Renault Kicks Off Race Day by Handing Keys to New Driver

Aseel Al Hamad during the French Grand Prix

With its established record of innovation, mobility and its long-held pioneering spirit, Renault celebrates the much-heralded return of today’s French Grand Prix in a very special way. Saudi Arabian Aseel Al Hamad, the first female member of the Saudi Arabian Motorsport Federation, was given the opportunity to drive a Renault Sport Formula One Team E20 car on the Le Castellet circuit, France, as part of the Renault ‘Passion Parade’ just hours before the start of the first French GP in ten years. It is the very same car former F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen drove to victory in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Renault and F1 are proud to enable Aseel to pursue the passion for motorsport she has cultivated over the years on the same day women are able to drive on the roads of Saudi Arabia.

Aseel got her first experience of Formula 1 power at a Renault training day on 5 June at Le Castellet. Under the expert tutoring of Renault Sport Formula One Team engineers and technicians, Aseel got accustomed to the demanding circuit in a Renault road car before switching to a Formula Renault car and the E20 Formula 1 car in the later part of the day.

Aseel represents her country on the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, chaired by former World Rally Championship driver and winner Michèle Mouton. Amongst Aseel’s many responsibilities, she is tasked to put in place strategies and policies to promote the education and training of women in motorsport in Saudi Arabia by collaborating on joint projects and participating in international forums and conferences devoted to the place of women in sport.

Aseel Al Hamad commented: “I have loved racing and motorsport from a very young age and to drive a Formula 1 car goes even beyond my dreams and what I thought was possible. It is a genuine honour to drive the Renault Sport Formula One Team E20 car in front of the crowds at its home Grand Prix in France. I hope doing so on the day when women can drive on the roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shows what you can do if you have the passion and spirit to dream.”

Jérôme Stoll, President of Renault Sport Racing, commented: “Renault has always embraced pioneers and demonstrated a pioneering spirit. Equally Renault has a long-held passion for motorsport and loves to share it through every type of competition with as many people as possible. We’re pleased to see Aseel’s passion for racing and her enthusiasm for demonstrating the accessibility of motorsport to more people around the world.”

Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission: “The FIA Women in Motorsport Commission is dedicated to promoting opportunities across all forms of motor sport activities, but also to promoting equality between male and female counterparts in the wider automotive industry and on the roads. To do so, we work extremely closely with all national sporting federations to improve access to our sport. In the time Aseel has been a member of the Commission, Saudi Arabia’s vision has been very clear and things have developed at a rapid rate. Now, as one of the driving forces behind the Saudi Arabian Motorsport Federation, Aseel will pave the way for women to embrace sports and careers in motor sport. Thank you to Renault for putting together such an innovative opportunity that showcases so many of our principles.”

Ford Female Customers Saudi Women Driving

Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies (AJVA), the Ford and Lincoln importer-dealer in Saudi Arabia, is ready to welcome Ford female customers and their families at its upgraded facility in Riyadh’s Takhassussi Street.

Crafted as a one-stop shop for female customers in a warm family environment, the Takhassussi showroom is conveniently located in Riyadh’s Mohammadia area, near many of the Saudi capital’s most popular shopping areas.

Joining the existing staff at the showroom floor is a team of highly-trained female sales consultants many of whom have years of experience with the Ford brand and products.

“Our goal is to create a relaxing environment that enables a new wave of customers to enjoy the entire experience of buying and owning their dream Ford,” said Mohammed Al Kraidees, Deputy CEO, Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies Co. “There is a lot to consider when buying a new car, and we really want the experience to be as stress-free as possible for our female customers.”

“Ford is committed to delivering the products, services and overall ownership experience that our new female customers in Saudi Arabia want,” says Crystal Worthem, Marketing director, Ford Middle East & Africa. “Since the Royal Decree was announced, our teams have been working together with our distributor, Al Jazirah Vehicles Agencies Co, to implement various actions that would help welcome Saudi women to the driver’s seat. While this is very much of an ongoing process, as this new customer group’s needs evolve, our approach will continue to evolve with them.”

Once a customer decides on the model they’d like, the branch will arrange a test drive and upon purchasing the vehicle they’ll be offered the option of a convenient collect-and-drop-off service.

AJVA’s customer care doesn’t end when the new owner drives out of the dealership. Aftersales customer service is handled through Al Jazirah’s Connection Centre which is staffed by both men and women who have deep knowledge of the company’s products, facilities and service procedures. They are well-equipped to provide advice and guidance to customers, enhancing the experience of Ford ownership by removing all stress.

Al Jazirah will also roll out its roadside assistance vehicles for women soon. Based in the main centres throughout Saudi Arabia, the service is designed to give customers complete peace of mind on the roads.

Nissan puts Saudi women behind the wheel with surprise instructors

#SheDrives campaign offers an unforgettable driving experience

Celebrating Saudi Arabia’s historic decision to grant women driver’s licenses, Nissan recently offered a group of young women the chance to get behind the wheel for the first time – with a surprise group of driving instructors.

The company today released an inspirational video about the initiative, part of its #SheDrives campaign, which encourages women to embrace the exciting prospect of becoming fully licensed drivers in 2018.

The women in the video say that while they’re delighted by the prospect, they face reluctance from some of their family members. To help them overcome this, Nissan invited aspiring female motorists to hone their driving skills and build confidence on a closed driving course, with a plot twist: Instead of professional instructors, the women were met by their respective husbands, fathers and brothers, who were their teachers for the day.

“2018 is earmarked to be a pivotal moment in history for women in the kingdom,” said Bader Al Houssami, Chief Operating Officer at Nissan Saudi Arabia. “We wanted to launch a campaign that’s just as emotional as it’s innovative, which ultimately is at the heart of what we at Nissan strive to achieve. The #SheDrives campaign aims to motivate women all over Saudi Arabia with a clear message: When the time comes, the decision to drive will be entirely yours.”
