The exclusive Fiat 500 Spiaggina ’58 is a special birthday tribute to the Fiat 500

Summer 1958: a light breeze blows around the coast of Capri, caressing the hulls of the luxurious yachts moored in the harbour. On the quayside, the exclusive Fiat 500 Jolly, better known as the “Spiaggina”, awaits its illustrious guests for a journey into the glittering night life of La Dolce Vita.

Summer 2018: coinciding with the Fiat 500’s birthday, the iconic Spiaggina makes an elegant return to Europe’s most famous resorts. Its new lease of life comes courtesy of the Fiat brand, which presents the new Fiat 500 Spiaggina ‘58 special edition, produced in a limited edition of 1,958 cars – a tribute to the year of the birth of the first Spiaggina, with ultra-chic design touches and a lavish standard outfit.

Available in the Middle East from 2019, this is the first of Fiat’s two tributes to celebrate both the legendary little car’s birthday and the 60th anniversary of its first special series – the unforgettable Fiat 500 Spiaggina – dating from 1958, which became a universally acclaimed symbol of La Dolce Vita. By marking these two important dates, Fiat also celebrates the secret of the 500’s eternal youth: its capability to renew itself continually, through special editions, without ever losing its identity. And the Fiat brand has produced a second gift to celebrate these special milestones – a delightful video set to the famous song ‘Volare’, the ever-popular Italian classic which also appeared in 1958, and starring, of course, the new Fiat 500 Spiaggina ‘58.

“The new Spiaggina ’58 is our birthday gift to the 500 for its birthday and the 60th anniversary of the Spiaggina,” explained Luca Napolitano, Head of the Fiat and Abarth brands, EMEA. “It’s a real time machine, incorporating many reminders of the Dolce Vita era, such as the vintage logos and wheels, the white waist rail, the convertible only format and two-tone interior. Not to mention a special colour exclusively for this edition, Volare Blue. A name and a colour that take us straight back to 1958, to the Sanremo Festival of that year, when a young Domenico Modugno teamed up with Johnny Dorelli to give the first public performance of ‘Nel blu dipinto di blu’, the famous song also known as ‘Volare’, which was the soundtrack for the Dolce Vita years.”

Two other Italian centres of excellence – creative hub Garage Italia and design firm Pininfarina – have also celebrated the dual anniversary by producing the irresistible ‘Spiaggina by Garage Italia’ showcar. Based on a Fiat 500 C, its features include unique, sophisticated styling cues that reinterpret those unforgettable years for today’s world.

“Love at first sight, the kind that strikes deep into your heart and soul. This what I feel whenever I look at or drive a 500,” said Lapo Elkann, Chairman and Creative Director of Garage Italia. “I fell in love with the car when I was a boy, and as I grew up I was determined to bring it back to life. I am so happy about the model’s relaunch, and hope it will convey the dreams and the magical years of the post-war economic boom and the Italian way of enjoying life. Since 2007, year after year, I’ve always personalised 500’s for myself, and the opening of Garage Italia has enabled us to design a multitude of one-off versions, all reconfirming the versatility and immense contemporary appeal of this vehicle, which is still one of the world’s best-loved brands.”

“11 years have passed since the model was reborn on 4 July 2007 and today, through Garage Italia, I’ve decided to celebrate and renew a splendid Italian icon by working with my Design Centre to create the Spiaggina by Garage Italia, styled by my team with invaluable technical and engineering input from Pininfarina and with the support of the Fiat brand. I’m proud of what we have achieved. And I’m proud that all this has been done in Italy, with Italian firms which promote our beloved country all around the world. I’m sure that this car will make people imagine, dream and interpret the Italian way of enjoying life that has been inspiring the world for generations.”

“Creativity and feasibility, technology and craftsmanship are Pininfarina’s trademark characteristics at the service of a new icon of Italian design and know-how,” explained Pininfarina CEO Silvio Pietro Angori. “The Spiaggina project has enabled us to once again display our design capabilities and natural vocation for the creation of unique, exclusive models. It was passion and attention to detail which enabled the firm’s founder, Pinin Farina, to build the Eden Roc for Giovanni Agnelli in the ’50s. Today, those same qualities have guided Pininfarina in the development and building of the Spiaggina, starting from the configuration created by Garage Italia based on the Fiat 500C. The Spiaggina project has brought together companies and people which have made the car, as both an aesthetic object and industrial project, their mission.”

