The all new electric SUV:The Audi e-tron 50 quattro

Audi will be introducing a new power rating for its electrically driven SUV on the market in the coming year: the Audi e-tron 50 quattro. Its two electric motors have an output of 230 kW and develop 540 Nm (398.3 lb-ft) of torque. With a gross energy content of 71 kWh, the battery provides for a range of over 300 kilometers (186.4 mi) in the WLTP cycle. In Germany, the SUV—the entry-level model in the e-tron family—will start selling for less than 70,000 euros, which means that it fulfills the conditions for the environmental bonus.

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro combines a high level of efficiency and sporty performance. Just like the model originally launched on the market, the entry-level version also has an electric motor at the front and rear axles. With a combined total of 230 kW and 540 Nm of torque, they accelerate the electric SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds. Speed is electronically governed only at 190 km/h. In order to achieve the highest efficiency, only the rear electric motor is active in most driving situations, while the front electric motor is activated predictively when needed. The regulation of the electric all-wheel drive is extremely fast, highly connected and very precise. In combination with modern suspension components including air suspension and the low vehicle center of gravity, it provides excellent dynamics and stability.

The battery unit of the Audi e-tron 50 quattro comprises 324 prismatic cells combined in 27 modules. These store up to 71 kWh of energy – enough for a range of more than 300 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The high efficiency can be attributed to the newly calibrated drivetrain and various optimizations to the high-voltage system. The lower gross weight, which also reduces running resistance, contributes to this as does the efficient thermal management system with its standard thermal pump. This system regulates the temperature of the interior as well as the battery and cools the electric motors, the power electronics and the charger. In this way it ensures that the high-voltage components enjoy a long service life and enables fast charging with direct current (DC).

Audi e-tron 50 quattro

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro can charge with up to 120 kW at a so-called high-power charging station. This means that the electric SUV is all set for the next long-distance stretch of a journey in approximately half an hour. Alternatively, the battery can be supplied with alternating current (AC). At a charging capacity of 11 kW, this takes about seven hours. After the market introduction, a second, on-board charging device will be added to the offering as an option. It will allow charging using up to 22 kW at AC stations.

For charging at home, the Audi e-tron 50 quattro is equipped with the compact mobile charging system as standard. It supports a charging capacity of up to 11 kW when connected to a 400 volt industrial outlet. Up to 2.3 kW are possible with a 230 volt domestic outlet.

Like the more powerful version of the electric SUV, the Audi e-tron 50 quattro also recuperates energy via its two electric motors, preferably the rear one, during more than 90 percent of all deceleration actions. This means that the energy from practically all normal braking maneuvers is recovered and fed back into the battery. The newly developed wheel brake system with electrohydraulic actuation is activated only above a deceleration of more than 0.3 g. This results in short braking distances in all situations. The standard efficiency assistant also helps the driver to adopt an economical driving style through automatic recuperation and predictive information in the Audi virtual cockpit. The system uses radar sensors, camera images, navigation data, and Car‑to‑X information to detect the traffic environment and the route. In combination with the adaptive cruise assist, the efficiency assistant can also brake and accelerate the electric SUV predictively.

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro, which is being developed in the carbon-neutral plant in Brussels, will debut in the Middle East markets in the first quarter of 2020.

Powerful Elegance: the Audi Q3 Sportback

Audi is adding a compact SUV in coupé shape to its model range: the Audi Q3 Sportback. The new model combines the strong presence and versatile everyday convenience of an SUV with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a coupé. This makes it the first compact crossover of the Audi brand.

