Bentley introduces ‘SZR by Mulliner’ limited edition to celebrate brand’s global flagship store

Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division, has designed three special Continental GTC V8 S models, specifically for the UAE market. The exclusive ‘SZR by Mulliner’ limited edition commemorates the largest Bentley showroom in the world on Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) in Dubai.

Featuring eye-catching Orange Flame paintwork, a unique interior trim, and Bentley’s acclaimed V8 powerplant, the ‘SZR by Mulliner’ is living proof of Mulliner’s commitment to innovation. It further demonstrates Bentley’s intention to revolutionise customer experience in the world of luxury motoring.

A spark of inspiration

The craftsmen at Mulliner find inspiration everywhere – the challenge is transforming that very inspiration into engineering perfection. The ‘SZR by Mulliner’ was a chance to explore innovative fabrics and colour combinations while recognising the stunning Al Habtoor Motors Bentley showroom, which is fast becoming one of the most iconic buildings on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The limited edition model is a glowing example of Mulliner’s flare and passion, exemplified by the contrasting Orange Flame and Ghost White paintwork. The striking body kit features Orange Flame bonnet, radiator shell, windscreen surround and door mirrors, and is complemented by the 21” six twin spoke black machined rims and unique treadplates engraved with the words “SZR by Mulliner”.

An exceptional tri-tone interior required the creation of a new trim: Sparkle Carbon. This was developed from meshing three different fabrics – carbon fibre, copper foil and metal wire – which were then lacquered, polished and cut to size and applied to the fascia panel, console and instrument panel.

The look of the convertible is further elevated by the exclusive interior with Linen as the main hide with Beluga and Orange touches, fluted seats and Mulliner’s signature diamond quilting. Other touches include Mulliner embroidery on all four headrests and a steering wheel with an orange “12 o’clock” stripe.

Enduring performance and efficiency

Under the bonnet of the ‘SZR by Mulliner’ limited edition lies Bentley’s acclaimed 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain, which is mated to an eight-speed transmission.

The engine can deliver a maximum 528 PS (520 bhp/388 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb.ft) of torque, ensuring the model’s reputation for impeccable performance. With a top speed of 308 km/h, the spirited model can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

A world class dealership

The ‘SZR by Mulliner’, built in celebration of the Dubai-based Bentley flagship showroom, is the perfect nod to the company’s largest standalone dealership in the world, which covers some 75,000 Sq.Ft.

The Al Habtoor Motors Bentley showroom has been designed to go beyond any previous luxury automotive experience and features one of the world’s most advanced luminary façades, comprising 160,000 LED lights. The impressive entranceway includes one of the world’s first Aqua Graphic Water Curtains which can recognise and project a customer’s name in 3D as soon as they walk through the doors.

The unprecedented design encompasses three stories for model display as well as three basement floors for parking, a roof garden, a Bentley merchandise boutique, a VIP Majlis, a specialised customer handover area and a Mulliner room for bespoke commissioning.

Kona: World Premiere of an Urban SUV for Active Lifestyles

Hyundai has unveiled the latest vehicle in its expanding line-up of stylish SUVs, the Kona compact SUV. With a strong, impactful design and uncompromised individuality, the Kona is designed to appeal to modern customers with active lifestyles.

The Kona joins Tucson, Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport in a growing line-up of Hyundai SUVs that feature progressive design with high interior refinement and spaciousness.

Uncompromised individuality and purposeful character

The Kona offers uncompromised individuality and innovative features, with a bold, daring image that hints at the future design direction of Hyundai Motor’s next generation of SUV models.

High-contrast design elements give the impression of a masculine protective ‘armor’, while futuristic LED lamps create a high-tech look.

Aggressive body styling emphasizes the car’s well-proportioned, dynamic silhouette. Its low and wide stance, long wheelbase and short overhangs ensure sporty, nimble handling, in addition to delivering superior driving stability at high speed. It is also the first SUV to adopt Hyundai’s new signature design feature, the Cascading Grille, featuring a sporty mesh pattern, flanked by exceptional wing-type fenders that dominate the front design.

All-new platform delivers exceptional power, performance and safety

The new Kona is offered with a combination of advanced gasoline and diesel engines of various power outputs – dependent on the market. These include a 2.0-liter MPI Atkinson-cycle engine producing 149PS, the Gamma 1.6T-GDI engine boasting 177PS, and a highly efficient 1.0 T-GDI turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 120PS.