The new Fiat 500 Spiaggina ‘58 special edition

Fiat’s first tribute for the dual anniversary is the new Fiat 500 Spiaggina ‘58 special edition, produced in a limited edition of 1,958 cars and only available as a convertible, for full enjoyment of the open air and the appeal of a historic era indelibly imprinted on all our memories. And as befits a star of La Dolce Vita, the new special edition sports a splendid Volare Blue livery, with beige soft-top, shown off by the white waist rail and vintage-design 16″ alloy wheels. The exclusive colour scheme is enhanced by other distinctive features, such as the side moulding with 500 logo, chromed door mirror caps, vintage logos and chrome Spiaggina ’58 logo, in elegant italic script, on the rear – the signature of the latest Fiat creation.

The interior has the same class and elegance, with original and authentic design touches. Starting from the dashboard, in the same Volare Blue colour as the exterior, to the refined two-tone look of the seats, with grey striped base and ivory upper section. The chic interior is completed by special mats and a steering wheel with vintage logo. The new Spiaggina ’58 special edition offers the very best in connectivity technology and is equipped (as standard) with a Uconnect™ 7″ HD touchscreen radio which is Apple CarPlay ready and compatible with Android Auto, as well as navigator with Tom Tom maps. Also standard are the largest-in-class 7″ TFT display, automatic A/C, rear parking sensors, height-adjustable seats and seat-back pockets. Finally, the 500 Spiaggina ‘58 comes with a 1.4-litre, 99hp petrol engine with the latest Euro6B rating.

The Fiat 500 collection becomes even richer and more exclusive

The 500 Spiaggina ‘58 special series is another addition to the Fiat 500 collection, which has included an impressive number of special editions, issued in succession over the last 11 years.

Fittingly so, since Fiat 500 has always been a trendsetter which, while remaining true to itself, has been re-interpreted over time, linking its name to iconic brands from the worlds of fashion, luxury yachts, arts and sport in truly unique editions that have explored unusual territories for a city car.

Outstanding examples include the stylish Diesel, Gucci, the amazing Riva and Abarth Rivale that evoke luxury yachts the 560 series celebrating the model’s great forebearer, and finally the 500 Mirror, with top-end connectivity for the millennial lifestyle. And today it is the turn of the splendid 500 Spiaggina ‘58 to continue the story of the Fiat icon.

Launched in 1957 and established over the years as the icon of mass car ownership in Italy, the Fiat 500 was reborn in 2007 with the debut of the new model, which rapidly become a global phenomenon. Its success is demonstrated by the fact that over 2 million cars were sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, with over 80% of sales volumes achieved on the export market. A success that has made the 500 (including the Abarth 500) number 1 in Europe in its segment since 2013.

This status was reconfirmed during the first five months of 2018, with leadership in 10 markets (UK, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia) and a top-3 placing in 6 other countries (Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Slovakia and Romania). The model’s growth shows no sign of abating, as, reaching its eleventh year in the first five months of 2018, it once again broke its own records, with more than 93,000 cars sold in Europe, making them its best ever five sales months ever.

Heir to a symbol of La Dolce Vita

Just a year after its launch on 4 July 1957, the Fiat 500 became a real cult object with the debut of its first special series: the 500 Jolly, better known as Spiaggina, or beach buggy. Built by Carrozzeria Ghia and based on the Fiat 500, and later also on the Giardiniera version, this exclusive car was produced from 1958 to 1965 and sold in Europe, the United States and South Africa.

Costing twice the price of the normal version, this special seaside version was a favourite of the most influential personalities of the age – including shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis and actor Yul Brynner – who chose it as their preferred transport to their yachts or as a golf car on their country estates. A 500 Jolly can also be admired in the personal car collection of US President Lyndon B. Johnson.