Low roofline, muscular body: the design

The Audi Q3 Sportback stands for strength and precision to an equal degree, and reflects this in all design details. The black grille of the octagonal Singleframe is strongly three-dimensional in design, and this makes it particularly sporty. The same applies for the trapezoidal air inlets and the expressive bumper with its flat blade. The coupé-like passenger cabin acts as a contrast to the distinctive attachments, which are painted in contrasting colors and thus emphasize the SUV character. The low roofline gives way to flat D‑pillars and ends in a roof edge spoiler. As a result, the Audi Q3 Sportback appears much longer than its sister model Q3. In addition, the SUV-coupé is almost three centimeters flatter, and thus has a more muscular appearance. Above the wheels, strong contours draw attention to the quattro drive, which comes as standard with most engines. Many light and shadow effects arise on the plastic-formed rear. The low window, flanked by aero trims, and the sporty bumper, which takes up the look of the air inlets, emphasize the width of the Audi Q3 Sportback. The reversing lights contribute to this as well: they run inwards in a tapered shape, just like the flat headlights. Audi supplies the latter in three versions up to Matrix LED technology, whose adaptive high beam intelligently illuminates the road as best suits the driving situation.

Sporty on and off the road: the suspension

The Audi Q3 Sportback offers driving fun on various terrains. In the city, on long-haul routes, or on easy terrain – the compact crossover is a dynamic all-rounder. It features progressive steering as standard, whose gear ratio becomes increasingly direct as the steering angle increases, and the sport suspension.

On request, the suspension is available with damper control, which further increases the range between dynamism and comfort. Depending on the driving situation, road condition, and personal preferences, the driver can vary the car’s characteristics via the standard dynamic handling system, Audi drive select, in six profiles, including the offroad mode. In addition to the engine and transmission set-up, this system also influences the electronically adjustable shock absorbers and the steering assistance. As an option, the hill descent control can offer support: it keeps the speed selected by the driver constant on an incline greater than 6%.

TFSI S tronic, quattro: the drive

For the market launch in the Middle East the 2.0 TFSI is the most powerful engine (Audi Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI quattro S tronic: Combined fuel consumption in l/100 km *: 7.7 – 7.3; combined CO2 emissions in g/km*: 174 – 166).

The quattro all-wheel drive takes on the job of force transmission as standard. Its central component is a hydraulic multi-plate clutch on the rear axle. Its electronic management combines outstanding stability and strong traction with a high level of driving enjoyment. At the limits of performance, the quattro drive works closely together with the wheel-selective torque control, It makes handling even more dynamic and stable by means of gentle brake interventions on the inside wheels with the quattro drive and the inside front wheel with the front drive.

Variable comfort: Interior and space concept
The Audi Q3 Sportback is 4.50 m long, 1.84 m wide and 1.56 m high; its wheelbase measures 2.68 m This results in a large and highly variable interior. The rear seats offer space for three people. They can be moved 130 mm longitudinally as standard; their backrests are divided into three sections, and their inclination can be adjusted in seven stages. The volume of the luggage compartment ranges from 530 l to 1,400 l The loading floor can be adjusted to two levels, and the rear shelf is located beneath it. As an option, Audi will deliver an electric tailgate that can also be opened and closed with a foot motion. The front seats – electrically adjustable and heated on request – offer a sporty position and a high level of comfort. Depending on the equipment, there are sport seats with contrasting stitching and colored stripes along the side panels.

In addition, Alcantara surfaces on the instrument panel and the armrests emphasize the progressive design philosophy. In the dark, the optional contour/ambient lighting package sets lighting accents with its 30 selectable colors.

Digital world: Displays and operation
The operating and display concept proves how Audi is pushing ahead with digitalization: Even the basic equipment includes a digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen diagonal, which the driver operates using the multifunction steering wheel. In the top-of-the-line system, MMI navigation plus, the displays appear in the Audi virtual cockpit, which offers many additional functions. A touch display measuring 10.1 inches is positioned in the center of the instrument panel. When a function is selected, it emits acoustic feedback. Just like in the brand’s full-size class models, it is surrounded by wide, high-gloss black trim. Together
with the air-conditioning control unit located beneath it, the display is ergonomically tilted
10° towards the driver. On request, the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus is available with three selectable layouts, including a particularly dynamic view.

The flat menu structure is complemented by a control unit that uses natural language and can also understand free wordings. Entering a navigation destination and the MMI search are based on free text input. The system recognizes the driver’s most frequent destinations based on previous journeys, allowing it to generate suitable suggestions. When doing so, it takes into consideration statistical empirical values regarding the traffic load and time of day.