The lightweight body frame has been developed with 51.8% Advanced High Strength Steel to deliver class-leading levels of passive safety. Active safety features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), which uses the car’s front-facing camera and radar to detect imminent collision and avoid impact or minimize damage by braking autonomously. Three further systems also utilize the front-view camera to boost safety and convenience: Lane Keeping Assist (LKA); High Beam Assist (HBA); and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

Advanced infotainment and connectivity technology

The Kona boasts a suite of sophisticated technologies, paired with user-friendly functionality to ensure driver and passengers can stay informed and entertained.

The premium infotainment system offers various advanced connectivity features, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay where specified, with a 5-, 7- or 8-inch display (offered as standard or option dependent on the market).

A new Head-Up Display (HUD) projects a virtual image onto the clear glass panel mounted behind the instrument panel to enable the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road.

In a first for the segment, the Kona features smartphone wireless charging. Available as an option with all Kona models, customers simply place a compatible smartphone on the wireless charging interface, located in the center console storage, to easily recharge without the need for cables.

Kona Iron Man Special Edition

At the world premiere of the all-new Kona, Hyundai Motor unveiled a special edition that shares the name of Marvel’s heroic and powerful character – Iron Man.

With greater width (+40mm), the Kona Iron Man Special Edition presents a confident stance, while special LEDs are applied to the headlights, which sit beneath a matt gray hood, embellished with red and gold accents.

The Kona Iron Man Special Edition’s dynamic exterior is further complemented by a 19-inch directional wheel badged with an Iron Man Mask in the center, as well as off-road tires 716mm in outside diameter.

The special edition will go on display at Hyundai Motor’s Motorstudio in Seoul, Korea, for a month following its global reveal.

The Kona will go on sale in Korea later this month, followed by North America and Europe.

Cooper Tire 4×4 ambassador Xavi Foj honoured with Dakar Legend status

Twenty-seven-time Dakar Rally entrant and Cooper Tire 4×4 ambassador, Xavi Foj has become one of only six competitors to be honoured with Dakar Legend status. During his Dakar Rally career, Foj has secured two victories, nine podium finishes and has an impressive run of 13 consecutive finishes to his name.

Foj revels in the challenge of the Dakar, and especially in the T2 category which is a cross-country class for production vehicles. In the 2017 edition of the Dakar, Foj competed in a Toyota Land Cruiser 150 on Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tyres.

Commenting on his accolade, Xavi Foj said: “It’s a great honour for me to be one of the Dakar Legend drivers, among greats like Stephane Peterhansel and friends like Nani Roma. I would like to share this distinction with Dakar fans, with the team and with my sponsors, particularly with Cooper, as they have worked closely with me for many years.”

The Spaniard now joins Nani Roma, Stephane Peterhansel, Cyril Despres, Franco Picco and Yoshimasa Sugawara in receiving this Dakar Legend distinction.

MICHELIN ORGANIZES TYRE SAFETY CAMPAIGN ALONG WITH DUBAI MUNICIPALITY, TASJEEL & RTA

Michelin, the world’s tyre technology leader, along with Dubai Municipality, Road Transport Authority (RTA), Tasjeel and Central Trading Company, part of the Al Rostamani Group and importer of MICHELIN tyres for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, has renewed its commitment to making road transportation safer by organizing the Tyre Safety Campaign for passenger cars and trucks, from 14 to 18 May 2017.

Mohamed Aqel, General Manager Central Trading Company (CTC) said: “As part of this campaign, Michelin and our CTC technical and after sales service team carried out free tyre safety checks for more than 400 vehicles at different locations in Dubai, inspecting a total of more than 2000 tyres. In addition, participants also received expert advice and information about alignment, mounting, tyre pressure and maintenance from the expert team.”

“Michelin raises public awareness of road safety best practices wherever we operate,” said Daoud Helmi, Commercial Director for Michelin in the Gulf countries. “We are happy to bring the Tyre Safety Campaign along with the Dubai Municipality, Tasjeel and RTA to Dubai. With the fast economic progress that Dubai is witnessing, it becomes imperative to raise driver awareness for more responsible driving and safer roads.”

Ms. Deema Fouad Hussein, Traffic Awareness Department Senior Manager at RTA, added: “RTA is a committed partner in promoting motor vehicle and road safety initiatives. One of the critical factors for road safety is the condition of tyres, which is often overlooked by drivers. The Michelin campaign has enabled us to strengthen awareness about this important aspect of road safety.”

“We are pleased to be part of this initiative, as it is a direct and effective method to reach drivers and educate them about the importance of following road safety rules,” said Mr. Khamees Al Sweedi, Supervisor at Dubai Municipality. “Well-maintained tyres with the right pressure are critical for safety on our roads, and it is necessary to ensure tyres are checked regularly.”