One of its distinctive features was the absence of doors – slender chains were not introduced until around 1965 – although the most innovative aspect of its design was inclusion of chromed rails in the sides and along the top of the bodywork, supporting the sunshade-canopy. Equipped with a 22hp air-cooled two-cylinder engine, the 500 Jolly had a top speed of 105 km/h.

Spiaggina by Garage Italia

Fun and carefree are the feelings conveyed at first glance by the Spiaggina by Garage Italia showcar. This has been achieved thanks to its typical summer colours, Volare Blue and Perla White, which distinguish the two-tone livery of the body with Garage blue finishes and matching interior upholstery. The roof, just like the traditional Spiaggina, has been removed and the rear passenger space has been transformed into a spacious compartment so that you can take all your beach essentials with you. This modification was possible thanks to the support of Pininfarina technicians, who assisted Garage Italia staff in the design of structural reinforcement work, such as the rear roll-bar, to ensure the chassis was rigid enough.

These details make the latest creation by Lapo Elkann’s creative hub truly one of a kind. The showcar has a lowered nautical windscreen and the load platform is covered with slatted cork with a pattern recalling the design of teak floor boards on luxury yachts.

The two front seats have been replaced by a tailor-made bench to reflect the typical design of 1960’s cars, embellished by the blue and white Foglizzo Leather upholstery, with a special waterproof treatment. Last but not least, the chrome trim on handles, door mirrors and hubcaps on the new Fiat 500 Vintage 1957 alloy wheel rims all contribute to making the Spiaggina by Garage Italia sparkle under the sun.

Bentley Motors is demonstrating the beauty of bespoke with a new very special limited edition Mulsanne. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner pays homage to the founding father of the company and incorporates a genuine piece of Bentley history in every car.

Inside each of the 100 limited edition Mulsannes, a slice of the original crankshaft taken from W.O. Bentley’s personal 8 Litre car decades ago – the last model he designed for Bentley Motors back in 1930 – is displayed.

As Bentley approaches its centenary in 2019, Mulliner designers reflected on the last 99 years of an extraordinary British automotive story to imagine the new Mulsanne W.O. Edition. In doing so, they have created a truly unique collector’s item.

The Mulsanne W.O. Edition can be specified on any of the three-model Mulsanne range, based on customer preference. Key features include a colour split interior cut from Heritage Hide reflecting the patina of vintage cars, elegant Beluga black wheels, and a stunning cocktail cabinet or bottle cooler featuring a slice of W.O.’s own 8 Litre crankshaft set into the armrest.

This special model will make its public debut at Monterey Car Week in California USA in late August, with customer deliveries commencing in 2019 – Bentley’s centenary year.

The Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner – A Piece of History

The new Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner draws on design cues taken from the 8 Litre – built in an era that has been defined as the ‘golden age’ of motoring in Britain. Just 100 examples will be handcrafted by Mulliner.

The interior displays a range of exquisite features inspired by luxury living in the 1930s – key to which is the Mulliner illuminated cocktail cabinet. A marquetry scene on the handcrafted unit – depicting the geometric front matrix grille and headlight of the 8 Litre – reveals a display window, inside which a piece of the crankshaft from W.O. Bentley’s own 8 Litre car is showcased. Just below the machined metal display case is an inscription detailing the significance of the Bentley artefact.

To create the marquetry scene, a number of different veneers and materials were used. Four different wood types give contrast and depth to the piece, while aluminium is used to achieve the highlights, signature and geometric pattern. The diamond-like borders that run parallel to each side add to the contemporary look while retaining an art deco feel. The piece is finished with W.O.’s signature.

An interior colour split made from luxurious Fireglow Heritage and Fireglow hide is complemented further by Beluga hide detailing and blind stitching. Dark Stain Burr Walnut veneer extends to the minor gauge panel, steering wheel rim and other areas.

The Mulsanne is finished with Fireglow lambswool rugs, glass tumblers, privacy curtains to the rear doors, and a rear seat entertainment system.