The content of the smartphone is shown in the MMI display via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and no cables are required if the top infotainment system is used with an iPhone. The Audi phone box and the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound round off this comprehensive offer.

Outstanding in any situation: the assist systems
In the Audi Q3 Sportback, four systems are used for safety. These include the lane departure warning and the lane change warning. While the former helps the driver to remain in the lane, the latter points out critical situations when changing lanes, such as if there is a vehicle in the blind spot. The series scope in Germany also includes Audi pre sense front. If a head-on collision is imminent, it outputs a visual, acoustic, and haptic warning to the driver.
In an emergency, it causes full braking and initiates the Audi pre sense basic safety measures. This involves tightening the front seat belts, closing the windows and the optional sliding roof, and activating the hazard warning lights.

The adaptive cruise assist is a highlight of the optional systems. It takes the burden off the driver during longitudinal and lateral guidance. Ultra-modern systems such as the 360 degree cameras offer assistance with parking and maneuvering. They show the direct surroundings of the SUV coupé on the MMI display, and the driver can choose from several perspectives. The park assist automatically guides the car into and out of parking spaces. If, for example, the driver wants to back out of an entrance, the rear cross traffic assist warns about approaching vehicles that the system classifies as critical.

Delivery of the Audi Q3 Sportback in the Middle East will start in Q1 2020.

2019 GMC Yukon arrives in the Middle East

GMC has announced the Middle East arrival of the 2019 Yukon full-size SUVs, presenting the capability, refinement, safety, performance and connectivity discerning customers expect. Available in Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali models, the 2019 premium SUV features enhanced cargo capability – thanks to its available power-folding second- and third-row seats that can be folded flat.

The Yukon lineup also incorporates available technologies to help protect the driver and passengers before, during and after a collision. Interior details

Inside, the Yukon’s precisely crafted interior features a quiet cabin, authentic materials and premium infotainment choices.

Examples of attention to detail include a soft-touch instrument panel, console and door panel materials with French seam stitching and purposeful use of ambient lighting in functional areas, including first- and second-row foot wells and the center console. A Bose sound system is standard on all models.

Denali models feature active noise cancelation technology to make the interior quieter.

Phone integration technology

GMC’s IntelliLink system with an 8-inch-diagonal color touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay, a phone integration technology which puts iPhone features  on the display in a smart, simple manner. CarPlay makes it easy to connect to the features smartphone users rely on most.

The features allow customers to display select apps onto and control them through the touchscreen interface of GMC’s IntelliLink system. Many features can be controlled via voice commands through a button on the steering wheel, helping drivers spend more time with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Apple CarPlay supported apps include Phone, Messages, Maps, Music and compatible third-party apps. A full list of those apps can be found at Apple.com/iOS/CarPlay.

The system is now Android Auto ready, and will allow Android smartphone users to mirror their devices once the service is made available in the region.

IntelliLink  

GMC Yukon’s IntelliLink infotainment system offers passengers more choices for their increasingly plugged-in lifestyles. It is easy and intuitive, is highly customizable and is capable of linking multiple devices in various wired and wireless manners.

A Text Messaging Alerts feature for smartphone users with Bluetooth profile (M.A.P.) reads incoming texts through the vehicle’s speakers to help keep phones safely stowed and drivers’ hands on the wheel.
For Yukon models equipped with the available rear seat entertainment system, the 2018 model year brings a number of modifications and improvements to the connectivity of the thanks to HDMI/MHL connectors that now allows devices to project on the in-vehicle screen(s). The audio support is also improved with the use of digital headphones.

In addition, rear passenger tablet users get USB port that support 2.1 amp charging atop the already existing USB and 230 AC power outlets. Consequently, the rear entertainment system no longer supports SD Cards, and RCA video/audio jacks.

More capable, more comfortable

The Yukon lineup delivers greater capability and greater refinement through enhanced chassis and suspension systems. A fully boxed frame – composed of more than 75 percent high-strength steel – supports a quiet and controlled ride. Shear-style body mounts attached to the frame significantly improve stiffness and contribute to the Yukon’s smooth ride.

