Driving the most beautiful car in the world “Velar”

VELAR

Back in November 2017, and while cruising the Dubai Motor Show my eyes fell on the most beautiful creation ever made, it was love at first sight.

Her body is sculptured with perfection, smoothness and exactly how you imagine it will be. If I wanted to create the perfect creature this is how I would have done it. A charismatic appearance, athletic silhouette, just enough rounded curves to make it attractive without overdoing it, the perfect shape with a magnetic rear that you literally cannot take your eyes off it.

So I came closer to her and ask about her name as she stood gracefully like a princess waiting for her prince charming for that first dance. The name by itself is glamorous and attractive it made me want to know her more. Let me stop here before my wife thinks I’m wooing one of the hostesses at the show. I was truly in love with the “Velar”.

Backing things up a bit, the Velar has one of the best designs in the world and has won several awards in that direction. Our Velar was coloured in one the most elegant colours a Flux Grey with Black Contrast roof and came with a burnished Copper Bumper accents, Range Roger badge on bonnets Vents with side vents, tailgate script for that extra sportiness. On top of that, it was equipped with a Matrix Laser LED headlights with Signature Daytime Running lights and coped with a 22” 9 Split-Spoke Style 9007 Diamond Turned finished. The Velar looks was out of this world.

Fast forward to our test drive, I took hold of the Velar keys and I was ready to drive this astonishing machine. The best part is when you click on the keys to open the door, the shaved handles pop out of the doors, I mean I did that phenomenon several times just to see how it opens and closes. The question is would you buy a car just for its handles? Well, I will.

Inside the cabin, it was a whole different story. Luxury, comfort and technology are what defines the interior of the Velar. The combination of colours of Nimbus/Ebony with Windsor leather and piano black with satin chrome defines the elegance within the Velar. The steering wheel by itself is a design prodigy with Satin Chrome gear shift pedals to enhance the sportier feel. Technology is purely defined by a 12.3” Interactive Driver Display and the Pro Duo touchscreen 10” high definition is the language of the future.

The Velar R-Dynamic came loaded with features that will make your life easier in every way such as enhanced navigation, infotainment and connectivity capabilities, Acoustic Laminated Windscreen, Solar Attenuating Glass, Infrared Absorbing Windscreen, 20-way heated and cooled memory, massage front seats with heated rear seats, Power Recline Rear seat, Split Armrest, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, illuminated metal front tread plates with R-Dynamic branding, Foot Pedal-metal Finish, Tailgate/boot lid-powered with Hands Free and most importantly for the best entertaining journey ever the Meridian Signature Sound System with 23 speakers including Subwoofer 1500 w output.

This SUV is not just a beautiful vehicle. It has comfort, future capabilities and most importantly driving capabilities that will surely surprise any car connoisseur. To prove its Off-roading and driving capabilities, we have decided to take the Velar on a desert Off-roading trip but with an aching heart, I mean why would you take such a beautiful sporty machine made to impress on tarmac roads out in the desert. So why we did it because we can and it can.

On sandy roads, the Velar performed incredibly. The 3.0-Liter V6 Supercharged engine coped with an 8-speed Automatic Transmission generating 357 HP was more than we needed to get through the sandy dunes of Dubai’s desert. Armed with the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) – Terrain Response 2-, Twin-Speed Transfer Box (High/Low Range) and Active Rear Locking Differential nothing was capable of stopping us. Sand was flying from all sides and the Velar was moving sideways as we turned off the Electronic Traction Control (ETC). it was drifting and dune bashing with elegance.

Our trip on the sand was over and it was time to hit the tarmac again. Adrenaline pumping and closed roads are a superb combination, so we floored down the pedal and we were in for a surprise. I mean the Velar can do 0-100 Km/h in just 5.7 seconds very impressive for an SUV in its class. After the rush, we reached the highway heading towards the hotel and we were exhausted. Throughout the journey, the Velar basically drove itself and even facilitated the parking process since it comes loaded with driving assistance and safety systems exceeding any expectations set out for this SUV. The Velar comes equipped with Torque Vectoring by Braking, Dynamic Response, Adaptive Dynamic Low traction launch Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), Anti-Locking Braking System (ABS), ESP, Roll Stability Control, Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electric Parking Brake, Electronic Air Suspension, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep assist, Driver Drowsiness Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control and queue assistant, Front and Rear Park Distance Sensor with visual display, rear parking aid Surround Camera System, Wade Sensing, Perpendicular Park Assist, Reverse Traffic Detection, Blind Sport monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing and so much more.

Our verdict on this SUV will be biased as we were truly madly deeply in love, we leave it up to you to decide if this the SUV of your dreams or not?

LAND ROVER ANNOUNCES 70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS WITH WORLD’S MOST REMOTE DEFENDER OUTLINE

After 70 years of all-terrain adventures and global expeditions, Land Rover has once again taken the Defender to new heights.

Stretching over 250 metres, the most remote Defender outline was imprinted on the side of a mountain in the French Alps. The unique snow art was created to announce World Land Rover Day on 30 April, exactly 70 years since the original Land Rover was first shown to the world at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show.