The Mulsanne W.O. Edition further enhances its formidable road presence with Onyx paintwork (although customers can specify other colours from Bentley’s extensive pallet), chrome bonnet strip and graceful Flying B Mascot atop the optional chrome radiator shell and grille. A discreet W.O. Bentley signature badge is displayed on the lower bumper, while special centenary badging adorns the self-levelling wheel centres and door treadplates.

The Mulsanne W.O. Edition can be specified on any of the three-model Mulsanne range, based on customer preference. Each model is already a true statement of Bentley’s innovation and craftsmanship. Bentley’s flagship model is the world’s finest handmade car, representing the ultimate combination of luxury and performance.

The Bentley 8 Litre – The Last Car Designed By W.O.

The 8 Litre was described as W.O. Bentley’s finest grand tourer. Launched in 1930, it was also the last car he personally designed for Bentley Motors.

It was the largest and most luxurious Bentley of its time, featuring the most powerful engine of any car available in Britain – a 7,983cc straight six that offered remarkable performance. W.O. said of the 8 Litre: “I have always wanted to produce a dead silent 100-mph car, and now I think we have done it.”

Originally registered GK 706, W.O.’s was the second 8 Litre off the production line and became his personal transport. He commissioned HJ Mulliner to build a saloon body on the 12-foot, short-wheelbase chassis. W.O. was then forced to sell his beloved car in 1931.

It was bought back by Bentley Motors in 2006, when the car then underwent a sympathetic restoration, including replacing the original crankshaft, slices of which are now being symbolically installed in the new Mulsanne W.O. Edition by Mulliner.

W.O.’s 8 Litre has since become a symbolic ‘company car’ for each successive Bentley CEO, preserving a tradition that dates back to the company founder. It is now a focal point in the Bentley Motors Lineage Exhibition, situated at company headquarters in Crewe, England.

Bentley’s Centenary – 100 Years of Extraordinary

In 1919 Walter Owen (W.O.) Bentley created a company with a simple objective: to build “a fast car, a good car, the best in its class”. This guiding principle has driven Bentley ever since, pushing the brand forward and making it the leader in automotive luxury around the world today.

The 10th of July 2018 marks the start of Bentley’s 100th year and the countdown to the brand’s centenary in 2019. This extraordinary milestone – reached by only a special few companies – will be a cause for celebration of the company’s history and its global success today.

About the New Nissan Pathfinder

The uniqueness of the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Midnight Edition is defined by:

  • Black Outside Mirrors
  • Black Roof Rail
  • Black Grade Badge with Midnight Edition Emblem on Lift Gate
  • Black Front and Back Mud Guard
  • Black Front Radiator Grille
  • Body Coloured Bumper with Black Rear Lower Accent
  • Black Back Door Finisher
  • Black 20” Accessory Aluminum Alloy Wheels
  • Black Rear Spoiler
  • LED High Mount Stop Lamp

A Powerful New Look

When the fourth-generation Pathfinder was introduced for the 2013 model year, its design represented a major step forward in refined styling and aerodynamic emphasis. For 2018, the refreshed exterior goes even farther, adding a stronger sense of adventure, character and presence and continued fine-tuning of aero efficiency.

The updated appearance incorporates the latest Nissan signature design elements introduced on the award-winning Maxima sport sedan and Murano crossover – including the new “V-Motion” grille and boomerang-shaped headlights with LED daytime running lights. New LED headlights are standard on the Pathfinder SL grade.

Other exterior enhancements include a new, more aggressive hood, front bumper and fog lights. The outside rearview mirrors now include standard integrated turn signals. In the rear, changes include new taillights and a stronger bumper design.

In addition, aerodynamic optimization efforts include a new grille design, which enhances cooling performance and negates the need for an active grille shutter, and a new front chin spoiler design that has been moved forward and directs air downward – without compromising the approach angle for off-road driving. These changes help optimize air flow around and below the exterior, with the coefficient of drag reduced to 0.326 (from the previous 0.34).

Another significant addition for 2018 is the available Motion-Activated liftgate. A simple wave of the foot under the center of the liftgate activates the power opening function. It is standard on SV and SL grade.