Yukon’s driving experience is further enhanced with:

  • Wide rear track that contributes to a more planted stance
  • Electric variable-assist power steering system enhances fuel economy and tailors steering assist to vehicle speed
  • 9.5-inch rear axle and standard automatic locking rear differential
  • Standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control, tow/haul mode, trailer sway control, auto grade braking and hill start assist
  • Four-wheel-disc brakes with Duralife™ brake rotors that offer up to double the service life
  • Denali models include third-generation Magnetic Ride Control, a real-time damping system that delivers more precise body motion control by “reading” the road every millisecond and changing damping in just five milliseconds.

Advanced powertrain technology 

The Yukon family is powered by the EcoTec3 engine family. A 5.3L V-8 is standard in Yukon and Yukon XL models and an exclusive 6.2L engine is standard in Denali models, delivering great horsepower and torque – SAE-certified 420 horsepower (313 kW) and 624 Nm of torque.

EcoTec3 engines feature state-of-the-art technologies including direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions. The precisely controlled combustion enables a higher compression ratio for greater power and efficiency.

The 5.3L V-8 is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 6.2L in the Denali features a new ten-speed automatic transmission.

Designed and built by GM, the new 10-speed transmission features smaller steps between gears, compared to the previous eight-speed automatic, keeping the engine within the sweet spot of the rpm band to make the most of its horsepower and torque to optimize performance and efficiency.

Safety technologies

Yukon models are equipped with standard and available driver-alert technologies that add layers of crash-avoidance protection, as well as enhanced occupant protection in the event a crash occurs.

The Yukon’s available Enhanced Driver Alert Package boasts Lane Keep Assist. When activated, it gently steers the vehicle back into its lane when it detects the driver is inadvertently leaving the lane of travel. The package also adds Intellibeam headlamp technology, which automatically turns on and off the vehicle’s high beam headlamps according to surrounding traffic conditions. The automatic high beams will stay on until it detects an approaching vehicle’s headlamps or preceding vehicle’s taillamps.

Other safety features include the segment’s first Front Center Air Bag (front bucket seat models). This feature deploys from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and inflates between the driver and front passenger, providing added protection for both front occupants in side-impact crashes.

Available active safety features use camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors to help avoid crashes. Yukon includes the GM-patented Safety Alert Seat that vibrates if the system determines the driver is at risk of colliding with another vehicle. A standard rear vision camera shows the area immediately behind the vehicle in the audio system screen. It’s especially helpful when hooking up a trailer.

Additional standard and available driver alert technologies include:

Honda launches brand new sleek crossover, HR-V to complete ‘Power of 3’ SUV range

Honda Motor Co. Africa and Middle East Office announced the launch of its brand new sleek crossover, the HR-V, at an exclusive event in Abu Dhabi. The event, entitled the ‘Power of 3’ also saw the unveiling  of the updated popular CR-V and Pilot models, which boast bold new designs and features upgrades  , completing the manufacturer’s SUV line up.

Several VIPs and car enthusiasts attended the much-anticipated ‘Power of 3’ event, which saw the unveiling of the HR-V for the first time in the region, since its debut in late 1999.

The Honda HR-V marks the presence of an entry level SUV from the Honda Range, this 5 seater vehicle will be available across all GCC Countries and North Africa. The Honda HR-V has been positioned as a fun and sporty SUV which has been designed for life. It is available in three grades for the region and will launch in the showrooms across the GCC by end of February 2019.

The final model to complete the ‘Power of 3’ line up, which was showcased at the event, was the redesigned and re-engineered 2019 Honda Pilot. This brings with it a long list of upgrades to Honda’s award-winning 8-seat SUV, with changes including more aggressive front styling, the option for a new hands-free power tailgate, major upgrades to available connected-car technology,  with  a new Display Audio touchscreen system. Honda’s comprehensive suite of safety technologies called “Honda Sensing” has been expanded to the 2019 Pilot Touring grade.

