebranding will therefore be one of the largest operations of this type in the industry world-wide.

The new brand design is the result of the Transform 2025+ strategy adopted by Volkswagen in the fall of 2015. The brand is now preparing for phase 2 of Transform 2025+, the roll-out of its e-mobility and digitalization strategy. This also includes the fundamental realignment of the company’s communications with its customers. As a manufacturer, Volkswagen will be in a position to communicate direct with the customer for the first time via the networking of the vehicle, dealers and customers in a Volkswagen ecosystem focusing on the customer. Volkswagen is being transformed from a pure automaker into a provider of mobility services going beyond the customer’s own car. For this purpose, the sales structure of the brand is being fundamentally transformed together with the dealers and marketing is being realigned.