Other exterior details include recessed front windshield wipers, roof rails and chrome door handles. An available Dual Panorama Moonroof is standard from SV grade. It includes a sliding opening front panel and fixed rear glass panel, which extends over the 2nd and 3rd rows.

Also updated in the 2018 model is the design of the allow wheels that are available as 18-inch in S grade and 20-inch in SV and SL grades.

Completing the exterior makeover is one new exterior color, which is Caspian Blue. Other available colors are, Silver, Gun Metallic, Magnetic Black, Pearl White.

A Roomy, Refined Interior

The enhancements to the Pathfinder interior for 2018 focus on convenience and connectivity. For example, the cupholders have been reshaped to accommodate mug handles and an illuminated front storage bin. There are now two USB ports inside the console versus the previous single port.

The biggest change, however, is the adoption of new-generation information technology. The standard Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD), located in the center of the instrument display between the tachometer and speedometer, features additional infotainment and driver assistance displays (versus the previous Pathfinder design). Voice recognition has been enhanced with a new HD microphone.

As in previous years, the 2018 Pathfinder’s 3-row/7-passenger interior combines comfortable seating with the cargo capacity that families need every day. It offers the benefits of a mid-size crossover with the comfort of a larger SUV, including a flat floor for enhanced interior packaging flexibility and ample space. Overall interior roominess is 173.8 cubic feet (passenger and cargo areas combined).

Every 2018 Pathfinder interior is anchored by Nissan’s innovative EZ Flex Seating System™ with LATCH AND GLIDE™, a second row tilt and glide seat that allows easy third row access with a child safety seat remaining securely in place in the second row.

A wide range of seating and cargo carrying combinations are available with the second row 60/40-split seat with manual slide/recline/fold flat and third row 50/50-split seat with manual recline/flat fold. New cloth seat fabric is added for S grade, and leather-appointed with new wood finish interior on the SV and SL grades.

Pathfinder’s quiet, comfortable interior also includes a wide range of available features, including two rows of rich leather-appointed seating surfaces, climate controlled front seats in SL grade, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, Nissan Intelligent Key® with Push Button Start, multiple user memory settings and an advanced Bose® Audio System with 12 speakers.

Pathfinder also offers available class-exclusive Intelligent Around View® Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD). Other available technology includes Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System and iPod® integration. The tri-zone Family Entertainment system includes front seats head restraint-mounted DVD display screens. The rear displays are now 8-inch QHD designs (versus the previous 7-inch WVGA) and include auto brightness control and USB and HDMI rear source inputs. The rear display can be easily controlled from the front with a more user-friendly display.

An available remote engine start function allows the climate control system to warm up or cool down the interior prior to driving (standard on SV and SL).

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), available with individual tire pressure display, comes with standard Easy-Fill Tire Alert that provides both visual and audible signals to help owners conveniently maintain correct tire pressures without the use of a gauge.

Revised 3.5-liter V6 Engine

In a major step-up of its already highly capable adventure credentials, Pathfinder’s new 3.5- liter V6 engine features more power and torque. It utilizes more than 50 percent new or new-to-Pathfinder engine parts and components – including combustion chamber design, pistons, intake manifold and e-VTC (fully electronic on intake).

The engine’s new Direct Injection Gasoline™ (DIG) system, which is also utilized on the all-new flagship Nissan Patrol full-size SUV, provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance (versus a non-direct-injection system). The switch to mirror bore cylinder coating reduces engine weight by around three pounds and reduces friction between the piston ring and the cylinder wall. The technology eliminates the need for a heavy cast iron cylinder liner.

All 2018 Pathfinder models are equipped with Nissan’s third-generation Xtronic transmission (similar to that utilized in the sporty Nissan Maxima). The Xtronic transmission includes DStep Logic Control, which simulates shifts, giving a more natural acceleration feeling.

The new Pathfinder powertrain helps provide real world driving benefits of more responsive acceleration and re-acceleration, such as when entering highways or passing.

As in previous years, Pathfinder also features selectable 2WD, Auto or 4WD Lock modes from the available intuitive ALL-MODE 4×4-i system. With the available intuitive four-wheel drive, Pathfinder continues to serve as an excellent vehicle for inclement weather driving conditions.