Alongside the newly unveiled SUVs was the completely new “NEO CAFÉ CB1000R motorcycle, and a brand new Drive By Wire BF 250 marine engine. The much-loved CB1000R has been completely redeveloped and includes a striking modern CAFÉ racer-inspired design, showcased at the event. The bike has been in huge demand since its launch, outstripping supply, with additional bikes ordered to meet customer demand. Honda also announced the arrival of the CB1000R+ model, which is equipped with many standard features, such as Quick shifter. The new boating season also sees the newly developed Honda’s flagship outboard motors, the BF175, BF200, BF225 and BF250 engines. All engines are equipped with the latest V6 engines featuring mechanical or Drive By Wire system. The BF175 is only equipped with Drive By Wire.

Commenting on the Power of 3 launch, Anup Ravindranath, General Manager – Business Development and Marketing, Honda Motor Co. Africa and Middle East Office, said: “We’re excited to be able to introduce the HR-V to the market here in the Middle East and Africa, as this is such a key market for SUVs.   • 4 tonnes (almost, at more than 3,900 kg) gives Navigator best-in-class towing capability. That would equate to one blue whale calf, approximately 315 solid gold bars, or around 22,500 new IPhone X’s.
  • Best-in-Class 450 horsepower and 691 Nm of torque driven by the 5-litre twin-turbo engine. When Navigator first rolled off the production line, its 5.4-litre Triton V8 could only produce 230 hp, which goes to show how far engine technology has come.
  • 7 drive modes are available with the available Terrain Management System. The different options, switched between with the turn of a dial, adapt automatically to different traction conditions. And with space for 7 passengers, not counting the driver, you really can carry the whole family to anywhere in style, and with the effortless power of Navigator.
  • 23,000 is the amount of times advanced sensors in the continuously controlled damping system monitors the road every second, ensuring the suspension soaks up road imperfections and the smoothness of your commute isn’t interrupted.
  • 20 impeccable Revel Ultima speakers from the exclusive Revel by Harman audio system. And of course, 20 is the amount of years Navigator has been available for those with impeccable taste. Though launched in July 1997, 1998 marked the arrival of Lincoln Navigator to its first customers, with its popularity after two decades seeing record-breaking growth.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio unconventional SUV

Each person has his/her own day start routine; from some, it is the morning coffee and off to work, for others, a newspaper is a must before anything and for some breakfast is the most important meal of the day and off we go. For me, I start every day in a different way.

Today I have decided to have an unusual day start. After my morning coffee and breakfast, it was boxing time. This may look strange for some and unusual for others, but I consider myself an unusual person and a routine breaker girl. To complement my today’s unconventional experience, I had to drive an unconventional SUV from the Italian manufacturer: Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce .

Conventionally, The SUV is perceived as either a family car or businessmen’s vehicle or adventure-oriented, however, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce, in my opinion, broke the conventional routine and the traditional positioning of an SUV: it is the abovementioned and so much more. And here’s why!

Italian Fashion designers have a worldwide known reputation for being the best in the Fashion industry and are always the most elegant and most distinctive among all other designers. This reputation flows as well to the universe of car designs and is clearly reflected in the exterior shaping and curvy lines of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce. The Stelvio received a unique and an unusual yet daring and sporty design that is attractive for both men and women, young and young at heart and to whom ever is fascinated by the unique appeal of the Italian taste.

The flowing lines from the front to the rear give the Stelvio its sporty character and, of course, the relatively lowered rear with dual exhaust and the aggressive front act as a reminder that this is an offspring of excellent sports cars by the Italian manufacturer “Alfa Romeo”

Personally, I was attracted by the two chrome tailpipes integrated into the rear bumper and the shark look-alike front. It gave the Alfa Romeo Stelvio an offensive look with style yet elegant drawing attention of all passbyers.

As for the interior cabin, it is a whole new story. Even the word “Italian design with distinction” does not give this cabin Justice. The combination of the brushed aluminum with the Carbon Fiber touch, the Piano Black, white stitching on black leather give the interior an elegant and sporty style. I am sure that it charms all types of clientele.

