VW Golf R modified by ABT

ABT Sportsline shares a long history with the Volkswagen AG, providing Audi and VW enthusiasts all over the world with custom parts for their cars for decades. This year ABT was honored by Volkswagen of America, Inc. to provide a special car for their 2018 Enthusiast Fleet. The 2018 Golf R Abstract concept modified by ABT debuted on May 17th at SOWO: The European Experience on Hutchinson Island, Savannah, Georgia.

Using a unique camouflage print wrap, the Abstract concept highlights the recently released 2018 Golf R with DCC and Navigation. The car rides on 20-inch FR design wheels in
Mystic Black from ABT Sportsline and uses an H&R Springs Sport Spring system that lowers the vehicle by an inch. ABT also outfitted the Golf R with side skirts and an uprated stainless steel performance exhaust system with four end pipes and matt black chrome 4 inch exhaust tips that gives the powerful Golf R an even more dynamic sound. The camo design takes cues from the robust urban street art of the Wynwood Art District in Miami, FL where the North American office of ABT Sportsline is located.

Dub Drive returns: Over 250 Volkswagen cars take over the streets of Dubai

→  Over 800 people converged from across the region for the largest ever regional gathering of Volkswagen fans

Dub Drive GCC 2018, the largest gathering of Volkswagen owners and fans in the region, welcomed over 800 visitors at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday 9 March. In its second year, the event hosted by Volkswagen Middle East saw 268 car owners from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates take over the streets of Dubai in the largest convoy, ahead of enjoying a festival of live entertainment, food and track racing.

Following the success of Dub Drive 2017, regional participants drove thousands of kilometres from their home countries to take part in the event. This year, the event was open to the general public, allowing car enthusiasts to explore a range of classic, limited edition and modified Volkswagen cars while enjoying the family friendly entertainment on offer.

“Dub Drive was introduced in 2017 to highlight our dedication to our fans in the region. This year’s event has surpassed our expectations and we could not have created this without the unity and commitment of the seven different Club’s from across the GCC, coming together as one big family. The energy of the regional Volkswagen community and the passion that owners and fans have for the brand is overwhelming and pushes us to better serve our customers through creating these unique brand experiences,” commented Andrew Savvas, Brand Director, Volkswagen Middle East.

The 268 car convoy was supported by Emirate Motorsport Federation, RTA, Dubai Police and Civil Defence, creating a network of clear routes for the ultimate Volkswagen fans and ensuring a seamless convoy drive experience through the centre of Dubai.

Dubai welcomed organisers from the world’s biggest Volkswagen clubs, as well as key global Volkswagen personnel including Jost Capito, Managing Director of Volkswagen R GmbH who attended the event with the intention of connecting fans worldwide.

Dub Drive has taken inspiration from an old tradition, Wöerthersee Club Treffen, which is the largest Volkswagen GTI event in the world. The festival started off over 36 years ago in a small village at lake Wöerthersee in Austria by a few Volkswagen fans meeting up, showcasing their cars and exchanging stories. Since then, the event has grown into a three-week-long festival attended by hundreds of thousands of Volkswagen fans from all over Europe.

This year’s Dub Drive Car of the Year Award went to Sameh Helal, from Wolfswagen AUH Club who will now be going to Wöerthersee later this year as his winning prize to continue the experience.

Twice as big as last year Dub Drive 2018 gained the support of key sponsors, Pirelli, Castrol and Volkswagen Accessories.

Carlos Milani, Managing Director Pirelli, Middle East and India said: “As a leader in the premium tyre sector with more than a century of design and manufacturing excellence, this partnership is a natural fit for Pirelli, given Volkswagen’s history and heritage.”

It was great to see so many car enthusiasts in one place doing what they love and the captivating event gave us the perfect platform to engage with this knowledgeable community.”

Green light for a new cabriolet based on the T-Roc: within the framework of its major model offensive, the Volkswagen brand is launching its first convertible SUV. The new model is to be produced from the first half of 2020. At its meeting held today, the Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board confirmed the investment of more than €80 million in the Osnabrück plant which is required for this purpose. With this decision, the brand will be continuing the cabriolet success story of the Osnabrück team and safeguarding employment at the plant.

Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, says: “Volkswagen is evolving into an SUV brand. The T-Roc is already setting new standards in the compact SUV segment. With the cabriolet based on the T-Roc, we will be adding a highly emotional model to the range. I am especially pleased to note that we can count on the Osnabrück team’s decades of experience with convertibles. The Osnabrück plant now has bright prospects for the future.”

SUVs are currently making a key contribution to the growth of the Volkswagen Group’s core brand. With 720,000 Tiguan vehicles delivered, this car is among the 10 best-selling models in the world and the top three SUV’s. By 2020, the brand intends to expand its SUV range throughout the world to 20 models. By then, about 40 percent of the vehicles sold by Volkswagen are to be SUV’s. With the new cabriolet based on the T-Roc, Volkswagen will further reinforce its presence in the compact SUV segment, one of the fastest-growing segments in global automobile markets.

The investment of more than €80 million in the production of the new cabriolet will allow the comprehensive modernization of production technology, assembly and logistics at the Osnabrück plant. Following the run-up phase, a production volume of up to 20,000 vehicles per year is planned.

With the new cabriolet based on the T-Roc, Volkswagen is bringing this body style into the currently particularly strong growing SUV segment. This model continues Volkswagen’s cabriolet tradition, which dates back almost 70 years.

VDubz joins Al Nabooda Automobiles on epic road trip across the UAE

This weekend Al Nabooda Automobiles, the sole distributor of Volkswagen in Dubai and the northern Emirates organised an epic road trip for over 50 members of the VDubz team across the United Arab Emirates ending with an exclusive preview of the new Golf R.

Starting at the Volkswagen Dubai showroom, the 30 cars strong group set off journeying across some of the best roads in the UAE, before finally reaching Fujairah at the Iberotel Miramar Al Aqah hotel. Upon arrival, the Golf enthusiasts were treated to a first and exclusive preview of the new Golf R, which arrives this October.

Thierry Seys, General Manager of Al Nabooda Automobiles Dubai, said, “The Golf community is one of the strongest and most passionate of the car cultures in the UAE; its popularity can compete even with the region’s super car community. This group is inclusive, accessible and offers affordable innovation for everyone. The Golf in all variants offers pure driving fun”.

The drive follows the event held in April this year, when a record number of Golf fans from communities as far away as Riyadh came together to drive on track and across the UAE with Volkswagen.

Thierry continued, “Getting out on the impressive roads of the United Arab Emirates with our customers and Golf enthusiasts is important to us. We value the time spent with our customers, allowing us to get to know them, listen to them and understand their needs as we plan ahead for 2018”.

The new Golf R model’s power was boosted for the model year 2017 – the most powerful Golf – now features 290 HP (10 HP increase) transferring 380nm of torque to the all-wheel drive system.

Furthermore, the Golf R now features technology not available in any other model within its segment, including an optional Digital Active Info Display, gesture control with a large screen entertainment centre. The new model combines new technology with a sleek new look, integrating front and rear LED headlights, the latter with a new dynamic indicator.

The safety features of the Golf remain among the best in class, featuring front assist with City Emergency Braking as permanent fixtures of the new model. The Golf R remains one of the most exciting models in the Volkswagen range.