Pathfinder is the only vehicle in class with selectable 2WD, Auto or 4WD Lock modes for its available intuitive ALL-MODE 4×4-i system. The system lets the driver choose fulltime 2WD for maximum fuel economy, Auto mode to automatically monitor conditions and adjust the balance of power between front and rear wheels for best traction, or 4WD Lock mode when full-time 4WD is desired.

In addition, standard Hill Start Assist helps prevent loss of control when starting and driving away on a steep incline (both 4WD and 2WD models), while standard Hill Descent Control (4WD only) helps by adjusting speed and brake pressure when traveling slowly down steep, rough terrain grades.

Standard safety and security features include Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor), 3-point seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, curtain and side airbags for side impact and rollover head protection for outboard passengers in all three rows (includes rollover sensor), 3-point seat belts for rear seat occupants, including 2nd row center position, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) – second row outboard seating positions only, child safety rear door locks, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS).

Quintessentially luxurious with a touch of rock, classical with a hint of provocation, rough-edged yet with neo-vintage design, the appeal of Café Racer style is not restricted to bikers’ circles but goes much further, extending to worlds as diverse as fashion, lifestyle, literature and magazines. DS 3, a true style icon, an icon of its generation, makes a mark on its era once again and offers an interpretation of this genuine social phenomenon.

Inspired by the work of genius motorcycle builders such as Shinya Kimura, the concept of wabi sabi (austere sophistication) and events like ‘Wheels and Waves’, DS 3 offers this ultra-customised limited edition that combines the rich and glorious history of DS, the Brand’s unconventional spirit, and leading-edge performances and technologies, for a unique driving experience.

The DS Automobiles brand and BMD Design, united around shared values of style, authenticity and know-how, came together to create DS 3 Café Racer, a pure object of desire. A graphic artist by training, artist Bruno Michaud created the BMD studio in 2001. He uses traditional handcraft methods used in France from the 1930s. Bruno has a preference for handcrafting, which allows him to work closely with his designs and stimulate his senses. Today, there is a genuine enthusiasm for all things handmade, and many brands are turning towards the values of artisanship: authenticity, know-how, and traditions.

The BMD Studio designed the decor for the Limited Edition DS 3 Café Racer, evoking a unique rock and vintage universe that combines sophistication and practical design. The DS Automobiles teams, for their part, put the finishing touches on this DS 3 Café Racer to make it a unique and modern vehicle with a strong personality that breaks free from the stereotypical world that surrounds us.

Taking inspiration from the Café Racer and Ace Café motorcycle culture of 1960s London, DS 3 Café Racer is a stylish new limited edition from DS, featuring strong Café Racer exterior branding, bi-tone body colour and a luxurious interior of Trinitario Brown Nappa watchstrap leather.

A strong equipment specification including DS LED Vision – Xenon headlights and reversing camera compliments the style of DS 3 Café Racer and with a production run of just 150, further confirms its unique appeal.

Production models are available in the following colour combinations:

  • Ink Blue body colour with Parthenon Cream roof colour
  • Perla Nera Black body colour with Parthenon Cream roof colour
  • Platinum Grey body colour with Parthenon Cream roof colour
  • Ruby Red body colour with Parthenon Cream roof colour

The most notable sign of customisation: the vintage Parthenon cream roof bears a special exclusive graphic, affixed by hand, which makes subtle reference both to the DS Brand and to the Café Racer movement.

Special badges on the bonnet and doors, decorations on the rear boot and the ‘shark fin’ which mirror the roof decals all add to both the sophistication of this exclusive limited edition and its attention to detail.

The tops of the doors and sides of the interior, the roof embellishers and spoiler are also in Parthenon Cream to accentuate the contrast with the three body colours available. This Limited Edition’s modernity is carried with elegance and grace, as befits the Café Racer style, with exclusive 17” black diamond-cut ‘Bellone’ alloy wheels with Parthenon Cream wheel centres, DS wings and external trim is painted in exclusive sparkling textured black. It also features a chrome license plate embellisher, gloss black, door handles, exterior door mirrors with gloss black cappings and matt black stalks and the rear window glass is tinted.