The unique image is a tribute to the moment when the engineering director of Rover, Maurice Wilks, first sketched the shape for the original Land Rover in the sand of Red Wharf Bay and proposed the idea to his brother Spencer, Rover’s managing director. The forward-thinking design was christened the ‘Land Rover’, the outline of which we now recognise as the Defender.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Prof Dr Ralf Speth, said: “Land Rover is an iconic brand around the world and the outline of the Defender is instantly recognisable. To reach the landmark of 70 years is truly special and we will mark it with a year of celebrations that represents Land Rover’s ‘Above and Beyond’ spirit and honours the people behind the world’s favourite SUVs.”

Land Rover is inviting fans to join the celebrations in a World Land Rover Day online broadcast. It stars the people who helped create the world’s most-loved 4x4s and Land Rover’s pioneering technologies, from its Series Land Rover and Defender origins, to the introduction of the Range Rover in 1970 and Discovery in 1989.`

Snow artist Simon Beck, who specialises in creating geometric outlines on foot, braved sub-zero temperatures to start the celebrations by creating the Defender outline 2,700m up at La Plagne in the French Alps.

To produce the high-altitude Defender, Beck walked 20,894 steps and 16.5km (10.2 miles) through the French Alps. He said: “Making my snow art requires endurance, accuracy and strength – all attributes shared with the Defender. Its iconic shape is so simple and recognised across the world; this must be the most recognisable piece of art I’ve ever made.”

World Land Rover Day is on 30 April. To watch the broadcast and take part in the celebrations, go to www.youtube.com/landrover at 20.00 BST, 22.00 KSA time and 23.00 UAE time and use the hashtag #LandRover70Years

LUXURY FIRST: RANGE ROVER SV COUPÉ DEBUTS AT GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

RANGE-ROVER-SV-COUPE-DEBUTS-AT-GENEVA-MOTOR-SHOW-Arab-Motor-World-(1)

Nearly 50 years ago, Land Rover created the luxury SUV sector with the introduction of the Range Rover. Now it’s defining a new genre with the world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupé: the limited-edition two-door Range Rover SV Coupé.

Created by Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations, SV Coupé is an exemplar of Range Rover design, craftsmanship and capability. It features a seductive body allied to the next-generation of cabin luxury – with the peerless all-terrain ability expected from Range Rover. No more than 999 will be hand-crafted by SVO for clients worldwide.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover SV Coupé is a celebration of the Range Rover bloodline. With a dramatic two-door silhouette, this breath-taking four seat coupé alludes to its unique heritage whilst being thoroughly modern and contemporary. Beautifully realised, superbly engineered, the Range Rover SV Coupé delivers the most distinguished, luxurious and exclusive Range Rover ever built.

Beautiful proportions with a powerful stance give SV Coupé unrivalled on-road presence. The signature floating roof, continuous waist and tapering tail are instantly recognizable Range Rover DNA, yet are expressed in a unique way for this exclusive addition to the Range Rover family.

SV Coupé’s purity of line is perfectly complemented by elegant power-close doors with frameless glass. In combination with the panoramic roof, light floods into the cabin, accentuating the relaxed, sophisticated and contemporary ambience.

Carefully curated body colour combinations, including a new Contour Graphic available in four duo-tone colourways, are offset by unique side vent and grille designs. This is also the first Range Rover with a 23-inch wheel option.

Enhanced luxury and exquisite craftsmanship extends inside too, with semi-aniline leather front seats bringing Range Rover’s already premium interior to a new level of luxury: accommodation comparable to private jets and yachts. Their gradated diamond quilt design is unique to SV Coupé.

Each SV Coupé will be hand-assembled to the client’s personal specification by the fastidious experts at the SVO Technical Centre in the UK – a first for Range Rover.

John Edwards, Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director said: “The introduction of the new SV Coupé brings a new level of individual expression to the Range Rover portfolio and builds on the success of Special Vehicle Operations’ existing bespoke Range Rover programme. Feedback from SV clients who have already seen the vehicle in confidential commissioning sessions has been overwhelmingly positive.”

SV Coupé clients can choose from four front-to-rear contrast interior colourways, or a range of single-tone interior colours. Both are complemented by a choice of three elegant wood veneers. A first for Range Rover is Nautica, which carefully balances heritage craftsmanship with new technology, fusing walnut and sycamore together.

Optional paint finishes include Liquesence, which brings a sensational liquid metal finish to Range Rover for the first time.

Additionally, Special Vehicle Operations’ bespoke personalisation team offers SV Coupé clients the opportunity to indulge their desire to create a truly unique vehicle to their exacting taste, granting access to 100 more paint colours, plus unique ‘match to sample’ hues, with a range of finishes; duo-tone front and rear leather colours with a bespoke quilt pattern; contrast stitching; headrest embroidery; doorhandle and treadplate engraving and semi-precious metal badging.

SV Coupé is also the fastest-ever full-size Range Rover, with a 165mph top speed. Powered by an exhilarating 565PS 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol powertrain, the most powerful engine ever placed in a full-size Range Rover, means SV Coupé hits 0-60mph in just 5.0 seconds.

Mark Stanton, Special Vehicle Operations Director, said: “As you’d expect from Range Rover, the engineering integrity in SV Coupé is more than skin deep. This is a meticulously honed vehicle that’s designed for SV clients who love driving.”

The suspension is tuned to provide a more driver-focused edge than the standard Range Rover, with a ride height lowered by 8mm, but will remain composed and comfortable at all times. Plus, the SV Coupé loses none of Range Rover’s legendary all-terrain ability, with 900mm maximum wading depth – and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.