The interior architecture reflects the same contradiction of the exterior design, it imitates the outward appearance of sportiness and elegance in terms of design and functionality clearly seen in the craftsmanship of the center console, dashboard, seat stitching with Alfa Romeo logo on the headrest and the multi-functional D-Shaped steering wheel.

Moving forward, the first sign of being unorthodox in the Stelvio is the presence of the Start/Stop button on the steering wheel and not the conventional dashboard placement, a different start to a distinguished day.

And the journey began from city roads moving up towards great scenery in the Lebanese mountains, the roads started to get narrower and the turns started to get faster, I was enjoying my new Stelvio equipped with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine connected to the 8-speed automatic gearbox producing 280 Horsepower however what gave me that safe feeling and sporty curve turning was the Q4 suspension system that also helped out on some unpaved roads we had to take to reach our final destination.

Even though the trip was long in distance however the Infotainment system “Alpha Connected” kept us connected to the outside world and at the same time we got the chance to enjoy our own music.

Taking the trip up the mountains in Lebanon can only be accompanied by nature’s flipping weather that added more excitement to our day. The vision began to weaken as the atmosphere started to be filled with fog however the B-Xenon headlights stepped in to restore the vision and give us a feeling of comfort and safety.

What I forgot to mention is the DNA Driving modes system present in most modern Alfa Romeo cars including the Stelvio, The DNA has contributed significantly to either adding more driving fun with the Dynamic (D) mode that turns the car into a sporty vehicle for full enjoyment as we did on the quick turns or the “natural” mode for the most comfortable and relaxed driving style on the coastal roads or in the city, but the main reason for mentioning it at this point is the change in weather and the drops of rain that changed the roads conditions to slippery so “All Weather” mode was on for a safer and more entertaining experience despite the crazy weather of the mountainous area.

Finally, we have reached our unusual destination; a golf course on the top of the mountain with light rain and fog, it was super exciting. To experience something for the first time is always filled with joy, excitement, and feelings to last forever. To experience the Alfa Romeo Stelvio the first SUV by the Italian manufacturer is not different and proved to be not your ordinary SUV and worthy of holding the Alfa Romeo Badge.

After the end of this unusual day filled with unconventional experiences onboard an unusual SUV, I have one question for you: when was the last time you did something for the first?

DBX: PROTOTYPE OF ASTON MARTIN’S FIRST SUV BEGINS TESTING

Aston Martin has made a significant and symbolic stride towards the luxury brand’s first SUV – now officially confirmed as being named DBX – with the first development prototype being put through its paces along a demanding Welsh Rally stage in the hands of the company’s Chief Engineer, Matt Becker.

This first test for DBX signifies the start of an extensive testing programme. One that has begun in Wales, as a nod to Aston Martins’ new St Athan production facility in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Though simulation is an essential part of DBX’s early development phase, this first prototype drive in Wales signifies the start of ‘real world’ testing, in which the SUV will be subjected to a punishing regime that will ultimately see development prototypes of the all-new machine tackle some of the world’s harshest environments, from the frozen Arctic and scorching deserts of the Middle East to high Alpine passes and the high-speed demands of the German autobahnen and Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The unique nature of DBX in the Aston Martin range means it requires a dedicated test programme; one that features new processes, procedures and standards that reflect its all-purpose role. So, while it will perform with the verve and poise of a true Aston Martin, its dynamic envelope has to extend into areas previously off-limits to the marque’s sporting roots. Naturally this includes impressive multi-terrain and towing capabilities as befits a state-of-the-art SUV.

Speaking of his drive in the DBX development prototype, Aston Martin Chief Engineer, Matt Becker, said: ‘We have already developed and tuned DBX in the driving simulator, which has enabled us to make excellent progress in advance of the first physical prototype cars being available. Still, it’s always a big day when you get to put the first actual miles on an early prototype and I’m delighted with the near perfect correlation between the simulator and this prototype. As an engineer, it’s genuinely exciting to get a feel for the car you’re working to create. DBX is a very different kind of Aston Martin, but we will be testing it in all conditions and across all terrains to ensure it delivers a driving experience worthy of the wings badge’

DBX is scheduled to be unveiled in the last quarter of 2019 and will be built at Aston Martin Lagonda’s St Athan facility; a state-of-the-art luxury manufacturing plant that will ultimately become the ‘Home of Electrification’ when the marque’s fully-EV models enter production.

Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Palmer said: “Seeing a DBX development prototype in action is a momentous chapter in the story of our first SUV, for it is the moment it really comes alive. DBX is so much more than ‘just’ an SUV; it will be the first model built at our brand-new facility in St Athan. As such, it is very much the start of a bold new era in the company’s long history.”

Brains with Brawn: Cutting-edge technology meets performance in 2018 Tahoe

The Chevrolet Tahoe ’s legendary on- and off-road capabilities have made it one of the most loved large SUVs in the region. For 2018, the iconic model boasts an increased breadth of technological capabilities and advanced safety features that complement the performance of its 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 engine.

As a family SUV that can carry as many as nine passengers, safety was paramount for Chevrolet engineers when building the 2018 Tahoe. With as many as 11 available active safety features, including a host of cameras, radars and sensors, the 2018 Tahoe monitors the surroundings of the vehicle in real-time, scanning for potentially dangerous situations and actively preventing collisions by warning the driver ahead of time and even intervening if they fail to respond.

The 2018 Tahoe has several available features that help keep occupants safe in the event of a potential forward collision. Starting with Adaptive Cruise Control, which allows the driver to automatically follow a vehicle ahead at a selected following gap; the system can brake and accelerate automatically to maintain a pre-set safe distance at all times. The available Forward Automatic Braking system takes things a step further and applies the brakes if the system determines a front-end collision is imminent with a detected vehicle ahead. The system can help reduce the collision’s severity and potentially even altogether avoid it at very low speeds.

Another available feature that warns the driver in advance of a potential danger is Forward Collision Alert. The system can help identify vehicles ahead and warn the driver if they are on collision course or are driving too close to the vehicle in front.

Naturally, there are a suite of available features that monitor the rear of the vehicle, too. For instance, Rear Cross Traffic Alert makes reversing out of a parking bay safer by warning the driver if the system detects an approaching vehicle. Other features that make progress safer include Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Safety Alert Driver Seat, Intellibeam Headlamps and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. Rear Vision Camera is also standard across all models.

Being a family SUV, the 2018 Tahoe is also loaded with a host of connectivity features and entertainment technologies. Powered by Chevrolet’s award-winning Chevrolet Infotainment system, the 2018 Tahoe features Apple CarPlay as standard, allowing users to carry out tasks such as music streaming, making phone calls and sending text messages with simple voice commands. Also available, is Rear-Seat Blu-ray®, with HDMI connection and Wi-Fi to ensure back-seat passengers are entertained and that there are no “Are we there yet?” moments during long drives with the kids.

Despite a bouquet of sophisticated technology, the 2018 Tahoe hasn’t compromised on its hallmark brawn. The standard 5.3L V-8 churns out 355 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque while returning a frugal highway economy of 10.3 Km/L, making it one of the most efficient full-size SUVs on the market.

Despite its substantial dimensions, the 2018 Tahoe is remarkably poised around corners. Thanks to the Corvette-inspired Magnetic Ride Control suspension available on Tahoe Premier and standard on the 400 hp, 6.2L V-8-powered Tahoe RST, the vehicle can read the road surface up to 1,000 times a second and adjust the damping accordingly in as little as 10 to 15 milliseconds.

The Tahoe’s off-road capability is the stuff of legends, and the 2018 iteration continues that trend. With its available Z71 package the Tahoe will dominate the biggest of dunes and the most daunting of wadi passes with ease. Furthermore, when properly equipped the Tahoe can tow up to 3,858 Kg – that’s more than adequate to haul jet skis, quad bikes or medium sized boats. All the while retaining exemplary ride comfort and refinement to ensure smooth progress.

All in all, be it around town or in the great outdoors, the 2018 Tahoe mixes the rough with the smooth and brains with brawn.