Our immersion in the Café Racer world continues into the interior, which boasts a Parthenon Cream dashboard graphic, printed by hand, that picks-up on the distinctive roof decor.

This exclusive ambience is perpetuated with the watchstrap-style seats upholstered in Trinitario Brown Nappa leather with cream over-stitching recalling the dashboard: luxury at the service of the comfort of both driver and passengers. This attention to detail is subtly apparent in the cream over-stitching on the perforated leather steering wheel and the panel visor trim kit. The quality of the materials used for the leather steering wheel and the aluminium pedal and footrest adds a touch of sportiness and sophistication.

Café Racer is nothing if not modern in spirit. DS 3 Café Racer also has a wide range of on-board technological equipment. Automatic air conditioning, reversing aids, automatic wipers and heated wing mirrors all guarantee safe and driving with peace of mind. A 7-inch touchscreen and satellite navigation system offer an intuitive and finger-friendly ergonomic interface. For constant connectivity, DS 3 Café Racer has a Mirror Screen feature so that smartphones can be used safely (incorporating Apple CarPlayTM or MirrorLink®) and a DS Connect Box offering emergency and assistance systems for peace of mind.

“This deep fascination with the Café Racer movement, with the glamour of rock’n’roll and the alluring vehicles of the past, with the beauty of unique and personal objects, led us to create this rare and exclusive limited edition. It combines modernity, creative freedom and an homage to the glory of the past, with references to the heritage of car racing. DS Automobiles believes strongly and passionately in vehicles, and is once more demonstrating its profound attachment to creative, customised, bold and resolutely forward-looking objects of desire” says Eric Apode, Head of Products and Development at DS Automobiles.

To make our customers feel special, not only with their new DS 3 Café Racer, DS is also offering elegant, trendy accessories – a Ladies scarf and a pocket handkerchief for men in delicate black-and-cream silk in the colours of the roof and dashboard with an exclusive pattern which matches the car’s graphic design.

To mark the launch of DS 3 Café Racer, DS Automobiles invites the public to discover its latest creation in an exclusive preview at DS WORLD PARIS. From now through 18 June, visitors young and old, aesthetes and the merely curious can immerse themselves in the world of the Café Racer, a world of singular and freedom-loving motorcyclists.

On the programme, an exhibition of photographs by Laurent Nivalle, Head of the DS Virtual Lab in the DS brand Styling Centre. A motorcycle enthusiast and renowned photographer, he presents a series of photographs taken during attended events such as the Café Racer Festival or the Grizzly Ride Out. Shot in black and white, the photos magnify the allure of these uniquely stylish and timeless machines and the class of these motorcyclists with their radical, liberated style.

Another photographer focusing on another theme, William Crozes, a specialist in advertising photography, curated a series of visuals during the filming of the ‘DS 3 Café Racer’ presentation video. Developed in colour, these photos are also on view, highlighting the Café Racer style as interpreted by the DS brand; a first in the automotive industry.

The exhibition of these photographs highlights one of the touchstones of the Café Racer trend, – customisation. In doing so, it demonstrates the bold character of DS Automobiles, which is venturing into a territory dear to motorcycle enthusiasts and showing up where it is least expected.

For its most recent creation, the DS brand selected Bruno Michaud of the Bordeaux studio BMD Design to design the customisation of DS 3 Café Racer. A graphic designer with a passion for vintage objects and typography, Bruno Michaud is an advocate of handcrafts and a traditional approach to artisanship. His largely dichromatic productions combine vintage and resolutely contemporary visual. To mark the Café Racer residence, helmets, gloves and graphic designs created by this contemporary artist will also be on show.

If the unveiled DS 3 Café Racer will undoubtedly be the star of the exhibition, it will be joined by two motorcycle models: a Norton Domiracer and a Brough Superior SS100.

In occasion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Prancing Horse is launching a unique ‘Piloti Ferrari’ specification for the Ferrari 488 Pista. This special custom creation, the latest from the exclusive Tailor Made programme, was designed to recognise the success of clients who race Ferraris and will make its debut on the eve of the legendary French endurance race at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Inspired by AF Corse’s no. 51 car, with which Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado won the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ titles, this special finish for the new Ferrari 488 Pista is available exclusively for customers involved in the company’s motor sports programmes.

The exterior features a new livery with stripes in the colours of the Italian flag recalling the racing version of the 488 GTE, embellished by a laurel celebrating the WEC title, the logo of the championship and the word “PRO” indicating the class the car raced in. The Italian flag livery features again along the car’s flanks which are also adorned with the personal race number each client will be able to add. The version that will be unveiled at Le Mans carries the number 51 used by the world championship drivers. The matte black S-Duct and the natural carbon-fibre ‘dovetail’ suspended rear spoiler and vent surrounds round off the personalisation of the exterior.

The ‘Piloti Ferrari’ 488 Pista will be available in four different colours inspired by the world of racing: Rosso Corsa, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring.

The interior, in black Alcantara®, includes seats upholstered with a special perforated version of the same material that incorporates the Italian flag in the central band of the backrest. The national colours are also clearly visible on the edge of the gearshift paddles and on the floormats which, like the carpeting itself, are made of a special technical fabric. The number that features on the external livery also appears on the base of the steering wheel, while all the carbon-fibre trim parts have a matte finish. The personalisation of the interior is completed by an exclusive identification plate and sill trim in carbon-fibre, the latter with the Tailor Made logo.

The ‘Piloti Ferrari’ 488 Pista is powered by the latest 720-cv version of the 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 which has been voted best engine in the world for the third consecutive year at the 2018 International Engine of the Year Awards.

The two millionth Fiat 500 rolls off the production line

Fiat 500

The two millionth Fiat 500 was made at the Tychy Plant in Poland on May 9, 2018. It was a Fiat 500C Collezione, sporting an exclusive two-tone white and grey Primavera livery, powered by a sparkling TwinAir Turbo 85 hp engine, and will be sold in Italy. The new special series celebrates the timeless style and design of 500, its famed iconic status and ever-fashionable personality further enhanced with new colour and material combinations and a cool, stylish spirit. It comes packed with exciting standard equipment, with 16-inch rims, chrome-plated accents, a grey/white/grey beauty line and a cursive “Collezione” badge on the tailgate.

The production of the two millionth car is a significant new milestone in a remarkable success story. The iconic great little Fiat is sold in over 100 countries worldwide. Over 80 percent of sales are outside Italy and for five years, combining Fiat and Abarth versions, it has been the bestseller in Europe in its segment, with a market share of 14.6% at the end of 2017. In its eleventh year, nearly 60,000 units were sold in Europe during the third quarter of 2018 – an all-time record for the current 500. And during the first quarter of 2018, the 500 was the market leader in nine countries (UK, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia) and was in the top three in seven others (Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria).

The 30 special editions launched over the past 11 years, including both Fiat and Abarth versions, are one of the secrets of the uninterrupted success of the Fiat 500, which has always been a trendsetter that – while remaining true to itself – has been re-interpreted over time in an array of special editions created to explore unusual territories for a city-car, from fashion and luxury yachts to connectivity. The new Fiat 500 Collezione special edition, with a nod to the fashion world, follows in the steps of the limited edition 500-60esimo and the Anniversario versions released last year to celebrate its first 60 years.

The 500 was first introduced in 1957 and over six million cars have been sold since then. These remarkable numbers sum up its strength in the collective imagination as well as on the automotive scene. Throughout the decades, it has remained relevant to various generations of motorists, becoming the emblem of mass motorisation and a product of real social relevance. It’s not by chance that a car from the 500 F series, made between 1965 and 1972, was the most popular version ever, and was inducted in the permanent collection at MoMA, the famous Modern Art Museum of New York.

Production of the iconic Fiat started in Tychy in 2007 when the new model was introduced. It was the first city car in the world to be named Car of the Year – the result of its very high manufacturing levels –  in the same year. With more than 200,000 units made a year, counting both Fiat and Abarth, the Polish plant is today one of the most advanced FCA factories in the world, and was one of the first to receive a World Class Manufacturing Gold certification.
